“Knowledge is having the right answer, intelligence is asking the

right question.”

Blocks provide wonderful opportunities for children to learn

how shapes fit together, develop science concepts, and extend

their imagination and creativity. These experiences are great for

developing fine motor skills, social and linguistic skills. Little

Builders of the kindergarten were deeply engaged in building

rockets, towers, and motor cars with the blocks. It was a zealous

participation with great gaga, which was evident from their stun-

ning models.

“A fruit salad is delicious precisely because each fruit maintains its own flavour.”

Fruits are nature‟s marvelous gift to the humankind, indeed, they are life-enhancing medi-

cines packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and many phytonutrients to instigate

healthy eating habits from the early age. Kindergarten has organized Fruit Salad Day. Kids

had great fun learning the vocabulary, names, color and the nutritious importance of the

fruits. Kids were encouraged to share the fruits with their friends to emphasize the value of

sharing. We appreciate parent‟s creativity and support for making it a fruitful event.

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy!

Yellow Submarine is an exciting indoor adventure play area for children located in Saar.

BIS Kids are blessed to be a part of the trip as planned and organised by Pre-Primary

teachers. The field trip to Yellow submarine was a day filled with fun, games and exulta-

tion for the KG II children. The frisky laughter and gleeful spirit was highly infectious -

the colours and glory of childhood in full bloom!

Physical activity in children is also a crucial component in strengthening mental agility

and dexterity. A giant three-level play frame, which includes slides, ball pools, ball can-

nons, and a climbing wall, gives the children the opportunity to run, climb, slide, and

jump.

Children were super enthusiastic to find so many giant blocks around them and started to

build up houses, robots, and cars in the middle of the play area. Our blooming buds under-

went thoroughly through an activity cum learning session on gross motor skills, team

building, social skills and learning to co-exist as a team.

“Commit to be fit”

“One can be said to be in a perfect state of health when one is physically fit, mentally calm

and emotionally steady", says Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. In order to promote adequate flexibility,

strength, good posture and better self-esteem for kids, the kindergarten at BIS conducted Fit-

ness Mantra activity. It was a pleasure watching the kids enthusiastically jumping, bending,

twisting and stretching their body.

However, such an initiative of the teachers has promoted an implicit development in kids

which is not only benefiting the ongoing physical activity, but also helps in bonding, sociali-

zation, and pro-social development in a fun way. This subsequently creates the structure and

momentum in children from the tender age which is needed to sustain a lifetime physical fit-

ness.

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light

whose love shows us the way.”

Yes, a very true statement. The spirit of celebrating “Father‟s Day” was revitalized at BIS.

A special assembly was presented on 12th June by Grade IV Cedar under the guidance of

Ms. Augustina.

The students presented an interesting skit which highlighted children‟s responsibilities such

as to obey, respect and look after their father, who gives their best to take care of their

needs. The underlying value that was emphasized was the undying love of the parents to-

wards their children. Teachers as well as the students were reminded of their beautiful

memories and could paint their canvas of life.

The skit was followed by a song as a tribute to the fathers and was concluded by the school

pledge. Principal Dr Heena Rachh applauded the efforts of the teacher and the students.

She highlighted that children are intended to be a blessing to their parents and must listen

to their godly counsel.

“Yoga is the journey of the self, to the self and through the self”

It was December 11 that the UN General Assembly declared June 21st

as the Interna-

tional Yoga Day. A call for such an International Day was initiated and proposed by In-

dia’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.

Yoga in Sanskrit embodies Union. This union is more than just the union of mind and

body, it signifies union as in inclusion that spans cultures, ethnicities, age groups and

generations, hearts and minds, and unites external influences with internal transfor-

mation.

The young yogis & yoginis of Grade III Kilimanjaro presented a special assembly on

the theme “International Yoga Day” at BIS on 21st June under the effective and spe-

cial guidance of their class teacher Ms. Vijayalakshmi. The assembly started with the

Bahrain National anthem, prayer song and recitation of the Holy Quran. To attract the

attention of the audience, students shared some interesting facts about yoga, demon-

strated few Asanas and presented a beautiful song on the theme which was an eye

opener not only for the children but also for the teachers.

Glimpses of parents’ feedback and views on “YOGA AT BIS” were showcased

through a video and the event mesmerised the audience.

Finally the assembly came to an end with the take home message addressed by Prin-

cipal Dr Heena Rachh -“Yoga offers a simple, accessible and inclusive means to pro-

mote physical and spiritual health and well-being. It promotes respect for one’s fellow

human beings and for the planet we share. And yoga does not discriminate; all peo-

ple can practice, regardless of their religion, relative strength, age or ability.”

