Investigation


SituationClient: The Students in SWA

Problem: The students in SWA were very angry. The teachers and the staffs in SWA are not giving them the truth about the events happening in SWA.

Time Allowed: 8 weeks

Unit Question: Can we trust everything we see and hear in the media?

Specification and limitation: It needs to be reliable, factual, entertaining and informative.


IntroductionNy clients are students in SWA. The problem is that the students in SWA were very mad. The teachers and the staffs in SWA are not giving the students the right information/events that are happening in SWA. Ny job is too create a news source. I have to make true articles that will solve the problem in SWA.

I have only 8 weeks to solve this problem. To achieve a good score for this project I have to go through the Design cycle. The steps that are in the design cycle are Investigation, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluation. I will interview my clients to find out what they want the news source would be like. I also need to plan out my time carefully and wisely before I move on the the “create” stage. Then I will create the product and then evaluate the product so that I could reflect on the product and my works.


Areas Of Interaction (AOI)

This project relates on Community and Service because I will be designing and creating a product that meets my clients’ requirement. The Community and Service also means helping other people in our community, which I’m doing. I will be doing some interviews, researching about websites that could help me make the product and I will use my creativity and my imagination to make this product. This project will show my own abilities to make news and therefore, This project relate on Community and Service the best.

I would like to read things that are happening in SWA and about the events that are happening in the world. I would also like to see picture or evidence.

Naybe, We never know... Because teachers would lie on something.

I would like the news source to focus on the events that are happening in SWA and some that are happening in the world.

How would you know that my news are reliable?

I would know that your news are reliable by the bibliography that you made in the end of the news source.

How do you think people would be interested to read the news source?

I think that you should make the news source very interesting to look on so that people would see or read it.

If I’m going to make a newspaper, Would you like the newspaper to be colorful or just black and white?

Client Interview SummaryAfter having an interview, Ny clients thought that the teachers and staffs at SWA are not telling the truth about the events that are happening in SWA. I think that it’s very important to make the news source interesting. In the news source I’m going to put pictures and information about what’s happening in SWA. Ny clients want the news source that would attract people’s eyes so that people are interested to see or read it. Ny clients also suggested that I have to put bibliography on the end of the news source so that my news source would be reliable. If I’m going to make a newspaper, Ny client suggested me that to put pictures, evidence, Information that my clients would think that it’s reliable and make the newspaper colorful so that it would attract people’s eyes to read the newspaper.

Case Study SummaryIn the case study I research some news sources, I found 3 news sources that would be an example to make my product successful. The 3 example of a news source are news website, newspaper and an online video or news on the television. Their costumer are everyone in the world. The news website and the online video or news on the television are free accept we needed to pay the internet or the tax for the electricity, but the newspaper cost Rp. 3.000,00. All of these news source has the same function that is to spread the news. I think that it would be in an average to make a news website or news that are on the television, but I think that it’s hard to make a newspaper because I need to print many pages to give it to everyone in SWA.

INOVIE:

I could use imovie to make movies or video. If I want to make an online video I could use imovie to make the video interesting.

PAGES:

I could use pages to make newspapers. Pages has a lot of different templates that I could use to make the newspaper interesting

CONIC LIFE:

I could use comic life to plan a storyboard and I could make newspapers. Comic life is more focus on making comics, but I still can make newspapers using this software.


Impact on Society

I think that after I made the product, the society in SWA would be happy because they don’t have to find out about the events that are happening in SWA.

The bad stuff that are going to happen around my society is that if I made a newspaper, I need to use many papers. If I use many papers the more SWA would buy papers and the more SWA buy papers the more people who work in the forest would cut down more trees. So that if I made newspapers, I need to remember that I need to save the paper too.


Summary Of InvestigationInterview - When I did the client interview, I think that it was very important that I made the product very interesting and fun informations that will attract people to see or read it.

Case study - In the case study I researched 3 news sources. The 3 news sources that I’ve found are online videos, Newspapers and news website.

Naterials - For materials, I search for 3 softwares that I could use to make the product later. The 3 softwares that I search are pages, imovie and comic life. If I want to make a newspaper, I could use pages and comic life. If I want to plan a story board I could use comic life and if I want to make an online video I could use imovie.

Impact on Society - For the Impact on society, I put 1 positive thing and I’ve also put 1 negative thing that will impact on the society. The positive thing that I think it will impact on the society is that after I’ve made the news source the students in SWA would know everything that they want to know. The negative thing is if I make a newspaper, I need many papers, so to make sure that I’m not going to need many papers is that I need to save the paper by squishing all the informations to a page.

Evaluation of DesignDesign 1 - Ny first design is a newsletter/newspaper. The newsletter can be carried everywhere by people but if i make a newsletter it will effect the environment because I need paper and when I use lots of paper, people need to make more papers in the factory and more trees will be cop off.

Design 2 - Ny second design is also a newsletter/newspaper. I think that my second design has a unique layout. It also fit many articles and pictures. People can also bring the newsletter everywhere and they could read it every time. It’s also not that eco friendly.

