Congratulations to Dr Tran Quang Huy to become a member of Global Young Academy (GYA). “Since 2013, when my term as a founding member of GYA nearly came to an end, I already had a strong desire to see another Vietnamese member of GYA. That was also one of my reasons to establish VYA. GYA is a very young organisation; it is naturally easier for scholars from developed countries to meet GYA’s requirements than the ones from developing countries. Vietnamese scholars have applied to become a GYA member years after years, none got elected. I became very determined to raise awareness among the selection panel, that there is a need to have better presentation of scholars from developing countries. And I am proud and very delighted that Dr TQ Huy was elected as a GYA member. This is of course due to his research excellence, perseverance, commitment and devotion to the serve as a voice of Vietnamese young scholars. It is a great honour, there were 263 applicants from 83 countries, and only 39 was elected this year. This is great news for not only VYA but also for other developing countries. Dr TQ Huy will serve the GYA selection committee, so that he can actively contribute to and influence work of GYA. He will also join a GYA Working Group to support the development and the work of National Young Academy in all countries.” Prof. NTK Thanh. Congratulations to two members of VYA Advisory board to receive the Kovalevskaya 2016 award. Kovalevskaya Fund, named after the Russian mathematician Sofia V. Kovalevskaya, is to encourage female scientists in developing countries. Associate Professor Nguyen Phuong Tung and Associate Professor Tran Kim Anh received the award with three others for their work in nanoscale science and technology. Issue #6, March 2017 (Left: Assoc.
