2019 Prep Enrolments

Book Week Parade - Tuesday 4th September

With a continued pattern of increasing student enrol-ments, we are keen to ensure that all our current fami-lies have students enrolled for 2019 in order to assist with planning and to keep all class sizes as small as possible.

We are aiming to keep our Prep classes to below twenty, in order to give children the best possible start to their education. Therefore it is highly important for us to have an idea as to how many students may be enrolling at our school for next year.

If you know of a neighbour or a relative who has a child that turns five before the 30th April 2019, please ask them to come to the office for an enrolment form.

Parents are asked to bring a Birth certificate or Visa into the school for proof of age, along with an Im-munisation History Statement from Medicare in or-der to enrol their child at our school.

Early enrolment also ensures children are included in our Prep Transition Program which begins in Term Four.

The dates for this program have now been released and we ask that you mark these dates on your calen-

dar. It is important that our 2019 Prep students attend as it sets the tone for a more comfortable start in 2019. Stu-dents will become aware of the Prep rooms and will have met the Prep teachers - easing some first day anx-ieties.

For all Preps enrolled for 2019 the Prep pro-gram the dates are:

Wednesday 17th October 9:30 - 10:45

Wednesday 24th October 9:30 - 10:45

Wednesday 31st October 9:30 - 10:45

We look forward to meeting new DNPS families and in particular, seeing the next generation of learners to our school.

Dandenong North will be celebrating BOOK WEEK with a Book Parade to be held on Tuesday 4TH SEP-TEMBER from 9.30am – 11am.

This is a wonderful time of the year to celebrate and to encourage children to sit down and enjoy reading a book just for pleasure.

Imagination drives creativity and innovation. It al-lows us to envision and escape to worlds beyond our own, to times other than the here and now. Imagination is behind every fairy tale and picture book we cherish from our childhood. So come dressed as your favourite book character or non-fiction character to this fun and crea-tive event.

The best dressed book characters from each class will win a free book.

We look forward to seeing our parents in attend-

ance as well.

Our Year 4 students have been lucky to be involved in

a new reading program working alongside some Lyndale Secondary College

students.

The students have been split into groups and allocated a novel. Each week they are

given a section of the book that must be read up to and these chapters will be the

basis for the group discussions. The aim of the pro-gram is to deepen our students love of good litera-ture.

Some of the books being

studied are Char-lotte’s Web, Holes and Fuzzy

Mud. We hope the discussions

with their Year 9 mentors will ele-vate our stu-

dent’s comprehension and questioning skills.

We look forward to following the progress of this new and exciting program over the next few weeks.

University of NSW Mathematics Testing

Last week the students who had selected to sit the University of New South Wales Mathemat-ics Test, did so.

We have had some parents requesting the test booklet be returned to their children in order for them to review the questions.

The tests will be returned to the children once the results have been sent to the school - which

happens later in the year.

This will then allow parents to see the questions that children answered both correctly and incor-rectly, so that further consultation over skills and knowledge, can be had.

Year 4 Dandenong Council Chambers Visit

The 10 day Intensive Swimming Program will be held in Term Four during late November and early December.

Lessons this year will again be taught at Just Swim-ming, Scott Street Dandenong.

Students will travel to and from the pool by bus every day for two weeks. The cost of this program is $50.00, which equates to $5 per lesson.

There have been notes sent home to all students last week and you can collect another note if required, from the office.

As Dandenong North Primary has continued to grow, positions are limited so it is very important that the school receives confirmation of your inten-tion to have your student participate in the program

2018 Swimming Program

as soon as possible. As part of this confirmation a $20 deposit or full payment is required.

If you wish for your child to participate in the swimming program your payment must be fi-nalized by Friday 2nd November 2018.

Last Friday the Year 4 students attended an Excur-sion to the Dandenong City Council and Library as

part of their theme ‘Democracy Rules’. The stu-dents loved participating in the Library tour, learn-ing about all the interesting programs and services

they offer. Students also got to experience what the Dandenong Council does, listening to a talk about the different levels of government and the

role in which the local government plays in our community. Students enjoyed the excursion and asked a variety of interesting questions about the

different services they offer.
