‘Thought Lab’ The ‘Thought Lab’ a pilot project of The NorthCap University in collaboration with the Education Wing of RERF (a sister organization of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalay) was inaugurated on 20 April 2018. NCU is the first university in Northern India to set up a ‘Thought Lab’ a novel concept for stress management and for creating pure, positive and creative thoughts in individuals. It is a unique project aimed to harness the hidden and still untapped inner power of extra-ordinary resource i.e. the Mind of an individual. The University takes pride in being one of the pioneer institutions in Delhi/NCR to offer this new concept for the benefit of its students. This facility is bound to act as catalyst for development of a robust mind to enable students sustain through difficult times.

The event commenced with the opening of the Thought Lab was inaugurated by Sister BK Asha, Director, OmShanti Retreat Centre, Shri BK Mrutyunjaya, President Value Education Programs Brahma Kumaris, RERF and Prof. Prem Vrat, Pro-Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra, Vice-Chancellor, NCU. The Thought Lab comprises of meditation, audio-visual aids, photo gallery, counselling, activities corner, research and spiritual library.

The inaugural programme at the auditorium started with a dance performance by a young Brahma Kumari follower. Dr Aditi Singhal, Memory Trainer and Guinness World Record Holder in Maths, delivered a talk on ‘Enlightening Mind and Enhancing Memory Power’. By involving the audience she showed that concentration is most important to memorize anything. Law of Association, Law of Imagination and Law of Ridiculous (AIR) enhance memory and recall. Sister BK Sudesh, National Promotional Coordinator in Value Education and Spirituality explained types of thoughts, the thought process and how Rajyoga meditation heals mentally, socially, spiritually and physically. Sister Supriya read out Dadiji’s message about the importance of the Thought Lab for self-empowerment and creative thinking. Sister BK Asha pointed out that meditation is a gift of India to the rest of the world. She motivated the youth to learn and experience the magic of meditation at the Thought Lab as it would lead to a positive attitude for learning, innovative thinking and elevated thinking

which is ‘forgive and forget’. Shri BK Mrutyunjaya said that the Thought Lab would treat the pollution of the mind, give clarity of mind, help overcome various kinds of fears and lead to an anger free society.

Speaking at the occasion Prof. Prem Vrat said that attitude is the critical factor for enhancing employability. A positive attitude shows you're willing to put effort into your work, and will bring a positive presence to your workplace and ‘learning to learn’ is the main attitude to achieve success. GATE 2018

Success Story

I, Akshay Kumar, completed my BTech in Computer Science and Engineering from The NorthCap University in 2017 with CGPA 9.57. I have secured AIR 94 in Gate 2018 and AIR 8 in ISRO written exam Dec-2017. One of the biggest dilemmas that I had faced during my college days was whether to sit for campus placement or to prepare for GATE. I chose to prepare for GATE and voluntarily debarred myself from placement activities because I thought even if I get selected I will not be able to give my 100% to the company.

SOL invited Prof. Anatole Boute, a Belgian national from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to deliver a talk on the topic 'Clean Energy Law and the International Economic Regime' on 10 April 2018. He is an expert in the field of Energy, Environmental and Investment Law and a recipient of the prestigious Willoughby Prize.

In his lecture, Prof. Boute emphasized on making the world an energy secure place by using clean and green sources of energy. However, he also cautioned about the fact that consumers would prefer cheaper sources of energy which are not safe for the environment over clean sources of energy because it tends to be expensive. He discussed the need to have a carbon-free environment. Thermal power as a source of energy includes coal as the main ingredient and is very harmful to the environment but 80% of India is dependent on coal as a source of energy and this dependence is increasing with time.

Prof. Boute shared the evolution of Shale Gas and how USA utilized this opportunity and became an energy secure nation. He explained the policies being taken up by different countries to promote the use of clean energy. He emphasized on the need to use more clean energy to have a sustainable environment and make our country de-carbonised. [SOL2018G004]
