government.

Al-Akhbar: Egyptian state-owned semi-official daily newspaper It was founded in May 1952 as a part of Akhbar El Yom.

Al-Gomhoria: Egyptian state-owned daily newspaper An influential state-owned Egyptian Arabic language daily newspaper. It was established in 1954.

Al-Shorouk: Egyptian daily independent newspaper is a prominent Arabic newspaper published in Egypt[1] and several other Arabic nations. It is a daily independent

Tantawi for President” Campaign Dubs its Outspoken Critics as Hypocrites

The popular campaign supporting the nomination of SCAF head,

Hussein Tantawi, for presidency condemned some politicians and media

persons, who harshly criticized the campaign, as hypocrites.

In a press conference, founder Mahmoud Attiya said those who

criticize the campaign aim to drive a wedge between the people and the Army.

Prime Defendant in “Gas Pipeline Blasts” Arrested

Security forces in North Sinai arrested the main suspect behind

recent attacks on gas pipelines in the governorate.

Ali Mohamed Hamd, a.k.a El-Tihi, was arrested unscathed on

Sunday night. He is the leader of the so-called “Takfir and Jihad in Sinai,” an

ideologically-affiliated Qaeda group.

Tihi was also involved in an attack on Al-Arish police station on July

29, which left 2 officers dead and 7 injured.

A feud between two families took an ugly turn when both sides

exchanged fire, leaving two members injured by gunshots.

FeAwwa Urges Citizens to Protest on Nov. 18 ud

Presidential hopeful Mohamed Selim El-Awwa called on the

masses to partake in the protests of November 18 to reclaim “looted rights.”

Awwa also warned against chanting slogans against the

Supreme Council of the Armed Forces or its leader Field Marshal Hussein

Tantawi.

He reiterated rejection of the constitutional principles document

floated by Deputy Prime Minister Ali El-Selmi.

140 candidates compete in Imbaba constituency and a heated competition between

Salafis and NDP remnants there.

87 candidates compete on 2 seats in the third constituency in

Kalyobya governorate.

Al-Jamaa Al-Islamya failed in its ally with MB and didn’t get any

privilege out oftheir ally with the Salafis.

Al-Jamaa’s slate included the majority of their candidates from

Sohag, Asyut , and Menya governorates.

A leader in Al-Jamaa said they are not aiming to win the seats, but

rather seeking the political alliance with the Salafis.

slates.

They threatened to withdraw from the coming

elections because being in the bottom of the list meant more

Asyout Administrative Court ruled in favor of the

Democratic Front Party that includes the Revolution Youth Coalition.

According to the ruling, the party’s slate is accepted.

The Front Party faced troubles when the General Electoral

Commission of Asyout rejected the slate. Accordingly, the Democratic

Front Party filed a claim at the Administrative Court.

refused to permit press conferences with the party’s women

candidates who wear the niqab ( face-covering veils).

Shu’ayb argued that women were on al-Nour slates

cosmetically to complete the number of candidates. Women presence

on slates is legally mandatory for slates to be accepted.

Salafi women are not allowed to show in the media.

Port Sa’id’s Attorny, Judge Sami ‘Adilah called for

urgent investigations over “grave violations” committed by

Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice in the governorate.

Wa’il al-Shahhat Muhammad, candidate of the Arab

Egyptian Union Party had filed a claim documented with

evidence against candidates of the Justice and Freedom Party in

the city.

The claim was filed against violations related to

using religious slogans. They also used mosques and some

schools for their campaign publicities.

The claim demanded to exclude the candidates who

committed the violations.

Al-Wafd Rejects Secularism and Theocracy

Dr. al-Sayyid al-Badawi, head of al-Wafd Party highlighted

the importance of the first phase of the People’s Assembly Elections.

Al-Badawi stated that the result of the first phase will

determine the party’s activity in the next two phases.

Al-Badawi stated also that al-Wafd Party rejects secularism

that separates between religion and the state, explaining that, at the same

time, the party is against clergy dominance over the State. Al-Badawi

elaborated that al-Wafd Party advocated liberalism that abides by the

second article of the Egyptian Constitution which states that the Islamic

Shari’ah is the main source of legislation.