Man is both a creater and moulder of his environment. Through the rapid acceleration of

science and technology, man has acquired the power to transform his environment in

countless ways and on an unprecedented scale.

World Environment Day provides us with an opportunity to broaden the basis for an en-

lightened opinion and responsible conduct by individuals, enterprises and communities in

preserving and enhancing the environment. World Environment Day is an occasion to

think how we are a part of nature and how intimately and unequivocally we depend on it

for survival. It is being celebrated worldwide by the people aiming to protect the unique

and life nurturing nature on 5th June.

BIS celebrated this day by conducting special assembly under the guidance of Ms. Mah-

vish. The concept behind the evolution of this day and its importance was highlighted in a

very unique and distinctive way. The assembly reminded us of our past, shared the present

day situation and reminded us of our future too.

The earth of 1970 was depicted as lush green loaded with vegetation and there was peace

and tranquillity at everyone‟s face. Then the earth of 2017 was exposed which is partially

green and black. It illustrated the existing condition of the environment and society which

revealed different kinds of pollution, garbage, filth and dirt all over.

Students took an oath of saving nature. In the end, Principal Dr Heena Rachh applauded

the efforts of children and the teacher and shared different ways to protect the environ-

ment. She said that a little contribution will make a great difference in reshaping our future

for a healthier life.

“Today you lead the school; Tomorrow your students will lead the world.”

“Education then and Education now, school days then and school days now”, a great differ-

ence can be easily identified. From past to now, learning and diverging education have al-

ways been one of the necessary demands of an individual. Learning helps us to approach

with new knowledge, new technologies thus it has deep effect on our lives. Let‟s look all

over how learning has been changed overtime.

Students of Grade V Leo portrayed this beautiful theme through a short film directed and

produced by their class in-charge Mr. Ruban. The film, 'Schools then and now' and its cast

successfully expressed the message as planned. The film came out exceptionally well. The

film basically depicted the versions of schools then and now. It compared and contrasted

the major changes that have been adopted into the schools system. Basically it conveyed

the changes in the way the kids, teachers, parents, and the schools have transfigured over

the years. Kids understood that they are now in a very special and caring environment un-

like before. It was a new experience for most as seeing our kids performing as actors on a

screen- like featuring in a short film.

A special video song was broadcast which showed the hard work of BIS teachers in mould-

ing the kids and shaping their artistry.

Principal Dr. Heena Rachh acknowledged the hard work of students as well as their class

teacher Mr. Ruban. She addressed the audience with a special message on how this field of

education has drastically changed from past to present and how this changing scenario has

created a deep impact on school going children. In fact she made students aware that they

should follow freedom but with discipline.

So the assembly came to an end with this beautiful message- “Through discipline comes

freedom.”

In order to innovate and develop talent of the students and to raise awareness about the various

burning issues of our society, Nukkad Natak Inter House competition was held in BIS. The event

was judged by special guests- Ms Naushara Mohammad, Ms Neelaka Shrotre and Ms Anju Mathur

along with BIS Director Ms. Ritu Verma and Principal Dr Heena Rachh. All the houses participated

with full vigor and energy. The judges were stunned and delighted to see the children spreading

awareness on the social issues like Anti Corruption, Safe Environment, Religious Conflict and Im-

portance of Education..

The idea and the message were conveyed beautifully in a humorous and meaningful way. The dra-

matic act created awareness among the audience. The students were dressed according to the theme

and carried placards and posters to share their views.

The audience and judges were mesmerized as students could lend expression to serious causes in

such a captivating way with the medium of drama.

Each child has a potential to bloom. BIS provides proper nutrients and the environment for

the seed to reach its full potential. Participation in co-curricular activities provides the stu-

dents a platform to showcase their talents.

Bahrain Indian School (BIS) in collaboration with the ICAB Toastmasters Club success-

fully conducted for its students an eight weeks‟ Youth Leadership Program of Toastmasters

International. The Grand Finale for the 'Youth Leadership Program (YLP)' was held on 9th

June 2017 at the BIS campus. Youth Leadership Program- an interactive session which

helps young pupils to build their communication and leadership skills and guide them to

These eight weeks session proved to be a stepping stone in their lives which will surely go

a long way in shaping their personality. More than 16 young students in the age-group of

12 to 15 years were benefitted from this program. The YLP Finale was attended by these

young pupils along with their parents. During the Finale of the program the young leaders

demonstrated their communication and leadership skills that they acquired during the YLP

Program. All the participants were presented with the certificates of participation in the

YLP program.

