12th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) was held in Jakarta

Commerce Minister Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan visited Jakarta to attend the 12th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Jakarta Convention Center held on 2nd to 4th August, 2016. The Minister of Commerce represented Pakistan at the WIEF 2016 on behalf of Prime Minister of Pakistan. The Forum was opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan addressed the Forum on Pakistan achievements and explained on trade liberalisation among the Muslim countries. The three-days Forum in Jakarta focused on Islamic finance and Muslim-friendly tourism. Leaders, representatives, and also business people from over 100 countries attended the Forum.

Bilateral Meeting between Pakistan Commerce Minister and Indonesian Trade Minister

Commerce Minister Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan called on Indonesian Trade Minister Mr. Enggartiasto Lukita on 2nd August 2016 to discuss various issues related to bilateral trade. Engr. Khurram Dastagir Khan visited Jakarta to represent Pakistan in 12th World Islamic Economic Forum.

Ambassador Aqil Nadeem, who is also accredited to Timor Leste, presented his Credentials to Timor Leste’s President Taur Matan Ruak on 27th September 2016 in Dili. During the visit, Ambassador met number of officials and political figures.

Independence Day of Pakistan Celebration

The Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm in Embassy of Pakistan Jakarta on 14th August 2016. Large number of Pakistanis along with families participated in celebrations. Ambassador Aqil Nadeem started the celebration by hoisting the National flag.

It was followed by reading messages of the President and Prime Minister. In his speech, Ambassador apprised participants about bilateral relations with Indonesia and economic progress made in the country in last one year. Special prayers were offered for the prosperity and well being of the homeland.

Briefing for ASEAN Ambassadors

A briefing was held in the Embassy of Pakistan, Jakarta for ASEAN Deputy Secretary General and Permanent Representatives of ASEAN members based in Jakarta. A booklet titled "Pakistan ASEAN Relations” (An Overview) was also launched on the occasion. This meeting was held in order to strengthen the relations between Pakistan and the ASEAN.

Kashmir Black Day Kashmir Solidarity Forum and the

Embassy of Pakistan observed the Kashmir Black Day on 27th July 2016 in solidarity with people of Jammu and Kashmir. A large number of Indonesian national, members of Pakistani community and human rights organizations attended the seminar held at the Embassy of Pakistan. Mr. Ashraf Ali, Member of Jakarta Assembly (DPRD), Dr. Zahir Khan, Chairman, Kashmir Solidarity Forum and Ambassador Aqil Nadeem addressed the audience. Ambassador Aqil Nadeem in his speech highlighted ongoing human rights violation in Indian occupied Kahsmir. He also emphasized the Indonesians people to help the people in Kashmir in voicing their concerns against the Indian military occupation.

Fifth Ristek Dikti-Kalbe Science Award 2016

Prof. Dr. Ata-Ur-Rahman, a renowned scientist and former Minister of Education of Pakistan visited Jakarta as the Chief Guest at the Fifth Ristek Dikti-Kalbe Science Award 2016. He attended, along with Ambassador Aqil Nadeem, a dinner in his honour by President Director of PT Kalbe Farma.

Joint Review Meeting of Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement

A Joint Review Meeting for Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement was held on 15th August in Jakarta. The Pakistani delegation was headed by Ambassador Aqil Nadeem and the Chief Negotiator Mr. Taimur Tajammal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan.

The Indonesian delegation was headed by Mr. Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Director of Bilateral Negotiation, Ministry of Trade. The two days meeting undertook comprehensive review of the Agreement and looked at ways to further expand bilateral trade which currently stands at $ 2.1 billion.

Pakistani-Indonesian Eid-ul-Fitr Gathering

A gathering of ethnic Indonesian of Pakistani origin was held in Jakarta to celebrate Eid ul Fitr. The speakers included, Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia, Mohammad Aqil Nadeem, Mr. Ashraf Ali, member of Jakarta Assembly (DPRD) and Dr. Zahir Khan, an academician and noted activist. While congratulating participants, speakers also used the occasion to express concerns over the ongoing human rights violations in Kashmir. They demanded implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions to allow Kashmiris to exercise the right of self determination. Ambassador Aqil Nadeem in his remarks also congratulated community on collectively celebrating Eid ul Fitr and thanked speakers for expressing their concerns on human rights violations in Kashmir.

Tree Planting

This event was aimed to maintain Botanical Gardens in Indonesia as part of an effort for conserving the environment.

The Ambassador of Pakistan, Mohammad Aqil Nadeem joined former President, Megawati Soekarnoputri to plant trees in Karya Botanical Garden, in Bali on 6th – 7th August 2016.

Independence Day of Indonesia

Republic of Indonesia celebrated its 71st Independence Day on 17th August 2016. The Ambassador of Pakistan attended the celebrations at the Presidential Palace. President Joko Widodo also held dinner for dignitaries and diplomatic corps on the occasion.

D-8 Meeting of Consular Authorities

The 2nd Meeting of Consular Authorities of D-8 countries was held in Jakarta (24-25 August 2016). Pakistan delegation was represented by Deputy Head of Mission, Syed Zahid Raza and Head of Chancery, Ali Mehmood.The meeting aimed at simplification of business visa procedures among the D-8 members countries.

Postponement of Execution of Pakistani National Zulfiqar Ali

With Embassy’s effort in approaching Ministers, high officials, politicians, and human rights activists, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali got a last minute postponement of his death penalty. The Embassy has been pursuing the case with Indonesian Government that Mr. Zulfiqar Ali did not get a fair trial. The Embassy’s officer also visited Mr. Zulfiqar Ali after the postponement of the execution.

Heritage Society

An event was arranged at Ambassador of Pakistan's Residence in collaboration with Indonesia Heritage Society about preserving Indonesian architectural heritage. Large number of Indonesian dignitaries, diplomatic community, and member of Women International Club attended the program held on 22nd September 2016.
