The Social on Monday was a great success. We had 93 members and 11 guests who attended. The Art Quilt Group did a great job hostessing with fantastic table decorations and set up. Jerrie Thornton and her group worked hard all day to set up the sale, silent auction, and the auction. We can never thank them enough for the hard work that they do. All proceeds go to the Service Projects of the Guild and know that it was a huge success. We also initiated our new board for 2019/2020. We welcome all new members and say thank you to the outgoing members. These ladies and gentlemen work hard during their tenure and we dont always show our ap- preciation for their hard work. Wednesday was the ArtWalk in Shreveport and the Art Quilt Group did an interactive quilt block demonstra- tion. Kelly Pugh and her group did another great job hanging quilts around the room and coordinating the interactive activity. Throughout the night, there was laughter and talking as men, women, and children made blocks that will be made into a very special quilt. There was a lot of talent that went through on Wednesday, and there were many peo- ple who took information about the quilt guild and upcoming show. What a wonderful way to bring knowledge and information about our guild to the community. Thank you to all who participated!!! We now have 98 entries to the Quilt Show. It is going to be a fantastic show. The quilts are all beautiful and I know the judges will have a hard time choosing the better ones. They are all winners!!! If you have not entered your quilt, you still have time at the August meeting, and Thread Benders (August 7) and Haughton Tributary (August 14) meet- ings. There are great things happening in the Guild, lets continue to be active and invite the community to join us by sell- ing donation quilt tickets, inviting interested people to attend guild and tributary meetings, and showing our love of quilting. RED RIVER QUILTERS EXHIBITION

AT CENTRAL ARTSTATION Wed, Jun 5, 2019 5:00 PM to Fri, Jul 19, 2019 5:00 PM

The Art of quilting has been referred to as a journey of color and inspiration; a feast of imagi-nation and expression. Keeping this age-old form of art alive is what NWLA quilting artists of the Red River Quilters do. See an exhibition of their work and learn more about preserving this art form June 5 to July 26 at the Central ArtStation.www.shrevearts.org

A few words from Kelly Pugh, RRQ Representative with Shreveport Arts Council

Thank you to all of the Art Quilt Group members for their hard work (and creativity!) in preparing for and host-ing the RRQ July social, and for loaning their quilts and coming to support downtown's Art Walk on July third! Artwalk was a smashing success, we were packed full the entire time and had so many quilters AND non-quilters participating in making raw edge applique and hand-drawn quilt blocks...special shout out to the person who came up with that idea AND to those who willingly figured out how to take it from idea to event. . .and to the ladies who labored really hard in the kitchen and afterward Monday night. . . and to the MacGyvers among us who helped to set everything up so creatively. . . and to all of you (AND your loved ones!!) who do-nate, who suggest, who SHOW UP and participate! What a great group, thanks!

FREE and open to the public. Check the website for hours and additional information

GUILD BOOTH As you all know our 2019 Red River Quilt Show is coming soon. In the past we have always had a “Guild Booth” and we plan on doing so again this year. For those of you who don’t know about the Guild Booth our members make homemade items that pertain to the art of sewing and sell their items in the booth. The member receives 90% of the money that their items sell for and the guild receives the other 10% of the money. Each item you put in the booth will be given a number and that is how the accounting is handled. Say you have 10 items that are all the same each item will have to be assigned a specific number. (10 tea towels, 10 numbers). Taxes have to be collected on all sales. Also since you have put your items in the booth you are required to volunteer to man the booth for a set time. After the show is over the money is tallied and matched with the numbers and in a few days you will receive a check from the guild for your items that were sold. So get to crafting and get ready to make some extra money$$ so you can buy more FABRIC!!! Just a idea of things to make: Pot holders Pot scrubbers Place mats Oven boas Bowl cozies Table runners Garments Quilts Baby bibs Baby blankets Burp cloths Crocheted items Potato bags Grocery bags For more information contact Eloise Litton, (318)210-5132 or Delores Woods Woods, (318)588-2682