Open House was held at BIS on 10th June in order to discuss the child‟s progress and all

round development. The session brought parents closer to teachers, as they could discuss

how or what can lead to the improvement in the child‟s academic result. Since parents and

teachers are able to communicate and share their thoughts on the right upbringing of a child,

the discussion gave a prominent depiction of the child‟s attitude, discipline levels as well as

his/ her participation in classroom activities.

According to the research, exchange of ideas and communication in Parents Teachers Meet

surely guide both teachers and parents to understand the child better, know their proficiency

and encourage them accordingly.

The Grand Finale of Solo Singing competition for the students of Grade I was conducted

on 12th June in BIS. The participants put forth their enthralling performance. The sweet

voices and well trained chords almost made the audience visualize the talents of the bud-

ding stars. The popular songs like „You are my Sunshine‟, „Meri Ma‟ etc with the karaoke

added the charm for the competition. The occasion was graced by the esteem presence of

our Principal Dr Heena Rachh. Each house showed their command over voice modulation,

sur, rhythm and other important aspects of singing. All the houses were eager to emerge as

victorious champions. The rhythm and the beats of the young singers resonated around the

campus and responses from the audience were overwhelming. It helped in boosting the

morale of the students and it also helped in giving them the inner urge to excel in the up-

“Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn”

Current affairs form an important and inevitable part of our lives. All the actions that have

taken place and the important decisions made around us get recorded in the current affairs

section under the category of general knowledge questions. Unlike earlier times when ex-

ams were confined to the prescribed syllabus, in present times, general knowledge covers a

major portion of the entrance exams and are therefore a gateway to many prestigious ca-

reers. To emphasize this concept, BIS organised an Inter House competition on 22nd June

hosted by Ms.Greetina and Ms.Shyamala. The students enthusiastically participated in all

the four rounds. The highlight was the jigsaw puzzle round which reminded us that General

knowledge cannot be attained overnight.

Principal Dr.Heena Racch congratulated the winners and appreciated all the house masters

and tutors for all their efforts in training and guiding the children.

under the guidance of Ms.Vijayalakshmi, Ms Blessy and Mr Ruban on 8th June. Students

interacted with the kids of RIA school and assisted the tutors in conducting games on the

eve of Ramadan Kareem. They actively interacted with the physiotherapists and asked

many questions on relevance of physiotherapy for special kids. RIA Students were excited

and filled with joy, as they received hand-made greeting cards from BIS young scholars.

The founder of RIA was glad and felt elated at this visit and later complimented the BIS

students for their courage and generosity. He also exclaimed with pride that the young

scholars of BIS should bear the badge of warriors!

This visit threw light on students in learning the value of compassion, empathy and accept-

ing the differences and disabilities.

The caretakers/ helpers play an important role in the school. They always help, ensure and

create a healthy environment for the students. They associate closely with each and every

child and treat them equally with utmost care. Since they are giving the great care towards

the pupils, it‟s also our responsibility to take care of their physical and mental well being.

What is the best way to it?

“Yoga”. It is a practice of stabilizing mind and body according to the historical origins in

ancient Indian philosophy. It is used for maintaining good health. The various styles of yoga

typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation and relaxation.

BIS organised a workshop on account of International Yoga Day. The workshop was con-

ducted by Dr. V.Vijayalakshmi.

The session started with the demonstration and by explaining the numerous health benefits

of loosening exercises, the steps of Surya Namaskar and its benefits which one can practice

in their daily life. A few asanas like Brahmari and the deep breathing techniques were also

taught. The session ended with the teaching of guided imaginary meditation where they

were taught how to relax the mind and to get rid of the stress and tensions created by our

daily chores.

will connect them with others around the world. In this respect, students of Grade V were

taken to Bahrain National Museum. The country's most popular attraction, the National

Museum is an outstanding introduction to Bahrain's history. The Bahrain National Museum

is the crowning achievement of the Kingdom of Bahrain‟s ongoing efforts to preserve the

nation‟s heritage and history.

This was an educational trip (related to Social Science) conducted to make children aware

At last the holidays you expect are here. You deserve this time!!!

Summer vacation is about to begin and students will have ample time during these few

months to enjoy their vacation by indulging into their favourite outdoor sports, playing video

games, or going for a holiday trip. Along with these activities, students could still do some-

thing wherein they can hone their existing skills or develop a new one.

Parents can play an important role in understanding what their children would be interested

in, and accordingly plan their summer vacation.

“Have a great time ahead, make your trip as you expect so you can especially take advantage

of every moment”.
