GARWOOD SCHOOL CHEERLEADER TRYOUTS Thursday, April 12, tryouts were held for girls interested in being cheer- leaders for Garwood School during for the 2001-2002 school year. The girls spent every afternoon of that week participating in practices held after school. The current cheer- leaders helped lead those rehearsals. The 2001-02 squad will include Kristen Danklefs, Jessica Eng- strom, Kali Hammermiller, Katie Hoffman, B.J. Jurica, Noelle Ju- rica, Sasha Sharp and Kayla Wish- ert. Congratulations to all these girls for their efforts and best wishes for the coming year. RAIDER SPECIAL OLYMPICS The Rice Raider Special Olym- pic Team traveled to Pflugerville re- cently to compete in the area track meet. Results were: J.L. Miller, 1st place, wheelchair race, 1 min, 50 sec- onds and 2nd in the ball throw, 1 meter, 9 cm.; Clifford Miller, 2nd, wheelchair race, 27.45; 4th, race/ walk, 40.33, and 3rd, softball throw, 4 meters, 0 cm. Eric Guthrie won 1st in both the 100 meter dash (16.03) and the shot put (8 meters, 35 cm). Erika Ellenbogen won 2nd in the softball throw (10 meters, 94 cm) and 1st in the 100 meter dash (21.94). Congratulations to these athletes for a great job! For the Eagle Lake Raiders, Beth Lipperdt won 1st in 50 meter walk and 5th in the softball throw. Angela Duet won 2nd in both the 100 meter walk and the softball throw. We would like to send our prayers to Lizzy Longoria who is recovering and getting treatments for leukemia. She is one of our athletes who com- petes in Special Olympics but could not go to this event. We're hoping to get her back soon. We love you, Lizzy! For the fifth six weeks, eight stu- dents at Garwood School were treated to a hamburger lunch by Principal Bill Hefner for earning the most points in the Accelerated Reading program for their grade. Winners were:

GARWOOD SCHOOL CHEERLEADER TRYOUTS

Thursday, April 12, tryouts were held for girls interested in being cheer- leaders for Garwood School during for the 2001-2002 school year.

The girls spent every afternoon of that week participating in practices held after school. The current cheer- leaders helped lead those rehearsals.

The 2001-02 squad will include Kristen Danklefs, Jessica Eng- strom, Kali Hammermiller, Katie Hoffman, B.J. Jurica, Noelle Ju- rica, Sasha Sharp and Kayla Wish- ert.

Congratulations to all these girls for their efforts and best wishes for the coming year.

RAIDER SPECIAL OLYMPICS The Rice Raider Special Olym-

pic Team traveled to Pflugerville re- cently to compete in the area track meet.

Results were: J.L. Miller, 1st place, wheelchair race, 1 min, 50 sec- onds and 2nd in the ball throw, 1 meter, 9 cm.; Clifford Miller, 2nd, wheelchair race, 27.45; 4th, race/ walk, 40.33, and 3rd, softball throw, 4 meters, 0 cm.

Eric Guthrie won 1st in both the 100 meter dash (16.03) and the shot put (8 meters, 35 cm).

Erika Ellenbogen won 2nd in the softball throw (10 meters, 94 cm) and

1st in the 100 meter dash (21.94). Congratulations to these athletes

for a great job! For the Eagle Lake Raiders,

Beth Lipperdt won 1st in 50 meter walk and 5th in the softball throw. Angela Duet won 2nd in both the 100 meter walk and the softball throw.

We would like to send our prayers to Lizzy Longoria who is recovering and getting treatments for leukemia. She is one of our athletes who com- petes in Special Olympics but could not go to this event. We're hoping to get her back soon. We love you, Lizzy!
