Governor Mitch Daniels, who signed an executive order creating WGU Indiana last June, praised the university not only for making an impact on the lives of its more than 1,100 students, but also for strengthening the state's economy by creating meaningful jobs for Hoosiers. "We created WGU Indiana to fill the clear and most challenging gap remaining in our state's family of higher education opportunities," said Daniels. "The continued growth of WGU Indiana's faculty and staff proves that this new option in higher education is one that is needed and is making a difference in the lives of our citizens." WGU Indiana's 100th employee , Terri Newkirk of Indianapolis will serve as a faculty mentor to students pursuing an MBA within WGU Indiana's College of Business. "I see this as an opportunity to directly help people who are trying to improve their lives," said Newkirk. "The WGU Indiana model is designed to help working adults succeed in completing their education, which is what attracted me to this wonderful institution." WGU Indiana Chancellor Allison Barber says two of WGU Indiana's primary objectives are to educate Hoosiers and to create a positive impact on the state's economy. "There is so much opportunity here in Indiana as the demand for a flexible, affordable, and quality college education continues to rise," said Barber. "With 730,000 Hoosiers who have some college experience but haven't completed their degree, we're off to a great start, but we still have a long way to go." "More than 75 percent of WGU Indiana faculty members have a master's level degree or higher in their career field, and a majority of our enrollment counselors have extensive backgrounds in higher education," said Barber. "On top of that, our model is completely scalable, meaning the more students we have, the more employees we will hire." WGU Indiana offers more than 50 online, competency-based degree programs in high-demand career fields including business, information technology, teacher education and health professions, including nursing. Each WGU Indiana student is partnered with a mentor, who provides one-on-one coaching, guidance and support from enrollment through graduation. Tuition is a flat rate of $2,890 per six-month term, not per credit hour or semester. Students can take as many courses as they can complete during the term.
