THE SUCCESS OFLONDON 2012.As the Official Automotive and Sustainability Partner for the Games, BMWand The Country Garage are celebrating one of the most successful summersof sport in British history and toasting the success of our Team GB andParalympicsGB athletes, as well as the hugely important role BMW carsplayed in the smooth running of London 2012.

The BMW fleet, selected for its fuel-efficiency, ensured that the right peoplewere in the right place at the right time. The fleet provided great support atevents and, amongst other responsibilities, BMW cars could be seen pullingboats out of the water at the sailing, carrying mobile camera platforms for themarathon, towing horse trailers and transporting medal winners around theOlympic Park for media interviews. In the two years leading up to the Games,the BMW Group and its dealers have been supporting British athletes in theirjourney to be part of Team GB or ParalympicsGB through the BMW London2012 Performance Team. Over 130 local athletes were supported by BMWand MINI Dealers, 90 of which qualified for the London 2012 Olympic andParalympic Games, which was an outstanding achievement.

Between these 90 athletes an incredible 46 Olympic and Paralympic medalswere won, with many setting new records for their personal or season’s best.A total of 18 Gold medals were awarded to such athletes as Alistair Brownlee(Triathalon) and Ellie Simmonds (S6 400m Freestyle & S6 200m IndividualMedley), and of course, the invincible David Weir (T54 800m,T54 5000m &T54 Marathon). 10 Silvers went to athletes that included Louis Smith(Gymnastics), while a further 18 Bronze medals were presented to the likes ofRebecca Adlington (400m & 800m Freestyle) and Tom Daley (Diving).
