Medical Geology Clay ®

Geology is no longer confined to the study of rocks and minerals.

I suspect that as the field of medical geology becomes better known, the medical community will discover that geology could play a major role in the etiology of a variety of diseases. Uncovering these relationships is an inherently multidisciplinary task. After all, for medical geology and geochemistry to be

of use to the public and to health authorities of a given region, all samples from the local environment --that is, rock, soils, water, plants, and food-- need to be studied together and correlated with in vivo studies.

In the medical field, too, as discoveries are made in the physiology and metabolism of trace elements, the biochemical mechanisms underlying the body's absorption and rejection of trace elements, and the cellular mechanisms that regulate these processes, researchers may also find a greater need for the understanding of geology and trace element geochemistry. Geology and medical science, disciplines that until now have been considered poles apart, may now find themselves joined into a multidisciplinary framework for unraveling some of nature's most interesting secrets.

Every day we eat, drink and breathe minerals and trace elements, never giving a thought to what moves from the environment and into our bodies. For most of us this interaction with natural materials is harmless, perhaps even beneficial, supplying us with essential nutrients. These interactions are the realm of medical geology, a fast-growing field that not only involves geoscientists but also medical, public health, veterinary, agricultural, and environmental and biological scientists. Medical geology is the study of the effects of geologic materials and processes on human, animal and plant health, with both good and possibly hazardous results.

The relationship between the Earth's surface that we humans inhabit and our health is under debate. The fact that a continuum and indelible link exists is not in doubt. We have obtained food, water, and shelter since Homo arrived, but in the twentieth century we have learned that disease as well as health may by derived from our environment. Certain diseases are attributed to several minerals sensu latu (concept that includes the minerals sensu restrictu considered as natural, inorganic and crystalline solids, the so-called oligoelements or trace minerals, the biominerals and mineral resources such as natural mineral water), naturally or humanly derived. Within minerals, clay minerals, the essential constituents of clays, are omnipresent at the earth surface where organisms live, and due to their specific properties they can interact, positively as a rule, with them. Some clay minerals are being used, either as active principles (gastrointestinal protectors, laxatives, antidiarrhoeaics), or as excipients (inert bases, emulsifiers, lubricants) in certain medicines. Also they participate in formulations used for topical applications in both dermopharmacy and dermocosmetics.

The geochemical distribution and biochemical availability of the elements that are required for human existence are not uniformly distributed over the Earth's surface. For example, low concentrations of iodine (I) characterize the soils and rocks at high elevations and in limestone terrains. This is a natural global phenomenon. Medical acumen and geostatistical and epidemiological investigations have identified iodine as an essential nutrient. The thick necks that were depicted in ancient Chinese scrolls, and the cretinism found in mountainous regions, are now recognized as symptoms of the endemic disease goitre. Jharkhand and other Eastern states in India are a Iodine deficiency zone. Reduction, but unfortunately not eradication, of this preventable malady is now possible through the use of iodine-enriched table salt and oils and by using other iodine-rich foods such as sea vegetables.

Specific properties of clay minerals such as the nanometer size and thin platy or fibrous shapes, the negative electric charge, and high adsorption and absorption capacities justify the therapeutic uses referred to. Also, these and other properties justify the use of clay minerals for improving environmental quality which is fundamental for the living quality of man and other organisms as they can act as catalysts for potentially benign and highly beneficial chemical processes. Due to the properties referred to, particularly the surface properties, clay minerals and other colloidal minerals (oxides, hydroxides and oxy-hydroxides of Fe, Mn and Al) constitute environmental factors of paramount importance since they can control the bioavailability, ecological effects, biogeochemical cycles, and distribution of trace metals and metalloids in ecosystems. Known heavy metals and metalloids have critically important biological effects, both beneficial and harmful.

Trace elements in natural waters and soil solutions can be readily taken up from solution by clay minerals and other colloidal minerals. The efficiency of this phenomenon depends on the properties and concentrations of the reactants, and on environmental factors that affect the forms of the elements and the surface properties of the colloids. (Jackson, 1998; Sparks, 2005).

The process involves:

1) Sorption by clay minerals, oxides and clay–oxide–humic complexes;

2) Co-precipitation with oxides;

3) Complexing by organic matter.

Among the clay minerals, montmorillonite and vermiculite are those that exhibit higher adsorption capacities. In aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems clay minerals, and other colloidal minerals, can act as sinks as well as secondary sources of trace metals and metalloids with important biological consequences. They can limit or even prevent uptake, and change the bio-availability for organisms. The binding and release of trace metals and metalloids by colloidal particles limiting the biological uptake provides control of the nutritional and toxic effects of the trace metals and metalloids to the benefit or detriment of the organism.

The surface properties of clay minerals and other colloidal minerals allow them to function as catalysts in many organic reactions (Malla et al., 1991; Sun Kou et al., 1992). They can be instrumental in pollution prevention and reduction. For instance, clay-liners have demonstrated great importance in the case of landfills to avoid migration of toxic metal ions and other organic pollutants into neighboring soil, groundwater, and surface water. Also, the use of clay to remove metal ions from wastewater is another important field (Sharma et al., 1991; Gupta et al., 1992). A further application is the remediation of polluted environments such as rivers, lakes and lagoons, where toxic metals from both natural and artificial sources become concentrated, either in fine-grained bottom sediments, or in dispersed particulate matter.

Geophagy, the deliberate intake or ingestion of soil or clay by man or animals, is known to sometimes compensate for dietary deficiencies, and is an old and generalized practice still taking place in some regions of the world.

“Clay minerals, the most abundant and chemically active components of the surface mineral world, are the key to understanding the links between nature (life), its substrate (essentially silicates), and a mastery of the total ecosystem by man”

The evolution of life from seawater theory could be supported by the similarity seen in compositions between seawater, human body serum, and human red cells, and in terms of free cations and anions present such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, chloride, bicarbonate and phosphate (Lindh, 2005a,b). Clays and clay minerals formed in terrestrial or deep sea vent hydrothermal systems rich in iron and manganese sulfides and unstable silicates, are microcrystalline and have specific properties such as layer

charge, high specific surface area, high ion exchange capacity, and high adsorption capacity. They would be an appropriate substrate for bacteria and enzymes. Concerning bacteria, interesting investigations have been carried out within the scientific domain of microbial ecology of hydrothermal systems on which life on earth could have been initiated. Understanding the relationships between Geology and Biology are the goal of Geobiology, the science that understands the earth as a system, and life as part of that system. In space and time, life influences earth development, and earth's changing environment moulds life (Noffke, 2005). On the other hand, the understanding interactions between Geology (or Geo-sciences) and Ecology are the goal of a scientific area called Geoecology, which particularly highlights the interactions between man and ecosystems. According to Hazen (2005a,b), the investigations carried out on the origin of life lead to the conclusion that minerals must have played key roles in virtually every phase of life emergence, catalyzing the synthesis of key biomolecules, and selecting, protecting and concentrating these molecules. They jump-started metabolism, and they may even have acted as first genetic systems.

Fertility of soil is largely dependent upon the activity of microorganisms.

EXCELERITE® is the richest known source of naturally chelated nutrients and minerals suspended within a natural lacustrine Montmorillonite Clay deposit located in Panaca, Nevada. Dr. Dickers studied the Panaca Source and found it to be the perfect rejuvenator for abused and over-farmed soils. He also found it to be a valuable supplement for the diets of both animals and humans to restore proper nutritional balance.

From Chernobyl to Japan: Treating Radiation Sickness with Rock Dust Written by Joanna Campe

http://remineralize.org

http://remineralize.org//blog/magazine/from-chernobyl-to-japan-treating-radiation-sickness-with-rock-dust

Many people today were not alive or do not remember the Chernobyl disaster of 1986. I remember it vividly. Just a few days after the disaster, I flew to Salzburg, Austria, to attend a banquet in honor of a very dear friend and mentor, the economic philosopher Leopold Kohr. He was receiving the keys to the city of Salzburg from the mayor and the pre-arranged banquet menu featured venison, mushrooms and berries— precisely the wild foods that had the greatest exposure to radioactive fallout. Years later I wrote a poem called The Chernobyl Feast which I read at a memorial service at Yale for Kohr.

Each day Austrians checked the newspaper to read the radiation levels of every food in order to make a choice about what to eat. The government recommended avoiding fresh foods from gardens and farms and instead eating processed foods that were packaged and canned before the disaster and were therefore not exposed to radiation. It was very eerie not to be able to eat the beautiful but invisibly and insidiously radioactive vegetables, fruits and berries in the gardens.

In the years leading up to Chernobyl, some dairy farmers in Austria were using remineralization as a part of their operations. They added rock dust to liquid manure as well as combining it with compost, thereby removing odors and greatly increasing soil biota. As a result, cows had twice the normal lifespan and produced much more milk. Amazingly enough, after Chernobyl, the cheeses that were remineralized (as well as biodynamic cheeses) measured no radioactivity whatsoever. Austrians would stand in long lines in order to buy these safe, remineralized products.

The year before Chernobyl, I co-produced a documentary in Europe on remineralization and visited some of the companies that were producing rock dust to be used specifically for agriculture and forestry, including the company of Robert Schindele. He discovered that the trees and plants on his property that were growing alongside gravel roads were stronger and healthier than the trees that were not. Schindele deduced that this was because cars driving on the gravel produced a cloud of rock dust that settled on the nearby vegetation and positively affected their growth. This led him to promote and publicize the rock dust that he produced from his quarry. It generated such success that he received constant media attention and people lined up in their cars on the road to his

Page 9: News Articles

property as if they were taking a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

At the time that I interviewed Schindele, he spoke passionately about saving the dying forests with rock dust. Many news headlines in the late 1980s focused on the dying forests, forests declining in Europe and the US due to stress from acid rain and the accumulation of heavy metals in forest soils. Remineralization neutralizes the pH, creating a buffer so that heavy metals are not taken up by the plants and trees. Dr. Robert Bruck, Ph.D., a well-known forestry pathologist, observed remarkable recoveries from air pollution effects from application of mineral slurries and/or dusts in the Black Forest.

Schindele also began taking it internally and realized it was very good for people as well, a discovery which led him to begin selling finely ground rock dust as a health supplement. He originally called his product SuperBiomin and sold it to 6,000 pharmacies in Europe. It can currently be found under the label Schindele’s Minerals and continues to be readily available in Europe.

Schindele’s product was even used in the wake of the Chernobyl disaster. Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird explain in their 1989 book Secrets of the Soil that when “the University of Vienna found that Schindele’s product worked against radioactivity–a claim confirmed by a Soviet institute for atomic physics in the Ukraine–the Soviets sent a truck to pick up two thousand kilograms of his Gesteinsmehl. Analysis under a micropolariscope revealed an alteration in the molecular and atomic lattice, which had an effect on ionized radioactive particles taken into the body” (For a more detailed description of the scientific findings, see the appendix below). Ironically, in hindsight, a Japanese film team came to Europe to document the delivery and distribution of rock dust to radiation victims for the Japanese news.

So how is it that rock dust can lower levels of radiation in the body? It may seem too good to be true, but in fact it is not so far fetched. One of RTE’s team members, dairy microbiologist Kevin Bay from Hampshire College, describes in his own words some observations of David Yarrow (2006) below:

"To achieve maintenance of homeostasis, biological organisms use highly organized structures, intricately designed from a diverse set of molecular and atomic building blocks to carry out the many tasks involved in healthy functioning. Metal ions such as minerals and trace elements are used in biological systems for such important tasks as catalyzing biological reactions and stabilizing complex protein structures. This is why it is so important for any biological system to have access to a broad spectrum of minerals and trace elements. It is also one of the root causes of radiation sickness, as the destructive atomic forces of radioactive particles alter natural metal ions, damaging the delicate biological structures in which they play an integral part.