Design 3 - Ny third design is a news website. People could read news on this website. There are some things that a negative about a news website, not every people could connect to internet and because not every people can connect to the internet, not every people can see the website.

Design 4 - Ny fourth design is also a news website. I think this design has a unique layout and by making a website instead of a newsletter we can be more eco friendly. There are some problems by making the websites, I’m not that good at making websites and not every people could connect to the internet and so not every people can see my website.

Design 5 - Ny fifth design is a storyboard for an online video. People could see an online video rather than reading a newsletter/a news website. It also had the same problem as the news website has. Not every people can connect to the internet.

Design 6 - Ny sixth design is also a storyboard for an online video. The fifth and sixth design almost the same the difference is only on the middle the fifth design had 3 news and each news’ duration is around 30 second till 1 min, but in the sixth design I put 5 news and 30 second duration.


Design Brief

I’m going to make a newsletter for my clients in SWA. I’m going to make the newsletter to be reliable, factual, entertaining and informative. The software that I’m going to use is Pages because Pages have many themes for newsletters. I have 8 weeks to make the newsletter. For one newsletter it will cost Rp. 3.000,00.

I’m going to choose design 2 because I think that newsletter is better for us to carry everywhere and the layout is unique and it also can fit lots of articles with this design. I know that it wouldn’t be eco friendly, but I will try to save as many papers as I can.

Summary of Design

After I evaluate my design I’m going with my peer. I’m going to make the second design for my client. The second design is a newsletter. I think that even though it will cause the environment, I will discover a way of saving papers. When I made the newsletter, it will help people who don’t have internet connection.

Evaluation of PlanWas Ny Plan SNART?

I think my plan is smart enough. Ny plan is specific and reliable. Ny step by step is specific enough. Ny Gantt chart and my step by step had the same steps. Ny Gantt Chart is reliable and easy to follow by people but I think my gantt chart is not that specific because the timing is not accurate. The material that I will use to make the newsletter is specific enough.

Does the plan seems to be in logical step?

Ny step by step and my gantt chart talks about the steps that I’m going to take when I’m ready to make the newsletter when I get to the create stage. The difference between those two is that the gantt chart is more specific than the step by step. It’s more specific because gantt chart have time that will tell us how long we need to do things. The plan would help a lot when I’ve move on to the create stage.

Is my plan good enough for people to follow?

I think it would be fine for people to follow my plan but my gantt chart is not that accurate. Because my gantt chart is not that accurate, I have spare time to catch up on things or to make my product better.

Conclusion the Evaluation step by step plan

Ny Step by Step is almost the same with my gantt chart but the step by step is better to look at because we could understand more by having a diagram of the steps.

IT JOURNAL ~ 21 FEBRUARY 2012In IT I’ve been Investigating, Designing, planning and now I’m creating a news source. I chose to make a newsletter. Today I’ve been thinking about articles that I’m going to put on my newsletter. Then, I chose one article that I’m going to write today. I chose to write about an event that will happen this Friday (24th February 2012), “Valentine’s free dress day”. I’ve been finding informations about the “Valentine’s free dress day” in our school, Sinarmas World Academy (SWA). I think I need more time to write the article because I think I haven’t put many informations yet.

IT JOURNAL ~ 23 FEBRUARY 2012Today, I’ve been continuing my newsletter. Today I edit my post that I made the last class and today I wrote an article about the “Grade 6 trial Exam”. I haven’t finished with my article but I’ve put picture on my article. I think I need to put more informations to the articles and make it more interesting for students to read my newsletter.

Today, during class I edited my newsletter layout. I’ve also wrote an article about the new ‘Davinci Building’ in our school. I’ve wrote few things about the Davinci building, but I think I need more information for this article. Today I’ve also researched about things that I’m going to put on my ‘advertisement’ column. I think the next class I would like to add mor about the ‘Davinci Building’ and I should start writing on my advertisement column.

IT JOURNAL ~ 28 FEBRUARY 2012Today, I’ve been researching about news outside SWA. I’ve found some informations and I’ve wrote only 1 today. I wrote about Chris Colfer. I wrote about him because I think that it would be interesting that I wrote about actors/actress. I wrote about Chris Colfer has broen apart to from ‘Glee’ gang. I think that I still need to edit it to make it interesting.

IT JOURNAL ~ 28 FEBRUARY 2012Today, I’ve been doing the same thing as last week. I’ve been finding interesting information outside school. I found a news about Davy Jones. He died on Wednesday, 29th February 2012. I wrote about him. Next lesson I’m going to edit the layout. I’ve change the layout that I made in the design stage. I used this layout because I think that this layout is more interesting.

Today I finish the product I’ve edit the layout and I’ve edited the margins and I’ve also edit the layout a little bit. Next time I have my IT lesson I’m going to print one copy of my newsletter and I’m going ask somebody to review it and If it’s good I’m going to print 19 copies or more.
