Noor Ul Islam Primary School 15 Jumada Al-Akhirah 1437//24 March 2016 Assalaamualaykum wa Rahmutallahi wa Barakatahu Dear parents/ guardians and iends of the school, Entering the final term of the year there is much to look forward to, I would like to begin though by thanking the school community who came together wonderfully to celebrate World Book Week. As always we are indebted to the parents for their amazing support of the school. We had some amazing entries for the competitions, in particular the baking competition. There have been some amazing enrichment activities this term from the trips to the Maritime museum through to our girls attending a ‘Robotics’ session at Imperial College. We also had students from Forest School working with our Year 5 class exploring ideas such as Global Warming, Community and E-Safety. Not to mention Naimah B.Roberts who came in to inspire our pupils to becoming authors and writers of the future. There are plenty of other stories inside. Looking ahead we have our annual residential for Years 5 and 6 coming up as well as the annual Sports day. Included in this newsletter are the key dates for the end of year, please do note them down and where relevant do come along and support the children. Finally I would like to thank my staff for their continual efforts in trying to achieve the best for the pupils at school both in their academic studies and in the development of their character. It is therefore with a tinge of sadness we have to bid farewell to both Ms. Shahnaz and Ms. Sakeenah as they briefly leave us for important events in their respective lives. I hope to welcome them both back in the near future, inshaa’Allah. Ust. Majid Ishaque Head Teacher Spring Term (2) Reminders Last day of term: Thursday 24th March 2016. i7 Interschool Tournament 12th March 2016"!Noor Ul Islam pupils once again made their way to the i7 football competition held at Beckton Powerleague on Saturday 12th March 2016. Pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 were buoyed by their performance last year and were hoping to go along and bring the trophy home. Alas, others had the same idea and the competition was fierce. Two groups of 5 vied for a place in the semi final, with the top two in each group going through. Despite a valiant effort, our boys lost to Islamia school and Read Academy in the group stages which meant that, despite beating Al Noor, we didn’t make it through to the knockout stages. Eventual winners of the competition were Islamia school so a big masha’Allah, to them!

Year Six Kidzania Trip "Year 6 had a terrific trip to Kidzania in Shepherd’s Bush. They had the opportunity to take part in real-life role play activities that helped develop important life skills such as managing finance, independence and working as part of a team. Some of the jobs that the children tried out were: police officers, chocolate factory workers, smoothie makers, ice cream makers, working in A & E and many more. Some decided to attend University before joining the work force so they can get paid more Kidzos (Kidzania currency) as qualified workers. !

Year Three

Spring Term (2)

This half term Year 2 visited the Mari t ime

Museum. We had a fantastic day out where the children had the chance to explore and get interactive in the ‘Ahoy! Gallery’. There were many role-play areas linked to the sea for the children to have fun in.

During the afternoon we visited the Samuel Pepys exhibition; where they had the chance to see historic artefacts, a smart video and a short theatre performance.

We also visited the local park and museum gardens, which had some spectacular scenery - ma’sha’Allah!

Year Two

Pupils took part in a national campaign to ‘Help Keep Britain Tidy’/ ‘Clean for the Queen’. They were very enthusiastic and enjoyed picking litter in the local area, ma’sha’Allaah!

Year Five Year 5 had the wonderful opportunity to take part in a pond dipping session in the Soanes Centre, which was part of our Science unit on Life Cycles. They managed to dip out a variety of fresh water invertebrates such as blood worms, water spiders, shrimps, water snails and many more. We used microscopes to have a good look at these creatures and used keys to classify them into groups. We had a great time and ended our day with a nice run around in the local park!

GOVERNORS’ NEWS We would like to update you about what the Governing body has been doing in the last term.

Governor training

During the last term the governors have attended the following training programmes provided by AMS, Association of Muslim Schools.

• Induction for school governors (Sr Nailah and Br Amin)

• Monitoring school performance (Sr Nailah and Sr Zeenat)

• Preparation for Ofsted (Sr Zeenat)

• Headteacher Appraisal (Br Sammy)

The training involved in depth understanding of the importance of the governors’ role with practical steps to carry out the work most effectively. The feedback received from the governors was very positive and the programmes were insightful and helpful. We are also looking for ways to improve the performance in many areas. The training has been a great incentive to push us to work for perfection and excellence. It has also brought many positive changes immediately in how we look at running and monitoring the school through effective challenge and evaluation.   Sr Nailah and Sr Zeenat also delivered a training session on ‘Effective Governors and Monitoring’ to all the governors. This was useful for all governors who are currently undertaking a cycle of monitoring and evaluating the schools performance.

Governor Monitoring Visits

The governing body is comprised of three sub committees; Achievement, Standards & Curriculum, Staff and Pupil Welfare and Finance and Resources. Each sub committee is responsible for monitoring and scrutinising areas which fall under their remit. This is carried out through unannounced checks and visits which take place regularly throughout the school year. !A report is then completed and forwarded to the headteacher. Through subsequent visits to the school, governors are able to see if actions highlighted at previous visits have been completed. These checks are one way the governing body ensures there is effective feedback and a regular monitoring cycle to s u p p o r t a n d c h a l l e n g e t h e headteacher and senior leadership team.

Update from the Trust !In its aim to provide the community with social, educational and welfare services, Noor Ul Islam Trust has been continuing to run events despite being in the middle of its Rebuilding projecting.   On 21st February a football tournament run by the Trust had teams from Islamic Charities, the Police and a Tamil group amongst others. Working with Leyton Orient Trust, Noor Ul Islam arranged an afternoon of good-natured rivalry between 16 teams. !The Trust also held a “Mosque Open Day” on Sunday 7th February. Many people from different sections of the community visited the Trust’s temporary accommodation on High Road, Leyton, to learn about Islam first-hand. For number of people this was their first visit to a mosque. !Noor Ul Islam is hoping that its new building will be opened within the next 2-3 years. Estimated to cost just under £8 million the building will be the hub of the community with a whole floor dedicated to sisters (including prayer room specifically for mothers with young children and a women’s only gym). !Alhamdulillah to date around £3million has been raised through donations and loans. !Please contact the Head Office if you wish to donate to this great cause.