The intelligence of Nature tends to work to maintain health. Life on earth has evolved systems to selectively incorporate healthy minerals and trace elements into biological structures, and to repair the damage done by low levels of radiation, which is a common phenomenon even in Nature. Plants, for example, will selectively uptake healthy me over radioactive particles if given the choice. However, under high levels of radioactive

Page 10: News Articles

  10

! 3!

stress such as those encountered during a nuclear disaster, those systems become stressed and cannot cope with the damage, resulting in radiation sickness. Replenishing these systems with remineralized foods or a finely ground rock dust supplement is an important part of coping with this unprecedented radioactive stress."

Given the recent disaster in northeast Japan, it is timely and urgent to get this information out on behalf of the disaster victims as well as others as the radiation circulates around the globe and throughout the biosphere, adding to our already present toxic overload. A quick study could be created to monitor a group of subjects with high levels of radiation, giving about 1 tsp 3/day of an appropriate source of rock dust (or trial various sources) over a period of 10-14 days or more, compared with a control to see if it can be shown that radiation levels are lowered and bioremediated by rock dust supplementation.

Rock dust for bioremediation is a simple, natural and inexpensive means of alleviating the impact of radiation. As history shows through the Chernobyl disaster, remineralization makes a significant difference.

Please contact us at Remineralize the Earth if any readers have contacts in Japan that would be able to make use of this information. And please add your comments below to further this discussion and proposal.

It is tremendously important to remineralize our soils as well as ourselves. That is the ultimate mission of RTE. It is quite clear that remineralization bioremediates whether for soil, animals or humans, whether radiation or other toxic contaminants.

Clay Uses - Getting Rid of Acne Once and For All

To effectively deal with any problem, you must first understand and eliminate the root cause of the problem. To tackle and obliterate the acne problem, we must understand what exactly causes acne in the first place.

What causes acne?

Oil glands are located deep in the skin. They are also known as sebaceous glands.

• Each oil gland is connected to a tiny canal that contains a hair. The canal with its contained hair is called a follicle.

• The glands produce oil (also known as sebum) that flows to the surface of the skin through these canals to lubricate the hair follicles and the surrounding skin.

• The opening of the canal with the attached hair (follicle) onto the skin is the skin pore.

Oily skin occurs when an overactive oil gland enlarges and overproduces oil. Acne develops when some of the pores (through which oil normally flows from the oil gland to reach the skin surface) become blocked, resulting in trapping of oil within the skin pores. The pores are blocked by skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the skin pore and have bunched together. A blackhead or whitehead will develop from this skin pore blockage.

What causes the sebaceous glands to overproduce, resulting in acne?

According to Randall Neustaedter, OMD, the androgenic hormones, particularly testosterone, that increase at puberty, and the surge of premenstrual hormones, trigger increased production of sebum. The pores become clogged with both sebum and dead skin cells creating a prime breeding ground for bacteria. These bacteria and the breakdown products of sebum cause irritation and

Page 12: News Articles

!

inflammation in the pores. The result is acne – blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, and cysts in the skin.

Karen Jessett, author of Clear Skin, says that food is also a factor. She states there is recent research pointing the finger at diet — eating refined carbohydrates and sugar leads to a surge in insulin and an insulin-like growth factor called IGF-1. This in turn leads to an excess of male hormones, which encourage the skin to excrete large amounts of sebum. This grease-like substance encourages the growth of bacteria responsible for acne.

Then there's the issue of hygiene. Generally speaking, acne is not caused by poor hygiene. Exceptions to this statement would be people such as auto mechanics who are often in contact this skin damaging toxins. But for most people, the problem is not poor hygiene. In fact, vigorous scrubbing of the face does more harm than good. It can actually stimulate the sebaceous glands to overproduce, thus exacerbating the problem!

So now that we understand what causes it, how do we get rid of it?

We highly recommend a tight

two-fisted approach. First, use our Excelerite Hydrated Clay facial masque daily for two weeks, then scale back to twice a week. Its amazing drawing power will help to open and clean out the pores. It removes excess sebum and is an excellent exfoliant. Excelerite has natural antibacterial properties as well, and will dramatically speed the healing of the pimples. Many times, when people begin using clay masks to combat acne, they notice that their acne appears to worsen before it improves. Don't panic if this happens to you! This is a good thing! It means that the clay is doing its job, and is pulling the toxins from your skin. Also, your face may show some redness when you remove the clay. This is very normal. Excelerite increases the blood circulation to the skin, which aids in the healing process.

But, that's only half the battle. Ran Knishinsky, author of The Clay Cure, recommends using clay internally as well. The following is an excerpt from his book:

"The condition of the skin is a good indication of what is happening inside the body. Most people are not aware that the skin is the largest organ and a means of eliminating waste; each day waste passes through the pores of the skin. Everything that affects the body in turn affects the skin. When the body is full of toxic wastes and cannot eliminate them properly, various skin ailments may result. The only effective way to get rid of these conditions is by cleaning the body inside and out.

Most acne is relatively easy to treat with the right methods--usually, a good diet and the daily ingestion of clay. My younger teenage brother got rid of bad acne within one week of eating clay. At first he said it wasn't doing too much for his skin. Then, out of the blue, he called me and frantically asked me to bring over another jar of "dirt." He had run out of the clay for a couple of days, and his pimples returned.

The clay enriches and cleanses the blood, prompting better circulation and allowing the skin to

!

get rid of waste."

It's essential to battle the acne at its source, which is INSIDE the body. Dr. James Meschine, DC, writes:

"To understand the relationship between detoxification, intestinal cleansing and prevention of acne, we must first understand the relationship between our skin, the digestive system and excretory system.

AUTOINTOXICATION (also known as autotoxicosis , enterotoxication, intestinal intoxication, intestinal toxemia or self-poisoning) which means the toxins released by the decay process, brought on by bacteria, pass into the blood stream and travel to all parts of the body. Every cell in the body can be affected and many forms of sickness can result from it, including acne and other skin eruptions. Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin."

So, in addition to our Excelerite® Facial Masque, we highly recommend using our Micro Excelerite®

pills internally. We suggest taking 1-2 pills a day for two weeks, then increasing to 3-4 pills a day. And if you're taking any medication, it is recommended to wait 1-3 hours before taking the pills, but please check with your physician, as medications vary in time release and content.

Green Investing Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the first Earth Day. Since that time, there has been plenty of talk and interest in creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment, but until recently, there has not been a lot of action. Over the last 40 years, we have seen dramatic growth in the population and consumption on every continent, only increasing the need to be thinking about how we can continue to survive and grow without consuming our very planet. Only recently have we seen the opportunities open up for the investment world as we go from "thinking green" to "going green”

As more and more of the world’s largest purchasers are demanding evidence of sustainability practices from their suppliers, competitive advantage will go to the manufacturers and distributors that have positioned themselves as Green leaders within their industry.

Are you ready for the next steps to be taken in the investment markets in terms of green, social and impact investing? Following the bear market of late 2007 through early 2009, investors are in a new mindset. The severe breakdown in trust of Wall Street institutions and the markets have lead investors to demand a more favorable blend of outcomes-more transparency with less of a "me first" investing mentality. This is one of the key reasons green investing, along with the other 'incentive-based" investing, approaches will accelerate.

The key to the growth in green investing is not the demand for it but the new supply of opportunities in this area. The new wind, solar, fuel cell, Organic farming and alternative-energy projects demand huge capital investment. For the first time, there is actually a place to invest "green" rather than invest in companies doing their regular business "a little greener." Now that these new opportunities have finally become available to invest in, we have just recently seen the first billion-dollar venture-capital fund established strictly to invest in green/alternative-energy projects. In fact, I read an article titled "Who Will Be the Green VC Giant?" The same venture capitalists that provided the seed capitals for many of today’s most successful technology companies are now racing to secure the important green deals.

Now’s the time to start Planning for the future for you and your family, not only invest in GREEN, but to use many of the green methods and start implentmenting them to start seeing the green get back into your wallet. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Natural Safeguards Decrease With The Use Of

Herbicides and Pesticides Organically grown fruits and veggies grown show significantly higher levels of cancer-fighting antioxidants than conventionally grown foods, according to a new study of corn, strawberries and marion berries. The research suggests that pesticides and herbicides actually thwart the production of phenolics — chemicals that act as a plant's natural defense and also happen to be good for our health. Fertilizers, however, seem to boost the levels of anti-cancer compounds. .

The findings appear in the Feb. 26 print edition of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Chemical Society, the world's largest scientific society. The article was initially published Jan. 25 on the journal's website.

Flavonoids are phenolic compounds that have potent antioxidant activity. Many are produced in plants in response to environmental stressors, such as insects or competing plants.

If Aphid’s are eating the leaves of the plant then the plant produces phenolics to defend itself. "Bitter or harsh phenolics guard the plant against these pests.

The need for these natural safeguards decreases with the use of herbicides and pesticides in conventional agriculture. This decrease is reflected in the total amount of antioxidants the plants produce. "This helps explain why the level of antioxidants is so much higher in organically grown food By synthetically protecting the produce from these pests, we decrease their need to produce antioxidants. It suggests that maybe we are doing something to our food inadvertently.

Alyson Mitchell, Ph.D., a food scientist at the University of California, Davis, did testing which his results showed a significant increase in antioxidants in organic and sustainably grown foods versus conventionally grown foods. The levels of antioxidants in sustainably grown corn were 58.5 percent higher than conventionally grown corn. Organically and sustainably grown marionberries had approximately 50 percent more antioxidants than conventionally grown berries. Sustainably and organically grown strawberries showed about 19 percent more antioxidants than conventionally grown strawberries.

Antioxidant levels were highest overall in sustainably grown produce, which indicates that a combination of organic and conventional practices yields the highest levels of antioxidants. "This may reflect the balance between adequate nutrition in the form of fertilizers and external pest pressures because of the lack of pesticides and herbicides," Mitchell explains.

"Originally, the question was just really intriguing to me," says Mitchell, whose research grew naturally from a personal interest in organic foods. "I found that the higher level of antioxidants is enough to have a significant impact on health and nutrition and it's definitely changed the way I think about my food."

ADVANTAGES OF ORGANIC FOODS

Organic foods such as an organic tomato have a qualitative value which a commercial tomato could not match. The organically grown tomato has not had any pesticides used to keep its natural enemies away from them. Typically, organic farmers use a natural pesticide that is safe and does not diminish the quality of the tomato. However, a commercially grown tomato has lost a great deal of its nutrition because of the pesticides used to keep it safe from its natural enemies. Another reason to eat an organic tomato (or foods for that matter) is that organic food is picked when it is ripe versus the commercial tomato. This may seem like a small issue but it is perhaps the most important issue, which makes organic food a most invaluable tool.

Since organic food is picked when it is ripe, the food has had the ability to absorb all the trace vitamins and minerals which is sadly lacking in commercial foods. Commercial foods are picked when the vegetables are still green and do not have the opportunity to absorb all the trace vitamins and minerals which the soil offers. In essence, all the consumer is getting from the commercial grown food is filler with very little amounts of vitamins and minerals. In contrast, the organic tomato has an enormous amount of nutrition and a taste which the commercially grown tomato will not match.

Another benefit of eating organic food is that the body is getting more quality nutrition without having to eat huge amounts of food, which commercial foods could not match. We feel no matter eating Organic

or commercially grown foods the soils over decades have been depleted of most if not all of the nutrients. By adding Excelerite to the soil with over 78 nutrients and minerals, it will help feed the microbes in the soil and inturn help what’s grown in the soil.

For example, an organic tomato has the nutritional equivalent of four commercial tomatoes, thus the less amount of food a person has to consume to get all the necessary nutrition.

Just look at the loss of vitamins and minerals in fruits and vegetables today compared to 1975.

