DATES FOR YOUR DIARY - DON’T MISS OUT!

FROM THE PRINCIPAL Sixth Form Open Evening We had another very busy and enjoyable Sixth Form Open evening last Thursday. Our students once again did us proud and we received some fabulous feedback on our Sixth Form provision. It was good to see the Sixth Form Centre looking so smart and the new Study Centre certainly was a big hit with parents and students! As you may know we had an 11% increase in the number of students staying on into our Sixth Form last year and all signs are that we will have very healthy numbers next September! DofE Project Presentations Evening Many thanks to Mrs Goggin and the DofE team for an excellent evening last Monday. A wide range of interesting group presentations made this a very enjoyable event for staff and parents. It is great to see such good numbers completing the Silver Award and we hope many will go on to the Gold Award next year. Year 11 Achievement Conference Thank you to Mrs Everson and her team for the seamless organisation of the Year 11 Achievement Conference this week. It was great to see our students working with their mentors and putting plans in place to realise their ambitions. Attendance A reminder that the weekly emails regarding attendance will be circulated to all parents as part of our drive to ensure students attend as regularly as possible to maximise learning. Attendance Awards Following parental and student feedback we are making the following changes to our Attendance Awards. This change will appear on the first reports in December.

Last year the Student Curriculum Committee lobbied for a Year 11 Study Room. They wanted a space that was just for Year 11 students and a space that housed study guides and past papers to support them with their revision. We thought this was a brilliant idea and we are delighted to tell you that we have created a space for them and the new Year 11 Study Room was launched last week!

The space itself is a lovely room next door to our Library. There is a lot of space in the room and we have organised it so that students can work independently if they wish but we have also created some collaborative working space too as we know that revising with friends can be really beneficial. In the coming weeks, we are having some whiteboards installed so that students are able to tackle problems and questions on the boards. We think that this will be a positive addition to the room as will the motivational posters that are in there. Heads of Department have provided Revision Guides, Text books and other resources that they felt would support students with their revision and we have also included copies of PiXL Independence Booklets and past papers as a further aid. We know that those students who prepare early and those students who utilise all of the support available to them are the ones

who make the most progress in their exams so I am thrilled that so many students are already using it. Please do encourage your child to use this room at lunchtime, when it is supervised, so that they can get ahead with their revision. Attendance to the room is being monitored and Mr Ruffles will be using this to support students with their Passport to the Prom.

Further to this, it would be a great idea to get your child to begin working on a revision timetable in preparation for the Mock Exams in November and more importantly the main exams in the Summer. As we discussed on the Revision evening in the Summer term, www.getrevising.co.uk is a great site to support you with this.

To celebrate the European Day of Languages, Year 7 students were tasked with creating Acrostic poems using the word “languages”. We asked students to be creative and express what languages meant to them. The results were overwhelming. It was very difficult to select the best three per class and even more so to select the best three overall. That’s why we chose four! Very well done to all students for their efforts and creativity and huge congratulations to our winners who will receive 15, 10 and 5 praise points respectively.