Al-Badawi added that the Democratic Alliance document

signed by all parties admitted Copts’ rights to refer to their religious

legislations in personal status affairs.

Government Contests Court Decision to Exclude Former NDP Members from Elections(1/3)

Judge Mohammed Attiya, Minister of Local Development,

said the government has already filed an appeal to the decision of the

Mansoura Administrative Court to exclude former members of the

dissolved National Democratic Party from the coming elections.

“The government should file an appeal to the decision

before the Supreme Administrative Court as the decision was based on

its previous decision to dissolve the NDP,” he explained.

A meeting between members of the legislative committee at

the Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Minister of Justice Mohamed Abd

Al-Aziz, concluded that excluding the NDP remnants does not

necessarily mean eliminating the entire lists that contained some of the

former members of the NDP.

Government Contests Court Decision to Exclude Former NDP Members from Elections(2/3)

NDP remnants responded to the decision by filing lawsuits

that demand halting the decision of the Higher Electoral Committee to

exclude them from the coming elections. Some of them also filed lawsuits

demanding the exclusion of the Muslim Brotherhood members from

elections.

In Alexandria, some activists took the initiative to implement

“popular exclusion” of NDP remnants, following the Administrative

Court’s decision to allow a former member of NDP to run in elections. A

number of revolutionary political movements and activists set out in a

march to tear down the banners of NDP remnants.

Judges said decisions varied between the Mansoura Court

and the Alexandria Court because it is up for each judge to decide

whether the exclusion applies to the situation or not.

Maspero Youth Coalition: We Will Continue Protests

The Maspero Youth Coalition has played a vital role in

organizing marches and protests in response to sectarian strife.

They advocate the social and political rights of Copts in

Egypt and call for putting an end to attacks targeting churches.

Bishoy Metri, one of the members of the coalition, said

they refused to have any talks with the Supreme Council of Armed

Forces whom, they believe, was responsible for the bloody events at

Maspero that took place on 9 October 2011, and in which 28 protesters

were killed.

designed ballot papers with the Braille system to allow vision-impaired

Chairwoman Fatma Hashim.

Freedom and Justice Party’s nominees threatened to protest the

decision of the HEC as it refused to hand them the complete data of voters’

lists in Cairo. The HEC only gave them partial information whereas it should

have given them the complete data of voters as this helps parties during

electoral campaigns.

Some of the Sufis, who were former members of the National

Democratic Party, challenged the decision of political exclusion. They said it

will cause major setbacks in their party lists and they would not have the time

to create new ones.

Elections Updates (2/2)

A campaign titled “Pay Attention”, joined a number of activists

in Alexandria, promising to “cleanse the city from the banners of NDP

remnants” in order to prevent them from participating in the first parliament

since the revolution.

Egyptian Revolution Coalition will participate in the Friday

demonstrations of November 18 to declare their refusal of Al-Selmi’s

document.

Amr Hamzawy, political science professor nominated for Masr

Al-Gedida district, said development will occur when every district adopts a

developmental approach and implements it. Hamzawy pledged that his

campaign headquarters will be offices to provide continuous support for

citizens in his district.

Revolution Youth Coalition was first to announce, in Isma’iliya,

their comprehensive electoral program. The program includes their ideas

regarding the constitution, poverty in the countryside, unemployment,

housing, education and Egypt’s position from Israel.

Alexandria Court for Urgent Matters decided to delay to

January the examination of the Two Saints Church case.

The Two Saints Church in Alexandria was hit by a blast earlier

in the year, leaving many people dead and injured.

The case was leveled against former prime minister Ahmed

Nazif, former interior minister Habib El-Adli and incumbent

Attorney General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud.

Violence Continues in Aswan over Police Killing Boatman

Violent clashes erupted in Aswan, yesterday, after

a boatman was shot by a policeman, on November 6th. The

boatman was reported to have died of his wounds.

Hundreds rallied in front of Aswan’s morgue and

others surrounded the Aswan’s security directorate.

People were carrying the deceased to his final

burial place when police attacked them with tear gas bombs.

In response, protestors crashed the Police Club.