Apples: vitamin A is down 41% Sweet peppers: vitamin C is down 31% Watercress: iron is down 88% Broccoli: calcium and vitamin A are down 50% Cauliflower: vitamin C is down 45%; vitamin B1 is down 48%; and vitamin B2 is down 47% Collards greens: vitamin A is down 45%; potassium is down 60%; and magnesium is down 85%

These are the USDA’s own numbers. The vitamin and mineral content of our fruits and vegetables has dramatically plummeted — in just 34 years!

Notice that minerals like iron and magnesium have dropped by more than 80 percent. That’s from commercial farming and powerful fertilizers that practically sterilize the soil — leaving it with little to no mineral content.

If the soil doesn’t have minerals, there’s no way for vegetables to absorb them. And that answers the question of why the use of EXCELERITE® is so important!

Most effective Way to Detox Skin

Doing a program with EXCELERITE® Facial Masque to detox skin will make your skin feel refreshed, renewed, softer and smoother, dewier and healthier! However, the most important benefit is making your aging clock run backward not forward. Getting toxins out of your body is one of the most important elements of any anti aging program.

The best substance to pull toxins out of your skin is clay. Nothing can compare to clay’s ability to detox your skin. However not all clays have this property. Here’s an interesting side note about clay.

There are five known places around the world that have documented evidence of people living well over a hundred years with good health and vitality: they are located in the Himalayas in China, the Urals in Pakistan, the Caucasus in Georgia and Russia, the Andes in Peru and Ecuador, and the Panaca source in Nevada. It is interesting to note the association of deposits of a certain class of mineral rich clays at these places. There is evidence of some of these people living to 140 years of age. This unique mineral rich clay is perceived as one of the main reasons for this longevity. The agricultural crops produced in these areas taste better, grow faster, and are more resistant to diseases. Mineral rich clay is proven to enhance the enzyme production in all living organisms.

They are also used to detox because of their unique properties. Another interesting note about clays is that radioactive waste is stored packed with clay and can pull radiation out of your body. Certain types of clay after becoming hydrated with water have a negative electrical charge; anything they come into contact with that has a positive charge is pulled into them like a magnet. Most of your toxins, harmful bacterial, viruses and even radiation have a positive electrical charge thus allowing the clay to absorb them. Because of this quality anytime your using clays to Detox skin always use fresh spring water. Any water that has even traces of chemicals or toxins in it will compromise the clays ability to pull toxins out of your skin.

An excellent product to use to Detox Skin is EXCELERITE® Facial Masque. It also contains that unique rare mineral clay found at one of those five locations where a person living over a hundred is rather common. But it also contains more bio-available minerals than any other clay deposit that can be absorbed directly through the skin. It’s only available in EXCELERITE® Facial Masque and it not only will pull out toxins but will push in a vast wealth of nutrients your skin can instantly use for renewal. The anti aging effects of this product are profound. Here are some other natural ways to remove toxins from your skin.

Sweating

Your skin disposes approximately 10 percent of body toxins through sweat, thus, the need for exercise. In addition, your skin transforms toxins into water-soluble compounds that the kidney can easily remove. As such, when you detoxify your skin, you are also helping the rest of your body detoxify itself. After all, your skin serves as the gateway for toxins going in and toxins going out so it makes perfect sense to detoxify it first!

Better Immune System

When your body has been detoxified, thanks in part to detox skin processes, you promote an enhanced immune system. You are better able to fight minor infections like cold and flu since your immune system is functioning at its optimum level. Of course, you must adopt a healthy lifestyle eat the right foods, engage in moderate exercise and manage your stress which helps to promote a healthier body. And when you have a healthier body, you can delay the diseases of ageing like neurological disorders and heart illnesses.

Faster Weight Loss

If you are trying to lose weight, skin detoxification is for you. Keep in mind that fat cells are a safe place for your body to store toxins. Pulling those toxins out reduces the need for fat cells so now with some exercise you can burn them up. Also you’re going to feel better.

Delay the Onset of Aging

Toxins, free radicals and heavy metals are three of the body’s worst enemies in terms of premature ageing. Whenever you engage in skin detoxification, these harmful substances are removed from your body and exits through your skin. Ultimately, you will benefit in the form of skin that feels smoother and softer to the touch and looks younger and firmer. Plus, it does not hurt to be pampered with massages and spas once in a while!

Improve Your Quality of Life

The most important reason for skin detoxification is a better quality of life. Due to your detox skin sessions, your body will feel and look better than it did when you allowed toxins to build up in it. You will feel more energized to take on the challenges of life, maybe even go on adventures you have only previously dreamed of. All these because you decided to take care of your body from the outside going inside! Your smoother and softer skin is often just the bonus in skin detoxification. The most important thing is that you regain your good health.

Acne Face Mask: Make Your Own Acne-Face-Mask

!

!

This acne-face-mask is the best natural solution for controlling acne. Although not life-threatening, acne is a dreaded skin condition because it spoils the looks of the skin and can be difficult to control. Fortunately there are solutions. Besides being a great anti-aging product, EXCELERITE® Facial Masque is also an excellent acne facemask.

Acne develops when the sebaceous glands over-produce sebum, which is oil that your body produces to keep your skin soft and

smooth. When those glands begin to work overtime, as they do in adolescence, your skin becomes oilier. Sometimes the duct that carries this oil to the surface of your skin gets blocked; dead skin cells and sebum accumulate, forming a plug. Using an acne-face-mask for dissolving those plugs is crucial for the control of acne. If the plug stays below the surface of the skin, it is called a whitehead. If the plug enlarges and pops out of the duct, it is called a blackhead because the tip is dark. This is not dirt and will not wash away. The discoloration is due to a buildup of melanin, the dark pigment in the skin.

Sebum producing cells are found all over the body, but there are more on the face, upper chest, and back, which explain why acne usually occurs in these places.

The cause and some successful solutions for Acne

Clogged pores in the skin cause acne. The solution lies in finding a method to unplug those pores so that more severe problems don't have a chance to develop. Acne is not something to take lightly, it can cause an accumulation of deadly bacteria and inflammation and if left untreated, you could find yourself in a doctors office or worse, a surgeons office.

EXCELERITE® Facial Masque is an Acne-Face-Mask that can help pull those whiteheads and blackheads out of your skin, it can help tell the body to stop producing so much oil and put the brakes on the cycle of acne developing.

Microbes need to be fed too!

With out microbes, we would all die. The work they do in our soil is incredibly complex but it all boils down to this: microbes eat, thus we eat. Plants are unable to take from the soil the nutrition they need without microbes working in the soil. Microbes are alive, and must have nutrition to survive, and that nutrition comes from organic matter. As they consume the nutrients they need, microbes create foods like nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, phosphorus, potassium and trace minerals for our plants. It is the microbes that convert the NPK and minerals in the soil into a form our plants can use to grow and produce food and flowers for us. Microbes Microbes are everywhere. They are in the air, in the rivers and oceans, in our drinking water, in the soil, and on our skin. Of course we know some microbes are bad, like e. coli and salmonella, but more are considered beneficial and out-compete pathogens for survival in the soil. There are all kinds of microbes, like algae, protozoa, bacteria and fungi, with many others waiting to be discovered. Their populations in soil are numerous: as many as one billion of up to 13,000 species can reside in a single gram of soil.[1] (1 gram = 0.0022 pounds, so maybe a teaspoon?) Most microbes need organic carbon to live; they get this from eating wood chips, leaves, manures and other organic materials added to the soil. As microbes digest organic matter, they create humus which increases soil structure, good for root penetration and development. (Compaction can nullify much of this action.) Microbes also get some carbon from the rhizosphere (the area immediately around plant roots) because roots give off substances the microbes can use, like sugars and amino acids... and then the microbes convert some of it back in forms the plants can use, as minerals, vitamins, nitrogen and amino acids. (Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Humans need 20 amino acids to make muscle, hair, skin, and connective tissue, and human bodies only make 10 of them. The others must be supplied by food from plants and animals.[2]) Many garden products are available containing beneficial microbes for the soil. Some are in the fast-acting form of foliar sprays, and some are home-brewed compost teas used to spray or drench. In all cases, foliar sprays are not enough; there must also be organic matter continually available in the soil for the microbes to eat. The leaves, compost and/or manure you added last summer need continual replenishment.

Microbes multiply, and if your microbe population is low due to lack of organic matter, amending the soil with organic matter and allowing time for microbial growth can easily rectify it. Jump-starting the reproduction of microbes by adding beneficial microbes along with organic matter is an option depending on how soon you want to see results, and the cost. !!We can readily say that microbes are the workhorses of our gardens. Microbes make nutrients in the soil available to plants in a form the plants can use. Microbes create some of those nutrients, and we (with Nature’s help) add the rest. Because the plants are healthier, they resist disease better, and tolerate environmental stress better. Microbes improve soil structure by the humus they create while digesting organic matter. Microbes help in nitrogen fixing. ! Beneficial processes often attributed to soil microbes:

Soil microbes may play a role in the processes below under suitable conditions for their growth:

• Recycle nutrients in, or added to, soil • Contribute to aggregate stabilization • Help to solubilize some nutrients, for example Phosphorus. • Fix N2 under appropriate conditions • Mycorrhizal fungi help plants explore soil for nutrients and water • Afford some natural protection from disease, a "rhizosphere effect" • Degrade contaminants, e.g., pesticides, spilled hydrocarbons, etc. ! How many are there; how much biomass? There are countless microbes in soils and literally tons of microbial biomass in normal, healthy turf grass systems, including sand-based systems. Grasslands have long been known to support large populations of soil microbes. Some figures for numerical abundance and microbial biomass of various microbial groups are listed in Table 2. For perspective, one gram of soil is about the size a kidney bean in the palm of your hand.

Table 2. Numbers and biomass values for the major groups of microbes found in soil.

While it is true that fertilizers may inflict some harm on microbes directly exposed to granules or to anhydrous ammonia, the overall effect of fertilizer applications is to markedly increase microbial numbers and activity in soil through increased plant growth. We have known this for decades! Increasing the soil food web infrastructure enables nutrition for the plants and a multitude of soil building organisms, such as earthworms and a variety of beneficial insects. These in turn feed higher life forms such as birds and mammals. Nature's food chain is supported and sustained. This is why we call Natures Own Growing System a "Soil Activation System".

Natures Own Growing System Microbe Tea organisms take up residence on plant surfaces and leave no room for pathogenic organisms to grow. When applied to the soils, they consume anaerobic bacteria and pathogenic fungi in the process of transforming mineral and organic material into food for the plants. This is why The System can reduce or eliminate powdery / downy mildew, early / late blight, phytopthora, verticillium, black spot, botrytis, anthracnose and leaf curl. This process is like a cascading natural domino effect, causing all the other beneficial soil life forms to have a much higher level of activity as they feast on Natures Own Growing System's microbes, which are applied on a periodic basis to soil and plant surfaces. The benefits derived from all these beneficial life forms in the soils are greatly increased, as their numbers and activity increase. This is true soil activation at work! Plants benefit from higher levels of available food (minerals chelated with amino acids produced by bacteria, for example), and from the higher numbers of beneficial organisms present and active around, inside and on the plants. pH Imbalance Most of our diets include so many refined, processed foods and sugar. Not to mention having to deal with the chemical pollutants in the air we breathe and the food we eat. I believe these factors and excessive stress are the main reasons that the occurrence of disease continues to escalate. Have you ever wondered if many of the diseases raging through our society have a common cause? Many doctors, herbalists and nutritionists believe that the explanation may come down to these simple words: pH Imbalance

Disease is our body's way of telling us that something is out of balance. It is a cry for help. I believe that our bodies are capable of healing themselves when given the right tools, care and attention. The problem in our society is that we tend to address the symptoms of the imbalances, instead of treating the causes.

