Hello to all the Lions from our District 201W2. Our year isquickly coming to a close. PDG Alan and I wish your all a verymerry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We completed all our November Club visits and now only have 5to do next February. The clubs all have a variety of projects andsome are kept very busy. It was good to see that the majority ofthe Clubs had already done their constitutions and sent them in.Remember you only have till June 2019 to get them in. loathe to ask for assistance. Please don’t letany of our own members slip through the cracksin these times of need.

Our current membership figures have nowincreased to 1391. This is a great effort by allthe Clubs. If we keep this up, I hope the Districtcan get to 1450 by end of June 2019. I have hada meeting with Clubs in the metro area with theview to starting a new Club, with work in progressso, watch this space.

On the subject of Club Members and socialmedia, a message has come from our Nationaloffice in Newcastle regarding the misuse of socialmedia by Clubs and Members. “”There havebeen several instances of inappropriate useof social media on the Facebook pagesoperated by Clubs. This has included thingssuch as derogatory comments about othermembers, bullying, and personal grievancesbeing played out in public. District PR chairshave been reminded of the importance ofadopting and adhering to the Lions AustraliaSocial Media Policy.” That said, social mediais an incredibly powerful and effective wayof us sharing Lions Australia projects, toencourage public support and to increasemembership – and it is to be encouraged.””The above is just part of the communicationreceived, if you have any queries within your ownclub, please contact myself. I’m sure this will bepart of our Council of Governors meeting inJanuary. At the moment, I don’t think it is aproblem in our district.

There is still 1 vacant position on Cabinet withthe ZONE 3 CHAIRPERSON position stillneeding to be filled. Come on Boddington,Waroona, Pinjarra, Brunswick Junction andHarvey Clubs, you are all strong Clubs withexperienced members who would be capable offilling this position. Please would all yourmembers give this serious consideration. I awaityour calls.

By now all Clubs would have started selling theirxmas cakes and doing their sleigh runs for thechildren. I hope they are all going well. Don’tforget to get your stories and pictures into ournewsletter editor so the district knows what youare achieving. I hope the gold tins are sellingwell.

Please keep in mind in March 2019, when wewill celebrate the National Lions Awareness Dayand you will receive information in the comingmonths about how we can celebrate the day andhelp to increase the knowledge of non -membersabout Lions and attract new members. I hopeall Clubs have booked their date at Bunnings forthe sausage sizzle. It has been suggested thatyou use that date for your “Biggest BBQ” for theAustralian Lions Children’s Cancer ResearchFoundation. If you require any posters, pleasecontact PDG Peter Lamb who is on thecommittee.

Webmaster’s Tip of the MonthWebmasters, have you been tussling withreducing the file size of photos you want touse on the club website? I was recently giventhis fabulously easy ‘cheat’s method’ that cutsout all the techno-babble.

Step 1: Post the photo to a Facebook page(maybe your club’s, or even set up a closedone just for this purpose and to use as yourpractice page).

Step 2: Download the photo from theFacebook page and BINGO! It hasautomatically been re-sized by the magic ofFacebook. Just save it on your computer witha different file name and you’re ready to use iton your website. How easy was that???!!!Have a play with it and let me know how yougo.

I look forward to seeing some of you at theDistrict workshops that are coming up in theNew Year – see elsewhere in this newsletterfor details of the Busselton one. At each ofthese we are offering an optional ‘morningafter’ for those who would like to spend acouple of hours on whatever you need to knowin the IT area. These workshops will be veryinformal and tailored to the needs of thoseattending. Hope you see some of you there, and you are most welcome to email me priorto the event with your questions or a list ofthings you would like to learn more about.

Have a happy and healthy Christmaseveryone.
