Gung Hee Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year.

We just got through our first signature project of the yearNight in

Chinatown Festival. A big mahalo to all the volunteers that came out that day make it such a success.

Our very own Patrick Taw headed up the manpower effort and managed itflawlessly. Because ofyour hard work, the event went off like clockwork with

housands of people enjoying the sights, sounds and food of Chinatown.

Speaking of food, HCJ once again ran a food booth selling such traditional foods as Jai (monks food) and GauChinese mochi). Special thanks to VPs Krystal Lee and Patrick Graham for making the booth a successful one.

Now that NIC is over, and we move into the Year of the Tiger, lets carry on the momentum generated last week

nto the rest of the new year. One of the most dynamic signs in the Chinese zodiac, Tigers are by nature fascinatingommanding, and exasperating. They are patient but short-tempered, calm but rebellious, petty but noble, fearsome

but affectionate, free spirits but fiercely territorial.

We can all learn from the Tiger when it comes to leadership. Be fearless, take risks and you will be rewarded.ith many more activities to come, there are ample opportunities to get involved and lead a project. Jaycees is you

unglelets hear you roar!

__________________________________________Year End ConventionYear End Convention is an exciting time. Recognition

given to not only the Chapter(s) as a whole, but also individual members & projects. Plus there are the SpeUp/Write Up competitions to decide wholl represent Hawaithe Natl Convention in New Orleans.

This convention kicked off the Saturday with the StWrite Up & Speak Up finals, your chapter fielding grcompetitors Patrick Taw, Krystal Lee & Ryan Ng. They w

up against some tough opponents and made us all proud by putting in their best efforts. Results? Keeading.

These early morning events were immediately followed by the Year End Awards interviews, wPresident Jon up for Watkins and Exec VP Ryan as our candidate for Armbruster. Both men were sestaggering out after their interrogations, begging for water to replenish all the sweat they lost.

The afternoon took a breather from competition for 2 excellent trainings. 1 by the men from SCORE, other an excellent training in Public Speaking by noted expert Pam Chambers. Rising Phoenix,

convention host, put together an excellent program to say the least.

The time everyone has their eyes on is always the Saturday evening banquet, when the results of year, and the days events, are finally announced. Your chapter was waiting with some impatience to fout how wed done.

One of the greatest highlights, though, was an honor wegave one of our own. It was at this banquet that Ms. Ana Chewas formally made a JCI Senator, a title she earned throughyears of service dedicated to HCJ. It was just like Ana to be

utterly stunned at being recognized for doing what she loved.Congratulations, Ana!

HCJs awards piled higher and higher until the finalannouncement came, giving the Top Spot of #1 Chapter for2009 to the Dragon! As for the other awards theres no way we could fit it all in here so take a look at st below. Itll make you proud to serve under the banner of this Great Chapter I guarantee it.

Night In Chinatown!___________________________________________As we all know, the REAL New Year for HCJ is

celebrated at Night In Chinatown. Its not just acelebration, though; its our time to go to work. Andthats exactly what we did.

Our Saturday morning started bright and earlywith team members arriving in Chinatown shortlyafter 5AM. Some to help get the streets ready,others to put together the HCJ Food Booth for a fullday of fundraising.

Krystal Lee took charge of our Booth effort thisyear while new member Patrick Taw took onrunning the manpower for the festival. They both

executed their roles with great distinction.

Our booth this year was right in the middle of theaction on the corner of Maunakea & Pauahi. Rightbehind the booth was the Chinatown Police Sub-Station, guaranteeing peace & protection.

President Ryans day got off to hectic start withthe Miss Chinatown Visitation. The Miss Chinatown

Court, President Ryan, Acting Honolulu Mayor KirkCaldwell plus photographers and helpers spent the

morning hours running from store to Society hall tostore.

Merchants and Societies received a plate oforanges from the ladies as a token of good luck andprosperity for the coming year. It was a privilege forHCJ to escort the Court and take part in thistradition.

2:30PM saw the general briefing on the NICParade at HQ to get us ready for this undertaking

This years NIC Parade was, in fact, the biggesever! Over 100 Units, including Lion Dance Club

local Societies, politicians (Election Year) plusPresident Ryan in a Corvette. All told the paradetook almost 2 hours to go by(!).

Patrick Taw & his manpower were a primereason for the success and smooth sailing of thisgreat parade. Mahalo to all who came out to help

Yet even the finish of this procession was not end of HCJ labors! Our members kept going, tak

on such duties as:

- Escorting Lion Dance troupes around Chinato

- Crowd control for the 2 stages- Overseeing the Festival manpower from HQ

At the same time your chapter fielded anotherequally dedicated labor force at the food booth. Fthe 2nd year in a row HCJ partnered with EasternFood Center to sell ono grindz to the crowds.

Chairman Krystal did a great job coordinating project to raise money for our future efforts.

Overall a great day (and night) that ended finalafter Midnight. Though it was a lot of fun, its a gothing its only once a year. We might not survive was more often.

Treasurer. I was born in Philadelphia but raised in Haw

I joined HCJ in October 2009 with my first project being

Adopt a School.

I had never painted a house before. I learned howdifficult it was and saw how the chapter really worked hato finish the job. I was attracted to the Jaycees becauseof the leadership development opportunities and a chanto meet new people and make new friends.

I graduated from Boston College with an accountingdegree and have been working as an auditor for the pas

few years. I will try my best to serve the chapter asTreasurer with timely reporting and friendly service.

I look forward to joining with you in participating in theupcoming projects and events. Please feel free to