Acid Alkaline Imbalance

Over acidity, which can become a dangerous condition that weakens all body systems, is very common today. It gives rise to an internal environment conducive to disease, as opposed to a pH balanced environment which allows normal body function necessary for the body to resist disease. A healthy body maintains adequate alkaline reserves to meet emergency demands. When excess acids must be neutralized our alkaline reserves are depleted leaving the body in a weakened condition. A pH balanced diet, according to many experts, is a vital key to health maintenance. The amount of processed and refined foods we consume has continued to increase over the last several decades including foods treated with preservatives, chemicals, pesticides and hormones. Not only are the chemicals creating havoc and toxicity in our systems, but the continual consumption of the processed and refined foods is also throwing off the delicate pH balance of our bodies.

In this remarkable book Alkalize or Die, Dr. Theodore A. Baroody says:

The countless names of illnesses do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause...too much tissue acid waste in the body!—Theodore A. Baroody, N.D., D.C., Ph.D.

That's why it's essential to balance your pH consistently. MICRO EXCELERITE® has a pH balance is 6.7 to 7.3. The closer you get to this point, the healthier you will be. However, if you have too low of a pH level, you may be experiencing some serious health issues.

These health problems could include low energy and fatigue, irregular bowels, joint stiffness, sore muscles, lack of sexual drive and potency, sleep difficulties, memory loss, premature aging, poor circulation, breathing problems and even a weakened heart.

Recent studies show that too much acid can wreck your enzyme balance. That means vitamins; minerals and nutrients are not absorbed properly. But the good news is, you can take MICRO EXCELERITE® supplements to help you fight over acidity and balance your pH effectively.

Balance Your pH Naturally And Enjoy Vibrant Living!

MICRO EXCELERITE® users routinely report:

Higher energy levels Stronger immunity Regular elimination Improved digestion Less joint pain Better breathing Deeper sleep Reduced acid reflux Great blood pressure Normal cholesterol Sharper memory Dozens of other benefits

Fact #1—Most Americans are at significant risk for over acidity due to poor diet. Fact #2—Acid can build up in your body quickly and without you realizing it. Fact #3—Your body can't handle over acidity over the long haul without developing serious health problems. Fact #4—In order to stay healthy, you need to restore the balance between acid and alkaline levels in your cells, and tissues. Fact #5—Natural alkaline solutions like MICRO EXCELERITE® can help you achieve optimum pH balance

pH (potential of hydrogen) is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. It is measured on a scale of 0 to 14—the lower the pH the more acidic the solution, the higher the pH the more alkaline (or base) the solution. When a solution is neither acid nor alkaline it has a pH of 7, which is neutral.

Water is the most abundant compound in the human body, comprising 70% of the body. The body has an acid-alkaline (or acid-base) ratio called the pH, which is a balance between positively charges ions (acid-forming) and negatively charged ions (alkaline-forming.) The body continually strives to balance pH. When this balance is compromised many problems can occur.

It is important to understand that we are not talking about stomach acid or the pH of the stomach. We are talking about the pH of the body's fluids and tissues, which is an entirely different matter.

Most people who suffer from unbalanced pH are acidic. This condition forces the body to borrow minerals—including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium—from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body. Because of this strain, the body can suffer severe and prolonged damage due to high acidity—a condition that may go undetected for years.

Mild acidosis can cause such problems as:

• Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen.

• Weight gain, obesity and diabetes. • Bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones. • Immune deficiency. • Acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations. • Hormone concerns. • Premature aging. • Osteoporosis; weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs. • Joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup. • Low energy and chronic fatigue. • Slow digestion and elimination. • Yeast/fungal overgrowth.

What is Acidosis? Acidosis is a condition in which there is excessive acid in the body fluids. It is the opposite of alkalosis (a condition in which there is excessive base in the body fluids).

Test Your Body's Acidity or Alkalinity with pH Strips:

It is recommended that you test your pH levels to determine if your body's pH needs immediate attention. By using pH test strips, you can determine your pH factor quickly and easily in the privacy of your own home. If your urinary pH fluctuates between 6.0 to 6.5 in the morning and between 6.5 and 7.0 in the evening, your body is functioning within a healthy range. If your saliva stays between 6.5 and 7.5 all day, your body is functioning within a healthy range. The best time to test your pH is about one hour before a meal and two hours after a meal. Test your pH two days a week.

Two ways to test

1. Urine pH

Urine testing may indicate how well your body is excreting acids and assimilating minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. These minerals function as "buffers." Buffers are substances that help maintain and balance the body against the introduction of too much acidity or too much

A recent seven-year study conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, on 9,000 women showed that those who have chronic acidosis are at greater risk for bone loss than those who have normal pH levels. The scientists who carried out this experiment believe that many of the hip fractures prevalent among middle-aged women are connected to high acidity caused by a diet rich in animal foods and low in vegetables. This is because the body borrows calcium from the bones in order to balance pH. — American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

!

alkalinity. Even with the proper amounts of buffers, acid or alkaline levels can become extreme. When the body ingests or produces too many of these acids or alkalis, it must excrete the excess. The urine is the perfect way for the body to remove any excess acids or alkaline substances that cannot be buffered. If the average urine pH is below 6.5 the body's buffering system is overwhelmed, a state of "autotoxication" exists, and attention should be given to lowering acid levels.

2. Saliva pH

The results of saliva testing may indicate the activity of digestive enzymes in the body. The stomach, liver and pancreas primarily manufacture these enzymes. While the saliva also utilizes buffers just like the urine, it relies on this process to a much lesser degree. If the saliva pH is too low (below 6.5), the body may be producing too many acids or may be overwhelmed by acids because it has lost the ability to adequately remove them through the urine. If the saliva pH is too high (over 6.8), the body may suffer greatly, e.g. excess gas, constipation and production of yeast, mold and fungus. Some people will have acidic pH readings from both urine and saliva—this is referred to as "double acid."

The Good News We can begin to reverse this depletion process by replenishing the electrolyte minerals in our bodies. By eating more pH-alkaline forming foods (fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, fresh juices, sprouted seeds, alkaline grains), we can also begin to use MICRO EXCELERITE® to help maintain a balanced pH.

pH Balance Chart

Note that a food's acid or alkaline-forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end-products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so lemons are alkaline-forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion but it leaves very acidic residue in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid-forming

EARTHWORMS

The Benefits improve the physical structure of the soil

1) Improve water filtration rates and absorption rates helping the soil to drain better. Less runoff equals less watering and less erosion.

2) Tunneling activity improves soil aeration, porosity, and permeability.

3) Increase moisture absorption and moisture available to plants.

Castings absorb water faster than soil; castings hold more water than equivalent amounts of soil. Bhawalker Earthworm Research Institute.

4) Castings have the ability to absorb moisture from the air and hold it in a manner that plants can use. Bhawalker Earthworm Research Institute.

5) 25 earthworms per square foot of soil equal 1 million earthworms per acre. Studies in England have shown that in healthy soil forty tons of castings per acre pass through earthworms bodies daily. A new USA study indicates 1½ million worms per acre, which move 20 tons of earth each year.

6) Studies have shown that with good food sources and favorable conditions, a field might have over 100 night crawlers per square yard. National Soil Tilth Lab.

7) One earthworm can digest 36 tons of soil in one year. US Soil Conservation Office.

8) The tunneling activity of worms helps breakup hardpan and other compacted soils.

9) Studies have shown that 30% of a field’s respiration during cold wet winter-spring months is due to earthworms.

10) A study in European orchards found that earthworms could increase the pore space in soil by 75-100% and that earthworm burrows accounted for of soils air-filled pores. Earthworm Ecology and Biogeography in North America, 1995.

11) Improve soil fertility.

12) Bring up minerals from deep in the subsurface that are often in short supply in surface layers.

13) Earthworm activity counteracts leaching by bringing up nutrients from deep in the soil and depositing them on the soil's surface as castings.

14) The burrows also allow roots to easily go down deeper into the soil and get nutrients they could not ordinarily reach.

15) Removes litter from soil surface - earthworms eat the litter and leave the nutrients in their castings for plants to use as a natural fertilizer that is non-polluting.

16) Help compost residues and waste products, bacteria in a worm's gut help destroy harmful chemicals and breakdown organic wastes.

17) Create fertile root channels - the mucus lining of abandoned burrows are an excellent source of nutrients.

18) Make plant nutrients more available, worms concentrate minerals in their castings in a form that is easy for plants to absorb.

19) Earthworms chelate nutrients, making minerals available to plants that would otherwise be in a form that would be chemically unavailable.

20) Worms stimulate microbial populations; nitrogen fixing bacteria are more numerous near earthworm burrows and in their castings. One study on bacteria and actinomycetes found densities from 10-1,000 times greater. Earthworm Ecology and Biogeography in North America, 1995.

21) Plant growth stimulants such as Auxins are produced in the castings; these hormones stimulate roots to grow faster and deeper.

22) Worms neutralize soil pH, cast analysis shows that the product coming out of the back end of a worm is closer to neutral than what goes in the front end.

23) Analysis of earthworm castings reveal that they are richer in nutrients than surrounding soil, often 3 times more calcium, several times more nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. K.P. Barley Advances in Agronomy, Vol. 13, 1961.

24) Nitrogen fixing bacteria live in the gut of earthworms and in earthworm casts and higher nitrogenous activity, meaning greater rates of nitrogen fixation are found in casts as compared to surrounding soil.

25) One study found that earthworms are responsible for passing nitrogen to the soil at a rate of 100 Kg N per ha per year. Earthworm Ecology and Biogeography in North America, 1995.

26) The earthworms gut is a natural bioreactor, which increases the beneficial microbial density in the material it excretes to 1,000 times that of the surrounding soil. Worm Digest, winter 1994.

27) Improve plant growth and health.

28) Tests have shown that crops grown in earthworm-inhabited soil increased yields from 25% to over 300% than in earthworm-free soil. K.P. Barley Advances in Agronomy, vol. 13, 1961, p. 262-264.

29) Earthworms help eliminate thatch in lawns and grassy areas by eating and digesting the plant debris.

30) Studies have shown that soils rich in earthworms have less of the harmful nematodes.

31) Earthworms create soil conditions that discourage populations of soil organisms such as insects, nematodes and others that are harmful to plants.

32) By passing soil and organic matter through their bodies, gradually make acid soil less acid and alkaline soil less alkaline. The Rodale Book of Composting, 1993.

33) A recent study found that earthworm produced compost (vermi-compost) dramatically increases germination and growth in many plants. Adding only 5% of the compost to commercial growing media (95%) significantly increased plant growth. Dr. Clive Edwards, Ohio State University, Nursery Management & Production, January 1995.

34) Research has shown that twice as many roots grew in pure worm castings than in sphagnum. Dr. Clive Edwards, Ohio State University.

35) Many species of earthworms actually eat the bad microbes (fungi, bacteria, etc.) that are plant pathogens and in the process they also increase the good beneficial microbes.

36) It has recently been discovered that in feeding, earthworms consume spores of

mycorrhizal; a beneficial fungi that help roots take up nutrients. These spores are deposited in the worm castings, deep in their burrows, where roots easily find them as they grow. The Avent Gardener, p. 87, 1995.

37) Studies have shown that earthworms can increase barley yields 78-96%, spring wheat and grass yields 400%, and clover yields 1,000%, and peas and oats by 70%. Other studies found that yields were increased for millet, soybeans, lima beans, and hay. Studies in New Zealand found that earthworms at least doubled yields in all cases and adding worms to crops has become standard agricultural practice. Earthworm Ecology and Biogeography in North America, 1995.

38) Experiments at Tennessee Technological University found that 10% vermi-compost in a potting mix improved the germination of seeds of low viability (Echinacea purpurea) by 43%.

39) Researchers at Oregon State University have found that a tea made from the worm castings speeds up the sprouting of hard to germinate seeds following a 1 hour soaking.

