Innovative, informative, intel-ligent – pCon in VitraHaus

If you visit VitraHaus in Weil am Rhein (Germany), you can experience a fascinating exhi-bition of modern interior design – it‘s about solutions and inspi-ration. And pCon is part of the scenario.

The Vitra Home Collection in the VitraHaus designed by Herzog and de Meuron comes across as being strikingly vibrant and innovative. Laid out in so-called collages, which are to be seen as a counterpart to the changing circumstances of living areas, the arrangements are presen-

ted in different styles. Each area is equipped with at least one information terminal, whose most prominent feature is a touchpad, which is used to operate a configurator.

By logging on to the terminal with a personalized RFID card, the visitors can see the exhibits in front of them appear on the first level of interaction. By using the touchpad, the visitors can then move on to the second level, where they are presen-ted with information about the selected product. On the basis of OFML, the online configurator offers an overview of all possible versions of the article as well

as details about the designer and price. Thanks to the personal identification data on the RFID card, this information is directly displayed in the relevant language and currency of the visitor’s country. Each terminal is connected to the entire IT-infrastructure of Vi-tra, which gives visitors access to the complete product catalog. They can create a personal wish list of items with a click on the mouse, which can then be sent via e-mail.

Whereas the planning and realization of the media in the VitraHaus were carried out to-gether by Vitra and iart interac-tive, EasternGraphics was cho-sen as Vitra‘s technology partner for providing the online confi-gurator. Thanks to this product and its powerful interfaces, an entirely new form of cooperation has been created between industrial companies, agencies and software companies. An aesthetic solution has emerged from this interdisciplinary net- work to present Vitra’s entire product portfolio using electronic catalogs in an exhibition. At this, the online configurator fulfills its role as an information source in the presentation areas of Vitra-Haus and it is seamlessly integ-rated and effective.

Jointly developed and supported by pilot customers, the EGR RenderFactory will be officially launched at the forthcoming Or-gatec 2012.

Racing on to high-quality ima-ges and videos with our new productVisualization is a selling point – and so it is hardly surprising that the demand has increased for high-quality images and videos to display products and product solutions. Generating poignant images in a photorealistic qua-lity requires technical resources as well as time and has previ-ously been associated with con-siderable effort and expense.

With the EGR RenderFactory EasternGraphics has developed a product that helps you to auto-matically assign render orders to the available computers within a network, thus optimizing the use of the capacity available – all this just at the push of a button from the workspace of the pCon.planner Pro.

Once the planning is completed, a render order is sent by pres-sing a button in the menu bar. This may consist of one image or more that are turned into an animation of associated image sequences. The job to be fulfilled is monitored by a Render-Mas-

ter and is distributed to all of the available computers on the net-work, so-called Slaves (Fig. I). This can be either local worksta-tions or render servers.

While the image computation is organized and completed through the EGR RenderFactory, the planner can continue to work on his computer without restrictions. A dialog box gives him information about the status of each job any time and also

offers the option to manually intercept jobs or even stop them (Fig. II).

By being able to use the EGR RenderFactory in conjunction with network drives and file sharing services (e.g. drop-box), the render results can be viewed from anywhere and can be processed and sent inde-pendently from the workstation. This creates flexibility and reflects the mobile spirit of the age.

More than 30 people did not want to miss out this special event and attended the seminar. pCon is also known in Eastern Europe: In the Czech Republic, Libor Štolc published the first article on pCon.planner and pCon.catalog in IT CAD. The number of downloads from the Czech Republic proves the transnational interest in pCon.

Positive response to BI The service “Be inspired“ (BI) integrated in the pCon.catalog is very compelling – that is the opinion of numerous users who enter their personal inspirations on the web. You will be sur-prised. More innovative ideas will be presented at Orgatec. “Be inspired“ is an aesthetic highlight and will win visitors over with its smart product pre-sentation.

New website online soonEasternGraphics will present itself on the Internet in August with a new layout and revised contents. In terms of a profes-sional, uniform appearance in the virtual world, the design of the new pages is adapted to the pCon.catalog website and provides direct access to other services, such as the blog, “Be inspired“ and Facebook. We provide information and news about our pCon technology as well as about industries, service and support. It’s worth taking a look!
