NewsNGCOA Canada

You could hear them starting to use theterm ‘dude’ more often every passingday…NGCOA Canada members and theirstaff took a break this February from thecold Canadian winter to head to the sunnySan Diego region of California.

The historic La Valencia Hotel provideda unique backdrop for this year’s NGCOACanada Travel Club. Affectionately knownas “The Pink Lady”, La Valencia Hotel – a landmark for over 80 years in the spectacular community of La Jolla – isundoubtedly a class act with ambience andgrandeur reminiscent of the 30’s & 40’s.The hotel is perched atop the scenic cliffsabove La Jolla Cove where guests enjoyedan incredible view from almost every angle– including the nearby harbour seals sunning on the beach.

Beyond beach walks and upscaleshopping in the trendy village, Travel Clubmembers experienced exceptional golf ateach of three host courses: Steele Canyon- a challenging start; Mt Woodson - arugged, unique layout; and Torrey Pines -the highlight event was a memorable expe-rience, replete with spectacular oceanviews and hang gliders overhead! Lessthan ideal conditions did not discouragethe “Crazy Canucks” who braved thesheets of rain for a few holes, only to havethe sun shine for the remainder of the day.

With golf came the added benefit of education, as each host facility providedTravel Club members with a personal wel-come along with a brief introduction andhistory of their course. Of particularinterest was learning the substantialpreparations required to host the 2008 USOpen at Torrey Pines.

The few days Travel Club membersspent together reconfirmed how valuablethis event really is – a unique opportunity

for operators to solidify existing relationshipsand develop new ones, while learning abouteach other’s business challenges and successes – what better way to spend qualitytime with your peers!! Thank you to eachand every one who made the event such a

success and we hope allNGCOA Canada members

will consider joiningthe Travel Club in

late February, 2008!