40) A large earthworm population suppresses weed growth.

41) The tunneling activity of earthworms prevents many of the conditions that weed seeds need to germinate.

42) Earthworms often eat weed seeds and either destroy them or reduce their ability to germinate.

43) Earthworms stimulate the growth of microorganisms in the soil and these microorganisms destroy some weed seeds.

44) Some microorganisms (bacteria and fungus whose growth is stimulated by worms) live in a symbiotic relationship with plant roots and help plants grow better hence shading out weeds and out competing them for water and nutrients.

45) Worms often help clean up dangerous chemicals in the environment.

46) Researchers have found that bacteria living in the guts of worm’s breakdown (detoxify) many hazardous chemicals such as hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH), organic gardening may/June 1993.

47) Microbes living in worms have the ability to breakdown complex organic molecules like cellulose and lignin.

48) Improve water absorption and prevent erosion.

49) Increase the water stability of the soil, earthworm castings can take a direct hit by a raindrop and maintain their shape, this reduces erosion and runoff hence helps the soil absorb water.

50) A research study conducted in Minnesota showed that earthworms added to cornfields increased water absorption rates 35 times over control fields without the earthworms, within a 6-week period. Acres USA, March 1994.

51) Soil in a field with 100 night crawlers per square yard, 2 inches of water (a very heavy rainfall) could be absorbed by the soil in 12 minutes. The same soil without earthworms took over 12 hours to absorb that much water. National Soil Tilth Lab.

52) If the top 3 feet of soil contained 25% macrospores (earthworm burrows) then that soil should be able to absorb at least a 9 inch rainfall without runoff. Natural Food & Farming, July/August 1991.

53) One study showed that on a sloping field with no-till practices, there were 155 earthworms’ holes per square yard and an average runoff of 0.08 inches per year. This compares to a tilled field with 6 holes per square yard and 4.9 inches of runoff per year. The average rainfall for this area is 39.4 inches. Natural Food & Farming, July/August 1991.

54) Scientists from the Agricultural Research Service found that grass and leave mulched plots had twice as many earthworms as those mulched with cornstalks. Water penetrated the earthworm filled soil up to 4 times faster.

55) Chemicals produced in the earthworm cause the castings to form aggregates in the soil that are resistant to erosion.

56) Studies have shown that earthworms in soils can easily triple infiltration rates and cut run-off in half. Earthworms in Agro ecosystems, 1995.

57) Some scientists now believe that earthworms have the potential to eliminate soil erosion! This could save society billions of dollars in erosion control, reduce pollution from dangerous synthetic chemicals and improve the environment.

58) In an acre of good soil researchers have found more than 1 million worms and 1,200 miles of earthworm holes or burrows.

59) Earthworms are valuable.

60) One million earthworms per acre are about 25 earthworms per square foot of soil. If

one had 1 night crawler per square foot at a value of $1.00 per dozen then one would have $3,630 worth of earthworms. Full retail value of one million earthworms would be over $83,000. If earthworms would work only 100 days per year and eat their weight of soil and/or residues daily, then at that rate with 1 ton of earthworms per acre you would have 100 tons of earthworm manure (castings) per acre per year. This is about 2/3-inch deep layer over an entire acre of land. Natural Food & Farming, July/August 1991.

61) One million earthworms will have burrows, which will have the equivalent space of 4,000 feet of 6-inch drain tile. At an installed price of $1.20 per foot for drain tile, those burrows are worth $4,800 per acre. Natural Food & Farming, July/August 1991.

62) Soil samples from a field not fertilized for 5 years but with an active earthworm population were analyzed. Based on the reported analyses it was found that 100 tons of earthworm castings would contain 4 lbs. of nitrate nitrogen, 30 lbs. of phosphorus, 73 lbs. of potassium, 90 lbs. of magnesium, 500 lbs. of calcium. That is the equivalent to a 4-69-86 fertilizer and 3/4 ton of limestone worth $34.15 per acre with no fee for spreading or transportation.

63) Research presented at the ISEE 5 (International Symposium on Earthworm Ecology at Ohio State University) points at earthworms being an important biomedical resource. It has been found that ingredients from earthworms have anti-cancer properties.

64) The bodies of earthworms are extremely nutrient rich from minerals to amino acids, proteins and vitamins. When earthworms die these nutrients are released into the soil.

How to attract and promote earthworms

• Mulch all soil with organic mulches, which help stabilize soil temperature and moisture.

• Mulch provides food and shelter for earthworms. Compost is an excellent mulch and as a soil amendment to attract (food source) earthworms.

• DO NOT USE DANGEROUS SYNTHETIC CHEMICALS: Agricultural chemicals such as salt based fertilizers (i.e. 13-13-13), pesticides, etc. can kill earthworms. Even if a few pesticides do not kill earthworms, such as DDT, birds are killed when they eat the worms. Pesticide Reviews, Vol. 57, 1975.

• Earthworms and other beneficial mcroorganisms are destroyed by synthetic chemical fertilizers and fungicides, pesticides, etc. (Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1992). In the absence of earthworms, the soil becomes lifeless, sterile, and nutrient deficient.

• Studies have found that most organic fertilizers tend to have a positive effect on earthworms and increase population densities. Earthworm Ecology and Biogeography in North America, 1995.

• Soils that are not tilled have 3-4 times as many night crawlers (surface feeding earthworms) as soils that are tilled in the spring or fall. Tilling greatly accelerates the breakdown of organic matter in the soil that worms need. National Soil Tilth Lab

• Studies have shown that mulches produced from grass cuttings or leaves have twice the earthworm population than course mulches from straw or corn stalks, etc. National Soil Tilth Lab

• Mulches made from wood wastes that have lots of "fines" or small particles sizes are easier for worms to use (swallow and eat). The increased particle surface area of the small sizes also allows for greater microbial activity that is preferred by worms.

• Rough (unfinished) compost is one of the best worm-food mulches there is. The Avant Gardener, p. 87, 1995.

Types of earthworms • Over 3,000 worm species have been identified.

Experts disagree as to what distinguishes one type of worm from another and if one species is a true earthworm or not. All soil worms are beneficial and most references lump all soil worms into the category of "earthworms".

• Two basic types of worms, those that feed on the surface and those that feed in the subsurface. The surface feeders eat plant residue, are generally large worms and live in vertical burrows often over 6' deep. Subsurface feeders are smaller than surface feeders like night crawlers but outnumber them 9 to 1. They eat their way through the subsurface loosing, aerating and improving soil structure in the process.

• When worms are separated into "worms" and "earthworms" then following applies: Red worms, often called manure worms, brandling worm, or red wigglers, they are reddish brown in color, they live in the soil in the surface layer of decaying vegetation (litter). They feed on this layer, multiplying rapidly in numbers, expand into poorer surrounding soil and die thereby distributing the nutrients contained in the excess wastes over a larger area. Often used in small-scale worm bins. Eisenia foetida and Lumbricus rubellus (tends to be more soil dwelling if large amounts of organic material are in the soil) are examples of red worm species.

• Earthworms, often called soil processing worms, they are a burrower, a soil processor, eating dead organics and rock particles, grinding and excreting them as a finely ground mix which serves as food for bacteria. They tend to survive in harsh conditions better than red worms. They do not assimilate the organics to the same extent as red worms for themselves; hence they do not multiple as quickly as red worms whose assimilation rates are much higher. The higher rate of assimilation (red worms) means that the

nutrients consumed by the red worms goes into building their own biomass while the earthworm passes on these nutrients in a soluble form in their casting.

• Pheretima elongata, deep burrowing earthworm used in Bombay India to convert garbage into vermicompost. Recommended by Uday Bhawalker (Bhawalker Earthworm Research Institute) as the most efficient organic waste converts conversion occur at the soil surface, not in a bin hence less material handling is required.

• Lumbricus terrestris, called night crawlers, dew worms, rain worm, orchard worm, etc. They like soil temperatures less than 50°F. They are also dig burrows and do not like to have their burrows disturbed. They come to the surface to feed on dead grass leaves etc. drawing them into their burrow hence taking organic matter deep into the soil layer. A good garden worm.

• Garden worms, Allolobophora caliginosa, A. chloritica, Aporrectodea turgida, A. tuberculata, etc. often found in pastures.

• Most worms found in U.S. soils are not native.

• Some earthworms from the southern hemisphere can grow 3-5' long, 1" in diameter and weigh up to 1.3 pounds.

• Earthworms have many uses from soil farmer to food for animals. Most recently they are being used as a diagnostic tool since they have the ability to hyper accumulate toxins and environmental pollutants found in the soil (since they ingest soil). As a result they are often collected and their tissue analyzed for chemical contaminants.

WORM SPECIES: Allolobophora chlorotica - the green worm, native to U.S. Aporrectodea rosea - the pink soil worm, native to U.S. Aporrectodea trapezoides - the southern worm, native to U.S. Aporrectodea turgida - the pasture worm, native to U.S. Bimastos tumidus - often found in compost piles, tolerates medium C: N ratios and cooler temperatures better than Eisenia foetida, multiplies rapidly in old straw and spoiled hay, hardy to Z-5 and will survive in ordinary soil conditions hence once established it would survive without extensive preparations. Earthworm Math 25 earthworms/sq. ft. = 1 ton of worms/acre 1 ton worms = 100 tons of castings or _" manure (castings) on surface per acre Macro pore equivalent to 4,000ft. of 6" tile drain pipe per acre Nutrients added to 1 acre of soil each year: 4 lbs of nitrate of nitrogen 30 lbs of phosphorus 72 lbs of potash 90 lbs of magnesium 500 lbs of calcium or in terms of a fertilizer analysis = 4-68-96 plus 3/4 ton of limestone for a nutrient value of $34.15/acre

Castings weigh about 800 lbs/CY

Proper pH is important, but not often a problem. Worms can tolerate from 4.5 to 8.5, or higher on your pH scale, but 6.5 to 7 are optimal. If too acidic, you can correct conditions with agricultural or garden lime. Hydrated lime will kill your worms. If too alkaline, use agricultural sulfur. Remember make all changes gradually.

Earthworm predators: Artioposthia triangulata - "flatworm", from New Zealand, destroying earthworms in Great Britain, worm is dark brown, flattened with cream speckled margins, likes moist conditions with moderate to cool temperatures. Australoplana sanguinea - "flatworm", from Australia, destroying earthworms in Great Britain, tolerates warmer and drier conditions than A. triangulata.

Montmorillonite is known for its highly absorptive properties and its ability to draw out and bind heavy metals, drugs and other toxins from the body. This clay has been used for thousands of years as both an internal and external purification aid. Our material has been used for over 60 years, there’s nothing new about this material. It’s just been kept as one of the best-kept health secrets for years. Now we have decided to show that we what to help others help themselves by offering our Micro Excelerite®direct from the Panaca Source mine. To show that we are here to help, we are offering our new 2011 prices and a guaranteed along with it. Nutritional supplements should deliver noticeable results. Our commitment to noticeable results is the foundation of the Biomultimin philosophy.

Micro Excelerite® contains more than 78 trace minerals and elements. By mixing our unique Calcium Montmorillonite clay with water either internally or externally the expanded particles develop into a large surface, which enables them to pick up many times their own weight of various body toxins. This wide surface is made of a great number of tiny platelets, each with a negative electrical attraction for positively charged toxins. Montmorillonite clay’s negative charge is responsible for its amazing detoxifying properties: it is a magnet for many toxic elements present in the human body (heavy metals, pesticides, and free radicals), which are positively charged. This physical pulling power of Pure Calcium Montmorillonite Clay also has an absorbent action (like sticky paper) as toxins are drawn into the porous surface of the clay. Clay is renowned to have many uses in promoting health in plants, animals and people. Pure Calcium Montmorillonite, as well as other types of healing clays, has been used by indigenous cultures since before recorded history. When hydrated, it generates and maintains a very strong electromagnetic field, which allows it to attract and hold unwanted, non-nutritive substances such as pesticides and other toxins so that they can be eliminated from the body.

