TPS TIMES June 8th, 2018 - Term 2 week 6

CRICOS Provider no. 00018A

Members of the leadership team try to be out in the

yard as much as possible before and after school. This

is a great opportunity for us to catch up with as many

parents as possible for a chat.

If you see us out there don’t hesitate to come up and

ask any questions on your mind about school. Here

are a couple of questions we’ve been asked recently.

“When are the year 7’s going to move to high

school?”

Unfortunately we don’t have a definitive answer on

this. When the Premier was recently asked about this

his response was 2020. We don’t know exactly what

that means, whether all year 7’s will be at high school

by 2020, or if that’s the last year of year 7’s at primary

school. What we do know is a Project Officer for this

has just been appointed and we will be getting

information soon.

“I’ve heard about Gonski Funding. What do we use

that money for at Torrensville?”

We call it Better Schools Funding and this year we

received just over $19,000. The way we use this

money is for our literacy and numeracy intervention

programs. They are MiniLit and MultiLit (literacy) and

Too Smart and Big Ideas in Number (numeracy).

Students are identified who do not qualify for

additional support, but data shows they could do

with a boost through a short-term intervention

program that can fill in a few gaps in learning and

help children get back to expected learning levels.

Our testing of students participating shows solid

progress because of this intervention.

We look forward to the opportunity to answer further

questions out in the yard.

ROOM 10 Inquiring, Learning and Collaborating

This term has been busy and engaging with lots of opportunities for

Intellectual Stretch!

Here is just a small sample of some of our learning this term. From

designing lunar missions, writing dramatic six sentence stories to the

precise calculations of scaled solar system models.

We’ve had a focus on Reconciliation, a trip to the Brickworks

Shopping Centre, Gratitude exploration and even a

delicious Oreo moon phases collaboration. It’s been fun,

energetic, chaotic and exciting as we delved deep into our

inquiry: ONE EARTH, ONE UNIVERSE!! Maria Nasone

During this term so far we have learnt many interesting things and

done heaps of Astronomy related tasks. We have done space missions

and learnt how much we would weigh on the different planets. Some

other fun and exciting activities we have done are, create a scale

version of our solar system, explored the moon phases using yummy

Oreos and even completed a STEM Lunar Mission. We went to the

Brickworks for lunch as a class celebration. Sahalia

School Football

With the football season well underway the students of

Torrensville have been representing the school in a

fantastic way in our local community. Thank you to all the

parents who have assisted at all of the games.

Last weekend our students played mini league for West

Adelaide at City Mazda Stadium during the half time break

of the league game between West Adelaide and Sturt.

After the game they provided the guard of honour for the

league teams to re enter the playing field and received a

football for their efforts. Thanks to our coaches David/ Sue

and team managers Brett/Mark.

On the weekend of June 17th

the teams are playing

another mini league game at the Port Adelaide Football

Club at Alberton. We look forward to another fun

opportunity for all our players.

Reminder

There are no games this weekend.

If your son /daughter would like to join the football team

we still have some vacancies in the 4/5 team. Please

contact me at school.
