12 April 2017 News from the ETH Alumni Association ETH Zurich Foundation "think talk @ tibits" The ETH Zurich Foundation invited sponsors under the age of 40 to an after-work gathering entitled “think talk tibits”, already the second time this event has been put on. Just like its previous incarnation, the get-together was held in the back office at tibits. General Manager of Uber Switzerland and ETH alumnus Rasoul Jalali took centre stage. Both dreamed of having their own company. An internship as well as various business courses at ETH helped them develop the idea for IDUN HealthTech. Alumni Chapter Shanghai“Technological February with the Alumni Chapter Shanghai”

In February, the Shanghai Chapter hosted two events dealing with the use of technology in everyday life. At the event “Hacker- or Makerspace” the alumni gained insights into interesting projects. Eleven days later, they met for an event focusing on how technology influences people’s daily fitness programmes.

What do engineers, doctoral students and postdocs have to do with Walt Disney, and why does the company have a research lab in Zurich? In mid-March, around 30 MAS MTEC alumni were able to explore these and other questions at Disney Research Zurich and obtained an interesting insight into the world of Walt Disney.

Materials Alumni“Visiting the Nägeli Swiss AG company”

On 9 March the Materials Alumni visited the Nägeli Swiss AG company. This company has traditionally operated in the field of pressing and forming technology, but has also specialised in fibre composite technology over the last 30 years. CEO Niklaus Nägeli explained the company’s philosophy and personally led the tour through the operation.

Biotech Alumni“Skiing weekend in Engelberg”

In the early afternoon on 17 March, a horde of BSSE master students, doctoral students and alumni met at the Basel train station for a trip to the mountains. It was a weekend full of fun, skiing and many interactions between former and current members of the Biosystems Science and Engineering Department at ETH Zurich.

On 3 April, members of the Alumni Chapter Netherlands gathered near Arnhem to celebrate their 70th anniversary. Before lunch, around 20 alumni held their general meeting. They then visited the BE Semiconductor Industries N.V. company and rounded off the celebration with dinner.