Living Clay releases its vital force into the physical body and mingles with the vital energy of the body, creating a stronger, more powerful energy in the host.

Clay molecules carry a negative electrical charge while toxins; bacteria and other impurities carry a positive charge. The positively charged toxins are attracted to the negatively charged surfaces of the clay molecule. An exchange reaction occurs in which the clay mineral ions are swapped for the ions of the toxic substance. The clay molecule is now electrically satisfied and holds onto the toxin.

Try a bottle of Micro Excelerite® or our Excelerite purifying Facial masque ® and feel the difference. With our Feel the difference guaranteed, if you do not feel and see the difference within 4 weeks after following our instructions, send it back for a full refund.

Micro Excelerite® - The clay that can heal your body

‘In the beginning God gave to every people a cup of clay; and, from this cup they drank their life’. We have, long, heard of people eating clay known as either ‘geophagy’ (pronounced…gee-off-uh-gee), or, ‘pica’. Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary defines geophagy as ‘a condition in which the patient eats inedible substances such as chalk, or earth’. And, it defines pica as ‘a perversion of appetite with cravings for substances not fit for food such as clay, ashes or plaster’.

This craving I perceive is not perverted at all; but makes sense when you know what clay contains and what it does for the body. It has been credited with improving the health of many people suffering from a wide range of illnesses. These include: constipation, diarrhea, anemia, chronic infections and ‘outfections’, skin ailments (such as eczema and acne), heavy-metal poisoning, exposure to pesticides (and other, acidic, toxins), arthritis, acid reflux, infertility, liver disease and obesity. It is the ‘secret ingredient’ in the treatment of hair-loss and diabetes, (both Type I and Type II)! Clay provides an impressive assortment of minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, sodium and silica -- all alkalizing to the blood and tissues and foundational in the production of other elements through nuclear transformations or biological transformations. The minerals in this very special clay exist in natural proportion to one another. This encourages their absorption by the intestinal villi.

The body can tolerate a deficiency of vitamins for a longer period of time than a deficiency of minerals. A slight change in the blood concentration of important minerals can rapidly endanger life! In a clay mineral the elements of oxygen, silica, and potassium are spheres arranged in a regular three-dimensional pattern. The spheres are the building blocks of the clay minerals; and, the arrangement of the spheres determines the type of mineral. The character of the clay mineral group determines the type of clay and its eventual use. In other words, the clay mineral structure gives an understanding of its specific properties. Among the clays suitable for eating, is Montmorillonite, the most common and the most sought-after. Montmorillonite clay was named after the town of Montmorillon, France where it was first identified. The mineral clay belongs to a group of clays known as smectite, a word that describes its layered structure. The smectites are one of seven clay mineral groups. Each group contains a certain number of species and variations on the layered structure. The clay that I recommend is structured in a single silica tetrahedron and is the main building block of Montmorillonite clay and the best clay for eating. Montmorillonite Clay is an old Home-Remedy that people have used since the beginning of time for various reasons. And it is my personal belief that Montmorillonite Clay was possibly the Manna that was given to the children of Israel by God as they wandered through the wilderness for 40 years. Its origins are as simple and basic as the old practice of putting mud on a bee sting. Montmorillonite Clay comes from deposits near Montmorillon, France and is also found in Panaca, NV. Geologically speaking, Montmorillonite Clay is a volcanic ash, which was deposited in seawater. By modern definition it is swelling-type clay in its ‘natural’ state with no additives, chemicals or preservatives. The only processing it undergoes is crushing. What Makes Montmorillonite Clay So Special? The Montmorillonite Clay minerals occur in very small or colloidal particles. They are extremely fine-grained and thin-layered…more so than any of the other clay minerals. The layers contain ions that are very loosely, bound to one another…and, easily exchangeable. Not only will acidic toxins stick to its outside surface; but, numerous toxic elements and organic matter will enter the space between the layers. In addition to its already unique structure, Montmorillonite Clay has a particularly large surface area when properly hydrated with distilled water…which further boosts its adsorptive and absorptive properties These two words look alike but their difference is critical in understanding the functions of Montmorillonite Clay minerals. Adsorption characterizes the process by which substances stick to the outside surface of the adsorbent medium. The clay possesses unsatisfied ionic bonds around the edges of its mineral particles. It naturally seeks to satisfy those bonds. For this to happen it must meet with a substance carrying an opposite electrical or ionic charge. When this occurs, the ions held around the outside structural units of the adsorbent medium and the substance are exchanged. The particles of Montmorillonite Clay carry a negative, electrical charge; whereas, impurities or toxins carry a positive electrical charge. For this very reason Montmorillonite Clay has been used to adsorb the colloidal impurities (alcohol and other exotoxins and mycotoxins) in beer, wine, liquor, and cider. The impurities in wine carry positive charges; and, can be chelated or coagulated (bound together) and removed by stirring a small amount of negatively charged

Montmorillonite Clay material into the wine or beer. The clay particles attract the mycotoxins or alcohol in the wine or beer and they settle to the bottom of the bottle or glass together. The process works the same in the human body. When Montmorillonite Clay is taken internally the positively charged exotoxins and mycotoxins are attracted by the negatively charged edges of the clay mineral. An exchange reaction occurs; whereby, the clay swaps its ions for those of the other substance. Now electrically satisfied it holds the acidic toxin in suspension until the body can eliminate both. The term ‘active’ or ‘alive’ indicates the ionic exchange capacities of a given clay mineral. The degrees to which the clay mineral ions become active determine its classification as ‘alive’. Living bodies are able to grow and change their form and function by taking within themselves ‘lifeless’ material of certain kinds; and, biologically transforming it into a part of themselves. No dead body can adsorb just as no dead battery can provide energy. It is, physically impossible. That is why Montmorillonite Clay is such a powerful substance. IT IS ALIVE!!!!! Chemically and structurally Montmorillonite Clay is shaped like a credit card with negative charges on the flat surface and positive charges at the edges. Therefore, the negative charge is many times more powerful than the positive charge. One gram of Montmorillonite Clay has a surface area of 800 square meters. To give that some serious perspective that's about ten football fields! The greater the surface area of the clay the greater the power to pick up positively charged particles or acidic toxins many times its own weight. If we go back to our base physical components we can safely say that we are built from multitudes of particles (from dust you are and to dust you will return) held together by electrical bonds. Electrical forces are what hold atoms and molecules together. Chemical bonds and reactions depend on the electrical forces. Therefore, all chemical reactions are in essence reorganization of electrical forces, which continue to be vital at body levels, i.e., tissues and organs. When this is all taken into account a living organism is shown to be an extremely intricate electrical system. During sickness or disease the vital life force is weak and incapable of supporting the body and its functions. In health and fitness however the opposite occurs: the life force or ‘zeta potential’ is strong and able to counteract sickness and disease (or, should I say spoiling and rotting). What keeps the white blood cells moving and doing their work of clearing out toxins is the energy that feeds it, the substance of life – the ‘zeta potential’. The body will not run well; or, will at least run with all sorts of mechanical problems when there is no life-force energy or ‘zeta potential’ to support it. When Montmorillonite Clay is consumed its vital life force or ‘zeta potential’ is released into the physical body; and, mingles with the vital life force of the body creating a stronger, more powerful energy in the host. Its, colloidal particles are agents of stimulation and transformation capable of withholding and releasing energy at impulse. The natural magnetic action transmits a remarkable power to the organism and helps to rebuild vital ‘potential’ through the liberation of latent energy. When it is in contact with the body its very nature compels it to release its vital force: the, vital force from which so many plants and animals feed. Therefore, in order to create health and true fitness the body MUST BE STIMULATED and, stimulated by another working energy like Montmorillonite Clay!

When the white cells, the garbage collectors of our body fluids do not function at their best the Montmorillonite Clay supports the body's inner resources to awaken the stagnant energy by binding exotoxins and mycotoxins. It also supplies the body with the available magnetism to run WELL! In this way the body's natural immune system has an improved chance of restoring the alkaline pH by removing morbid matter and acidic toxins thereby maintaining health and fitness.

How is Montmorillonite Clay Used Externally in the Normal Old Home-Remedies? The Montmorillonite Clay has a consistency of mustard and is ready to eat or it can be mixed in water. Old-Timers would apply the gel/paste directly to the skin for a drawing-effect as in the case of a bee sting, mosquito bite, boil, spider bite, stinging nettle, etc. If the clay is not covered it will dry out; and, as it dries you will feel it draw and pull. If you want a tightening-effect as in the case of a facial for acne, pimples, or minor cuts leave it on until it is almost, but not totally dry. Then remove with a warm wet washcloth and, splash with warm water to remove all traces of the clay. If you want an even more ‘cooling and soothing effect’ such as for burns or scrapes and bruises; cover the gel with a plastic covering or wet cloth so that it won’t dry out. If users were not sure which technique would suit there needs best they often alternated between covered and uncovered applications of the clay. Montmorillonite Clay has been applied once or twice daily or even left in place overnight, as desired. Other external uses for the Montmorillonite Clay have been as a fine talcum powder or a diapering powder. Instructions for using MICRO EXCELERITE® Montmorillonite Clay: There are many different ways of using the Montmorillonite Clay externally; but most all start out with the gel. Make the gel about the consistency of mayonnaise or mustard by mixing 2 parts water with 1 part Montmorillonite Clay. Apply generously in a ½ inch to ¾ inch layer directly onto the skin. An alternative that allows for more mobility is to apply the Clay on a piece of ‘cheese cloth’; and, fold the cloth as if making a ‘burrito’. Secure to the skin with an Ace’ bandage. After applying there are several options: Uncovered: Some people apply the Montmorillonite Clay leaving it uncovered allowing it to dry. As it dries it will ‘draw’ or ‘pull’. Remove before the clay is totally dry. Covered with Cloth: Covering the Montmorillonite Clay with a cloth will secure it to the desired spot and cause the clay to dry more slowly.

Doing this enables you to leave the clay in place overnight or to be able to be mobile during the day without the clay transferring to clothing and household furniture. Wetting the cloth with water will slow the drying rate and increase the ‘cooling sensation’. Again remove the clay pack before it is totally dry; and, replace it with a fresh application of Montmorillonite Clay gel, if desired. Covered with Plastic: Covering the Montmorillonite Clay with plastic wrap or a plastic bag keeps the clay from drying at all which is the desired effect if you are applying it to a burn. Even though the clay will not dry when covered with plastic some people prefer to replace it twice daily. Other people have found that even leaving the pack in tact on a burn for two or three days will produce beautiful new ‘pink skin’. Using the Dry Montmorillonite Clay: People say using it as a baby powder causes diaper rash to disappear before the next diaper change. Some people have reported a ‘drawing-healing action’ when the clay is applied to an open infected wound. If you have never used clay before and plan on using it for the first time on your skin expect a REAL TREAT! Here are some testimonies from people after using the Montmorillonite Clay for four weeks: * No more skin rashes * No more acne * No more dandruff * NEW AND, INCREASED HAIR GROWTH!!! * Less ‘wandering-pain’ all over my body * Clearer skin * Enhanced growth and tissue repair of gums and skin * Softer skin * No more brown skin spots * Skin is less dry and feels more hydrated * After soaking my feet in a water bath of clay no more toe fungus * My skin feels tighter and younger * The redness on my face is almost gone after all these years. http://us-rem.com This was written by Robert O. Animal Health

Dairy, beef cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, turkeys, and chickens have been administered calcium, magnesium, iron potassium, zinc and sodium, or some sort of supplement because of deficiencies, or added for increased growth. These supplements come in chemically processed or natural mineral form. This industry is one of the largest concerning our animals health and well being. These minerals are found in its largest capacities within “Montmorillonite Clays”.