COMFORT CAPS: We had a wonderful time at the July auction with a very large attendance for a night function with both guild groups coming together for fellowship and shopping—what a great experience for all. Also, during the guild meeting two ladies managed in their busy schedules to make 18 comfort caps (11 were from her very own stash of fabric—THANK YOU). Those ladies are Jackie Pierce and Gayle Wallace. Gayle also provided some 8” batting circles to use in the kits. I am always so blessed that this guild continues to support this service project for the past 10 years. If you need to contact me about Comfort Caps for the

pattern, kits or that you need a cap yourself, reach out at [email protected] Cathy Callaway LOVE WRAPPERS At past guild meetings I have reported about the abundance of quilts being made from our volunteers and mentioned one group in particular. I need to make amends and mention that the majority of our Love Wrappers are being made by two of our quilt tributaries—Quilt Queens and Mission Outreach. They produce as many as 50 of our quilts each month and some-times without recognition of their work. So, I would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to those ladies who volunteer their time and share their love of quilting. We have 23 names of those participating in the 51 Love Wrappers turned in July 1, 2019 Suzanne Heim, Lisa McCurdy, Sue Chase, Jeannine James, Cathy Ward, Priscilla Bogart, Marilyn Hammet, Susan German, Tamera May, Mary Bradford, Mary Tiner, Marilyn Tisdale, Kiley Yohn, Alice Kijak, Ginger Emerson, Bettie Henderson, Connie Fyfe, Rose Jumah, Linda McCoullough, Gayle Broyles, Harold Mohrmann, Mildred Farmer and Meg Tiller. MISSION OUTREACH AND THE QUILT QUEENS Thank you to all those who donated time and talents (and often supplies) for the Service Projects. Together we made and turned in 51 Love Wrappers.... awesome, beautiful, and amazing. I am so proud of each one of you. Each one is growing and improving in so many ways with your sewing/quilting skills. Special Thanks to Lisa McCurdy and Jeannine James for the long-arm quilting on many of these quilts. Also, a huge thank you to all who donated funds for additional tables; our tributary is growing beautifully and I congratulate you in that we now have more useful spaces available for sewing, cutting, and laying-out the quilts (or having a small workshop in a quieter space). We have grown from one to three rooms (and sometimes we even use the kitchen area work spaces--fourth room). MISSION OUTREACH In July (11-13) we will have our annual three-day-sewing-retreat with a workshop, actually two workshops. Jeannine James will be available to continue the T-Shirt Quilt workshop for those wanting more help on Saturday. I will be offering a workshop using "Fat Quarters" where we will make a Love Wrapper out of a few fat quarters. You do need to be signed up and present on Thursday (for instructions) and complete the quilt Friday and Saturday, as needed. I will provide enough kits OR you may bring 8 or more of your own fat quarters ...all the projects are to be made into Love Wrappers and turned in; that is the cost of the class (one completed Love Wrapper made from fat quarters.... I am prepared to provide the supplies and instruc-tions and you provide the time and talent.) You are still welcome if not involved in a workshop. Love Wrapper kits will be available for those wanting to continue with the traditional design or you may work on your own projects. Everyone is welcome. You are still welcome if not involved in a workshop. Love Wrapper kits will be available for those wanting to continue with the traditional design or you may work on your own projects. Everyone is welcome. A look ahead.... In September Marilyn Tisdale will be offering a class about making a beautiful pillow cover she calls "The Love, Love, Love Pillow" and it will make a beautiful gift if that is what you might want to do with it. That will be happening at Mission Outreach September 20-21 and you will need to be signed up in advance to get the supply list and instructions. Send me an e-mail or text to get your name on a workshop list, the reminder e-mail notice, or if you have questions. Thank you, Cathy Ward, 318-422-3177, [email protected]

RRQ will be participating in the 2019 Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival on Saturday, July 27

th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm inside

Prather Coliseum. As a participant we are invited to display and sell quilts and demonstrate quilting and quilting tech-niques. Any quilts we sell, we are allowed to keep the pro-ceeds. If you would like to participate for all or part of the day, please notify Terry Blackman. She is needing volunteers and welcomes any time you are able to give! If you plan to partici-pate, please let her know as soon as possible. It should be a fun day for all who go! The Festival will be held in air-conditioned Prather Coliseum on the North-western State University campus in Natchitoches. The 2019 festival theme is: “Vive la Louisiane!” The festival theme celebrates the ways in which so many outstanding artists young and old are tap-ping into the power and artistry of the old ways, revitalizing and reimagining tradition as they make it their own. The festival will include a wide variety of traditional crafts, folk foods, Kidfest, three stages with live music, narrative sessions, and music informances.