Top Universities, agricultural engineer specialists and nutritionists that certain clays, in particular, the Montmorillonite Clays, hold more natural trace elements than any other natural mineral on the market today have proved it.

Animals in Africa, Europe, Asia and the America’s have all been studied eating the clays of the world. These animals consume this mineral because their bodies crave it.

Australia has shown that the Montmorillonite clay has produced thicker wools in sheep . It was further studied and administered in Canada as well with the same results. The sheep were given 15g of clay with a roughage diet and water, showing a 17% wool gain. Montmorillonite has shown to produce weight gain in lambs. Clays are known to help all animals in either their deficiency of minerals or in producing a healthier growth pattern.

Clays have been introduced into programs for household pets.

Montmorillonite Clay Helps Remove Toxins and Protozoan’s

Montmorillonite clay is trace mineral-rich clay with some very interesting properties, to help promote your dog’s good health. First, Montmorillonite clay is a colloid that is an electrically charged particle. Colloids naturally bind to toxins in your dog’s digestive system, effectively removing them from your dog’s system via his stool. This action helps dogs with bad allergies by binding to and removing the offenders from your dogs system. Colloidal minerals are also readily assimilated by your dog’s system.

You may have seen documentaries on the nature channel where animals flock to these clay banks and are observed feasting on the healing clay. Montmorillonite clay has a second interesting action it performs inside an animal’s digestive tract. Its small particle size appears to clog the breathing and feeding apparatus of harmful protozoa, effectively killing them. These protozoa swim around eating up beneficial bacteria and playing general havoc on your dog digestive tract.

Calcium Montmorillonite Clay A Miracle of Life

By Dr. Simon Cohen, N.D.

Far removed from prominent view, exists an age old substance in nature, known as "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay." There are only a limited number of "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" deposits around the world. The first site was discovered in Montmorillon, France in the 1800's, hence the name, Montmorillonite. For centuries Native American healers used it internally and externally in the treatment of a variety of illnesses. In years past sailing vessels departing from France were known to store clay on board for the treatment of dysentery as well as other ailments. Animals, domestic and wild alike, instinctually drawn to clay deposits have been observed licking the clay as part of their everyday diet, and rolling in it to obtain relief from injuries.

A recognized detoxifying agent, nutrient and bactericidal "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" is in the smectite group of clays. Only those clays within the smectite group have the ability to absorb. Its power as a detoxifying substance comes from its inherent ability to adsorb and absorb. Its unique ability to grow and change (adsorb) is the reason for its classification and recognition as “EXCELERITETM”. While there is more than one Montmorillonite, the red "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" of the smectite group remains a favorite for human use. Clay, which has been hydro-thermally altered and seasoned, in the arid desert is rich in content. The color of clay is determined by the mixture and ratio of elements contained within it. Hydrothermal exposures over long periods of time affect the clay in two important aspects; it becomes negatively charged and crystallized. As a result of the crystallization process the clay is reduced into small particles that make it easy for the body to assimilate. The negative charges on the clay give it the ability to adsorb or attract positively charged toxic matter, which is then absorbed into the clay and dispelled from the body as waste.

In addition to the role it plays as a potent detoxifier, "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" has also been used extensively in the treatment of pain, open wounds, colitis, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, intestinal problems, acne, anemia, and a variety of other health issues.

"Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" is reported to contain no less than 78 minerals. This impressive assortment of minerals includes calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and silica as well as trace elements, those appearing in very tiny amounts. The mineral content being extremely high sets the stage for replenishing dietary deficiencies. Today more than ever before, diets are lacking essential trace minerals and micronutrients. Without the basic minerals, life cannot exist; without trace minerals, major deficiencies may develop. Lack of either will make it impossible for the body to maintain good health and function properly. In clay the minerals occur in natural proportion to one another encouraging their absorption in the intestinal tract. Natural "Calcium Montmorillonite" restores minerals in the tissues where they are needed. Furthermore, minerals are the carriers of the electrical potential in the cells, which enable the hormones, vitamins, and enzymes to function properly.

As mentioned above “EXCELERITE® is known historically as an effective antibacterial in the treatment of dysentery, and as a means of decontaminating water. Presently it is being used internationally to clarify and balance small and large bodies of water. This is so because “EXCELERITE® particles are smaller than many bacteria; when bacteria encounter an environment abundant in clay it becomes surrounded by the clay, and imbedded in it. The immediate result is that the bacteria are unable to receive nourishment and cannot survive.

The dominant approach in health care today is from the viewpoint that considers the notion of parts. The diagnosis of illness is often arrived at by looking for a specific disease by relying on symptoms surfacing in an apparently localized part or parts of the body. Once identified a specific medication for a specific problem is applied. Only recently has medical science begun once again, to explore the idea that health problems surface as a result of disease in the whole system, not just one or more of the parts. The immune system intimately affects each organ on a fundamental level, which spans the boundaries of all the body's vital functions. This is critical to understanding the cause of chronic and degenerative disease. The body's vital systems are dependent on each other. The presence of disease in any system impacts all systems. A lifestyle without substantial nutrition, sufficient rest, a proper balance of stress, and numerous other factors can weaken the immune system. Malfunction of the immune system leads to infectious disease. It is unrealistic to treat parts, and expect a whole result.

Because of its inherent healing properties, clay has long been recognized as a subject worthy of study. It is included as such, in many educational institutions today, which teach pharmacology, herbology, and nutrition. "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" is currently being utilized in hospitals outside of the United States where it has already proven its effectiveness. In recent years clay has become a topic of discussion in numerous publications. Recently more information has become available outlining the important role "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" can play in the recovery and maintenance of health. It has also been receiving significant recognition by the health care community, as a proven and much overlooked natural alternative remedy in the prevention and cure of disease.

Recent exposure has spurred the interest of people around the world, prompting them to seek out reliable high quality resources for clay. This well deserved notoriety is serving to educate the public about this natural healing agent, as a true "Miracle of Life".

While "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" is a powerful nutrient and detoxifier it is important to recognize that it is a part of a total health care system. Healing benefits may result from internal and/or external clay applications. The clay may be ingested, applied as a poultice, and/or used in a bath. An appropriate lifestyle and the proper guidance of a health care practitioner are essential to one's well being. Determining the most beneficial and appropriate application of "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay" is best discussed with someone familiar with its properties.

Natural medicines serve as catalysts triggering our bodies built in healing mechanisms as they work to restore health. I was prompted to write this article because of my personal experience with the far-reaching healing powers of natural "Calcium Montmorillonite Clay". My hope is that the information provided here will encourage others to consult with their respective health practitioners, in considering its use as a part of their daily health regime.

I wish you one and all a lifetime of good health.

3.a- The type of mineral to be used for this trial is a naturally chelated form of montmorillonite, with a natural formula (Fig. #1) composed of 78 oligoelements, diluted gases and heavy metals.

The silica composition averages 25%, which is one of the reasons why an abundant growth of dermal and connective tissues is expected. This chelated montmorillonite compound is also considered as a humic compound, but it originates from an ancient ocean seabed rock. Because of the nature of soil on which the test will be conducted, the expectation is that the trace mineral availability in the forage and grain will be very low. The area in question, as in most other cases where horses are kept and bred in that country, is eroded and washed of the kind of minerals needed to provide an appropriate enzymatic pool formation. With this consideration in mind, the decision was made towards the use of a particular kind of supplement that would make available these important elements to the diet. This needed to be done without generating toxicity and providing a readily absorbable source of trace minerals, which would be easily carried through the walls of the last portion of the small intestines. 3.b- The quality of the food should be good to average and the protein content should average 10%. Only for foals the protein content could rise above 12%. In cases of acute laminitis the protein levels should be observed and reduced to 10% if it was higher. 3.c- The water used will be treated and filtered to almost human specifications. 3.d- Follow-up x-rays every 3 months or as needed. The machine to be used is a new portable unit, with a maximum 100 kV of intensity and a maximum of 35 milliamperes in wavelength, with gradual clock settings.

4) Method: The Qualitative Method of analysis was chosen to test the use of this particular kind of material, since the quantities of absorbed, secreted and excreted elements would not be easily measured by the available technology in the area. A very low amount of traceable elements should be normally found in horses with a normal urinary function, after they have gone through the process of intestinal absorption. Furthermore, the availability of these in saliva, mucus, feces and sweat would be very difficult to measure. Most of the mineral ingested will combine with different molecules in the body, to intervene actively in the enzymatic cellular processes, leaving very small amounts of excretable substances. Considering the eventual lack of these elements, the absorption of this compound would be observed externally in the overall condition of the supplemented population. The expected changes will include the visible change of coat, the increased growth of hoof tissue and the reduction of the toxicity level of different toxins inherent to the feed manufacturing. 5) Location: City: Cali. Country: Colombia. Average Annual Temperature: 20 degrees Centigrade Elevation: 1,000 meters over sea level. Climate Type: Tropical. 6) Population: A total of 550 of the Paso Fino variety of horses are involved in this test. The average weight of the adult horses is 350 kg. A total of 150 of them are stalled. Eighteen of these (18) are laminitic or foundered. (Chart # 1)

Chart #1 Population with Founder or Chronic Laminitis compared to total

6.a - The stallion population is fairly high since most horses are not gelded until adults, or not gelded at all. Within these, most of them are in riding condition. Even those that are not housed in stalls are ridden occasionally. From a population of 281 males, 56 are 4 years old or older. Ten of them are considered foundation sires and the rest are riding prospects.

The rest are 3 years old and under, with different levels of ground or saddle training. Within a population of 150 stalled horses, 72 are males. 6.b - The mare population is slightly lower. Most of them are in riding condition, although the older ones are not used for that purpose. From a population of 269 females, 53 are 4 years old and older. From these, 35 are considered foundation mares. The rest of them are 3 years old and under, with different levels of ground and saddle training. Within a population of 150 stalled horses, 78 are females. 7) Length of study and dates: The proposed length of this study is 24 months. Another 12 months will be used for further observations, to confirm findings or to analyze regressions. (Chart # 2)

The dates chosen for the test are as follows: from May 23rd of 1994 to May 23rd 1996. Another 12 month will be used for follow-up observations. The population of stalled horses will be analyzed every 30 days, coinciding with the shoeing schedule. The laminitic and foundered horses will be trimmed or shod every 3 weeks, or as needed. The rest of the adult to 3 years old population will be trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks. The remaining 2 years old and under population will be trimmed every 90 days, since they are loose in different pastures and they almost self-trim.

8) Dosage: Several ways of supplementing for this trial are proposed. 8.a- The first is an amount of 2 ounces of trace minerals, twice daily, mixed with the food / per horse. This dose is intended for animals in a stage of founder, chronic or acute laminitis. 8.b- The second is an amount of one ounce, once daily mixed with the food / per horse. This dose is

6!

intended for horses that have gone through the first stage of treatment and are stabilized, or for supplementing for a suspected lack of nutrients, or with the intention to absorb possible toxins in the diet. 8.c- The third is mixing the mineral compound with the grain, at a ratio of 3% of the total mix. This dose would be similar to the administered in point 8.b. After mixing, the total average amount of grain administered to the horses should be less than 1,000 grams per meal; or a total of 30 grams average of minerals, prepared for one meal. A second meal would be given, without the minerals in it. The grain preparation would be complemented with the forage. 8.d- The fourth is free choice. In previous tests, this method has been used to pre-qualify the proposed treatment. The results gave a previous idea of what to look for on a directed test situation. The amounts consumed per individual are impossible to appreciate. Therefore a correlation between dose and effect is not achieved. See (Chart #3)

9) Observations:

After the onset of the treatment, the visible signs and changes can be divided in many categories: 9.a- Changes observed within an approximate time frame.

9.aa- Between day 1st to day 10th of the treatment. (Chart # 4)

During the first few days after the supplement is started, no visible change is observed. A gradual reduction of the arterial digital pulse is observed, although it is not uncommon to have some residual abnormal digital pulse

even after sixty days of onset. However, horses in lateral decubitus began to stand up after the 5thday. Of the

3 horses in that condition, one stood up at day 6th. The other two stood up between days 10 and 11. The digital pulse was abnormal and the caudal artery pressure ranged still above 140 mm/mercury. They could not walk almost at all. But they were standing. The horses that were not in the previous condition began to walk a few steps within this first ten days. Two horses did not walk at all.

9.ab- Between day 11th to day 20th. Of the 18 laminitic and foundered horses of this trial, two remained without walking during this period. The condition and posture changed dramatically, allowing weight bearing on the front limbs on the other sixteen horses. The hair has started to shed in all of them.

9.ac- Between day 21st to day 30th. Most of the horses are walking normally. Some are trotting and some are running in sprints, showing lameness after the exercise. But the overall condition is good. The two horses that were not recovering in the previous period are beginning to show some signs of relief. Still lame but walking short steps. The hair has mostly fallen in all of them and has been replaced by a new, short and shiny type. The hydration level of the skin looks normal. The hoof growth has increased noticeably, to the point of generating a wide

8!

environmental line in every one of them. In some cases the measurement of this growth reached 1⁄4 inch. Comparing with other horses in the study, the ones that suffered laminitis or founder were the ones to grow the slowest of the whole group.

9.ad- After day 31st.

Every lame horse is ranging between acceptable to normal, except the two cases that are still showing lameness, but are still walking. It is curious to reflect on the fact that they are brother and sister, from the same sire. The arterial caudal pressure has dropped to normal ranges, although some horses with normal pressure values are still limping occasionally. These are 5 horses of the laminitic group. There is a noticeable weight gain. The general aspect of the horses is very good. Even in the case of the two that are still lame. The hoof growth has continued to occur. There is a large amount of corneal material produced at the sole region. The environmental line has advanced an average of 5/8 of an inch, in some cases, up to almost 7/8 of an inch. The new growth seems to be elastic, hard, but not scaly, when compared with the results obtained with biotin and methionine. 9.b- Changes observed consistently or randomly, several months after the onset of the treatment. After 60 days of treatment there is an overall improvement. Except for those two horses that were still lame at the previous stage, the rest are walking normally, running, but still not ridden. The sound horses began

some riding exercises after the 90th day, but the results of this show that 7 horses returned with various degrees of lameness, that disappeared after the exercise was stopped. These went to a breeding status only. The other group with 9 horses was ridden successfully, although only 4 of them returned to the show ring. The quality of the hoof growth was maintained throughout the trials. In some cases measurements of up to 1 and 11⁄4 inch of growth within a six weeks period were observed. However, this was not the norm. The condition of the horses was very good and so were the hydration levels.

As the trial approached the 6th months, some changes appeared with regards to the amount of the overall intake. The horses started to leave food in their feeders, coinciding with an apparent reduction in the amount of feces. Portions of the forage administered on drought conditions, with lignified mature taluses were digested to the point of reducing considerably the expected volume of excrements. Within the next six months, it became apparent that the horses had dropped their overall intake approximately by 20%. This occurred approximately within one year of the onset of the treatment, with visible changes after the first six months. The general condition and weight was maintained at the same level that it had when the intake was 20 % higher. The stress condition of the herd was good, in spite of the proximity of the stallions to the mares. The 35 mares that composed the Embryo Transfer Program seemed to be cycling regularly, even at the times of the year when it would be expected to have asynchronisms. 9.c- Regressions after the supplement was suspended within a short period of treatment. Several horses that were supplemented with the mineral but did not participate in the trial had a visible improvement while receiving consistently the recommended dose. When the owners considered that the horse was out of danger, the supplement was suspended. In a matter of 48 to 72 hours, the symptoms would recur. When this happened, the horse in question would be re-treated with its last known dose, which would return the signs to where they were before stopping the treatment, in a matter of days.

9.d- Correlation with other pathologies. 9.da. Although the results did not appear to overly change the condition of the foals, when the 2 years old and older group started to be ridden, less x-ray damage was observed at the tarsal joints when they reached the 3 years of age. This is critical within this particular breed that requires early bending exercises and collection for the early competitions. 9.db. Other changes that were not expected appeared when a routine X-ray run of the laminitic horses was performed. The appearance of the previously depleted Coffin bone seemed to present more radio- opacity in several of them. This finding could have been altered due to electrical changes at the time, but the Min- X-Ray device used was new and the x-ray parameters were from a patron chart used from the beginning of the trial.

9.dc. The decrease in findings concerning exosthosis and bucked-shins was also observed. Although no specific study was conducted to that effect, the incidence of periostitis observed declined. 9.de. The improvement of the digestive processes was noticeable. Within the region where this trial was conducted, there are several toxins that affect the preparation of the grain feed. One of them is the aflatoxin from funguses of the genus Aspergillum, which has a tolerance of 20 parts per billion (ppb) when the grain is analyzed to manufacture horse-feed. Toxic levels are considered when the count rises above the level of 20 ppb on grain that is analyzed even before it is cut, to give the purchasing company an idea of whether they should be bought and cut, or not. Some of the most reputable feed companies, such as Purina, offered advice through their Technical Support Veterinarians; who acknowledged to us that in those tropical regions, the quantities of aflatoxins found in the fields before cutting averaged above the 40 ppb. Furthermore, that in some instances they were forced to cut for grain, with chemical analysis of aflatoxins of over 60 ppb, since nothing less could be found. Considering that the laminitic condition is thought to have an endotoxic origin as one of its causes, there seems to be a correlation between the administration of these minerals, and the reduced appearance of laminitis and founder after the treatment was commenced. No new cases of founder with associated rotation of the Coffin bone were observed. Two cases of laminitis associated with severe colic were observed, post-surgery. No rotation of the Coffin bone occurred. Other toxins found in slightly fermented feed are the nitrates and nitrites. These cause the production of skin rushes and hives. After a few days, the appearance of pustules is noticed. It coincides also with the presence of green taluses in the food that were treated with fertilizers, of the kind of the urea, for speeding up the growth process. If the green undeveloped taluses are used, the intoxication occurs. When mature taluses are used, the problem seems to disappear. Due to drought conditions, the use of green, fertilized, undeveloped taluses was common. Before the trial began, this condition was frequent. After the first six months, these cases became very unusual.

10) Conclusions: Apparently, the added presence in the diet of a factor with absorbing and enzymatic capabilities did show some visible results.

10.a- The laminitic condition was visibly reduced. Although there was not a cure for the symptoms, a visible improvement occurred. 10.b- The laminitic condition seems to have been prevented, since no new cases appeared, with the exemption of 2 surgical cases of colic, with post- surgical laminar compromise. These did not rotate the Coffin bone. No new cases of presumably food-derived intoxication with laminar compromise occur. 10.c- The presence of these minerals seems to have reduced the intake of grain of the herd, an average of 20%. This was confirmed by subtracting the amounts of feed bought every month and comparing with the previous months. Also by weighing the leftover grain from the feeders. 10.d- The growth of the hoof material was increased noticeably in speed and in condition. Some areas where the average laminitic horse lacks growth, such as the sole region, were benefited by the supplement. An average of 30 days between shoeing showed very good growth ratios. Approximately 1 centimeter could be taken in depth, at the sole area that adjoins the Coffin bone. 10.e- The general condition of the horses was improved. The hair changed in a matter of 20 days, replaced by a new, shorter and stronger type. The coat looks shiny and the condition of weight is preserved, even when high quality foods are not available. 10.f- The mares improved and sustained their biological cycles, even through periods of time when they would otherwise be asynchronic. 10.g- The stress level was under control over the period of time that the test took place. 10.h- Some evidence was found that supports the theory that the trace mineral formula promotes and replenishes bone density. 10.i- Fewer damages to some critical joints and the periosteal areas were observed, specifically in metacarpal bones. 10.j- A correlation between the absence of endotoxic signs and the administration of these minerals was observed, in spite of confirmed high levels of aflatoxins in the diet.

11) Discussion: At the end of the test, some conclusions were inevitable:

1) The fact that this mineral formula stimulates the growth of the hoof material increasing its speed and condition;

2) The fact that the laminitis condition improves drastically after a few days of administering the formula; 3) The fact that during the period no new cases of rotation of the Coffin bone appeared and the distinct possibility that these minerals prevent to some degree the intoxication with aflatoxins present in the grain. These findings, although based on qualitative direct observations, re-affirmed the validity of the original

postulates. Some important data concerning the elimination levels of these minerals was not achieved, leaving room for speculation as to what the action, pathways and via of absorption and elimination and its quantities might be. Nevertheless, the qualitative character of the study makes us conclude that there is a definite effect of these naturally chelated trace minerals over specific areas of the horse’s body. 12) Bibliography: Jackson, S.G., 1993. Researchers find new path to antibiotics in dirt A teaspoon of dirt contains an estimated 10,000 species of bacteria, but it’s only one percent of these microbial bugs — the ones that can be grown easily in a lab — that have brought us antibiotics, anticancer agents and other useful drugs. The odds favor the other 99 percent for clinical promise, too, but scientists have had little success in tapping this unknown majority for new medicines because of the difficulty of analyzing the bugs’ DNA. Now researchers at The Rockefeller University have extracted that genetic material from a lump of earth and turned it into an environmental DNA “megalibrary” that may provide access to many previously unknown organic compounds. The library has already led them to the genetic code for two potential antibiotics; the scientists also used enzymes from one set of cloned genes to produce new antibiotic derivatives as powerful as the strongest drugs we have today. The research could recharge interest in the search for new compounds in the environment that has flagged over the past decade because of lackluster results. The new findings suggest that all sorts of useful and unknown products are being manufactured by bacteria in the soil that we routinely trample underfoot. And it shows a promising way to get at them. The work was published online Wednesday in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition. “This proves that you can recover large gene clusters from very complex soil samples,” says Sean F. Brady, who heads the Laboratory of Genetically Encoded Small Molecules. “It suggests that there’s an untapped reservoir out there of variations on many clinically relevant antibiotics, and that by using culture-independent screening strategies, we may be able to gain access to them.” The search for new antibiotics is increasingly urgent as “drugs of last resort” like vancomycin and teicoplanin are resorted to more commonly these days. Some of the meaner strains of Staphylococcus and other infections, including tuberculosis, have developed resistance to traditional antibiotics after decades of exposure to them. By heating up about a cupful of soil in the presence of a detergent, Brady and graduate student Jacob Banik were able to separate the DNA from the dirt and scan the genetic material for a gene sequence called OxyC that is common to the family of antibiotics including vancomycin and teicoplanin. In soil samples from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Utah, Oregon, North Carolina, Tanzania and Costa Rica, they found that each contained at least one previously undiscovered variant of the OxyC sequence. Focusing on the sample from Utah, the Brady lab organized all of the genetic material into a 10 million member megalibrary, far larger than any other DNA library of its kind. It contained the rough equivalent of 100,000 bacterial genomes. Banik cloned two unique gene clusters that were associated with new OxyC sequences and used one of the clusters to manufacture a new family of antibiotics. In addition to combating bacteria as well as the most powerful drugs in use today, the new antibiotics have unique structural features that could hold as yet undetermined medical advantages. “This is just one example of the new, medically relevant structures you can find using this genetic targeting strategy,” Brady says, “It suggests that there are many, many more out there.” “We can go out and find compounds that have never been seen before, and those are very likely to have some functionalities that are even more useful than the ones we’ve got in the lab already,” Banik says. “If you look at the complexity and elegance of the solutions found by Mother Nature, it just seems incredibly obvious that there are more effective elements to go after than those to which we currently have access.”
