Education is the process of facilitating learning or acquisition of skills, knowledge, values, beliefs and habits. It aims at making the learner productive citizens and to sustain themselves along with pushing the human race forward in areas of equality, equity and harmony. It also lays stress on the total personality development and managerial skills in them to meet their needs. The News Bulletin of the institution is the replica of the activities – scholastic and non scholastic which are carried out in the college through ought an academic year. I am happy as well as proud of my students along with the staff members who involve themselves in the different activities to the fullest extent and make it success all the time. Besides I owe my earnest sincerity to the experts and people from different walks of life who extended their support and cooperation for all round development of the students as a whole. Also I am thankful to the organisations and authority for conducting various useful sessions in the interest of the institution and students in particular. We had a glorious academic session in Govt. Women’s College, Sambalpur

with a plethora of activities conducted during the session

2018-2019.

Dt.05.07.2018: An Induction Meeting of guest faculties was organised at the Smart Room of the college. Smt. Smiti Sudha Tripathy, Principal of the college welcomed all the guest faculties. The academic bursar and the administrative bursar also addressed the gathering.

Dt. 17.07.2018: The 60th Foundation Day of the college was celebrated in a grand way in the college premises. Dr. Ashwini Kumar Pujari,

Director, VSS Institute of Medical and Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) was the chief guest on the occasion. The News Bulletin of the college for the academic session 2017-2018 was released by the honourable chief guest.

Dt. 13.07.2018 to 19.07.2018 – A special camp of NSS was organised by the NSS (+ 2 wing) of the College which continued from 13.07.18 to 19.07.18. Different types of activities were carried out in this camp. These events include Awareness programme on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence (PWDV) Act 2005, Swachha Bharat Abhijan, Awareness programme on Nutrition

and Health, Rally on Environment Protection and Exposure visit of NSS volunteers to slum to understand the socio-economic condition of the slum dwellers. Dr. Prasant Kumar Mohapatra, former Regional Director of Education, Sambalpur was invited as the chief guest on the valedictory ceremony. Prizes and participation certificates were distributed among the NSS volunteers.

Dt.01.08.2018: An induction programme for the +2 1st year (Arts, Science and Commerce) students was organised. The Principal, Smt. Smiti Sudha Tripathy rendered a warm welcome to the freshers.

Dt. 04.08.2018: A plantation programme was carried out jointly by the NSS wing, Eco Club and Forest Department in and around the College

Campus. Large number of saplings were planted by the staff and students with the support of the forest department.

Dt. 15.08.2018: The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated in the college campus with flag hoisting by the Principal Smt. Smiti Sudha Tripathy.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of different competitions held before hand.

Dt. 31.08.2018: The 157th Birth Anniversary of Swabhab Kabi Gangadhar Meher was celebrated with pomp and ceremony. Professor Krushna

Dt.04.09.2018: An Awareness programme was organised by WE (Women Empowerment) Squard of Sambalpur Police. The students of our

college were shown demonstration of different self defence techniques by the trainers.

Dt.05.10.2018: A sensitization programme on the issue of Momo Challenge (mobile game) was organised in the Smart Room. Dr. Kalyani Rath sensitized the students against harmful effects of the malicious game.

Dt. 10.10.2018: ‘Why I Stand Meeting’ on the eve of election to different posts of the Students Union and Cultural Association took place. The candidates contesting in the election expressed their vision and action plan before the students and teachers.

Dt. 08.11.2018: The first extramural lecture on the topic “Democracy and Development in India” was organised by the college. Dr. Dillip Kumar Panda, eminent economist and academician delivered a very analytical talk on the above topic.

Dt. 11.11.2018: ‘World Education Day’ was observed in the college. Dr. Santosh Kumar Dash, Former DLC and Principal of Women’s College, Sambalpur was the chief guest on

the occasion. He delivered a brilliant speech emphasizing on the education of girls.

Chandra Pradhan, Dept. of Odia, Sambalpur University, was the chief guest on the occasion. He delivered a detailed informative speech on the life of the great poet Gangadhar Meher. Prizes were distributed to the winners of Debate, Essay and Recitation Competition on Gangadhar Meher held in advance.

Dt. 13.11.2018: The meritorious students were distributed laptops by Mr. Samarth Burma, esteemed Collector, Sambalpur in a meeting at Smart room of our College.

Dt. 20.11.2018: Second extramural lecture on the topic “Methods of Happiness” was organised by the college. Dr. Gundicha Samanta Singhara, Presiding officer, Labour court, Sambalpur delivered a very interesting talk on the above topic.

Dt. 20.11.2018: A Blood Donation Camp was organised by the NCC wing of the College. Large

number of staff and students came forward with much enthusiasm to donate blood.

Dt. 26.11.2018: ‘NCC Day’ was observed in the college premises by the NCC cadets. The cadets turned up in uniforms and the principal received the guard of honour.

Dt. 01.12.2018: An awareness programme on AIDs was organised by the Red Cross Wing of

the College. Dr. Diptibala Pattanaik, Retired Physician and Social Activist delivered a very informative talk in a very simple language to the students.

Dt. 08.12.2018: The third extramural lecture of the session was on “Language, Society and

Englishes”. Dr. Kamadev Sahu, Former Reader and HoD, Dept of English, GM Autonomous College delivered a very intellectually stimulating lecture on the above topic.

Dt. 10.12.2018: A seminar on Human Rights was organised on the International Human Rights Day was organised in collaboration with District Legal Service Authority, Sambalpur. Advocate Malaya Dash, Former District Judge graced the occasion as chief speaker and delivered an informative speech.

Dt. 11.01.2019: On the eve of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi a one day National Seminar was organised on the topic “Relevance of Gandhi in the Contemporary World. Dr. Sujit Kumar Pruseth, Associate Professor,

Central University, Punjab and Dr. Dilip Kumar Panda, eminent economist and academician were the chief guest and chief speaker on the Inaugural ceremony of the seminar respectively. Dr. Santosh Kumar Dash, former DLC and Principal of the College was the chair person in Technical Session I

in which Dr. Panchanan Mishra, Retired Associate Professor, G. M. University and Dr. Jayanta Kar Sharma, Registrar, Odisha State Open University (OSOU) were the chief speaker. Dr. Bijan Kumar Mohapatra, District Level Consultant (DLC), Sambalpur was the chair person in Technical Session II in which Dr. Kamdev Sahu, Reader and HoD, Dept of English, G. M. Autonomous College and Dr. Shyama Bhoi were the Chief Speakers. Dr. Sasanka Sekhara Nanda, former Principal of the College was the chief guest in the valedictory ceremony of the national seminar. A souvenir was published and released on the occasion.

15.01.2019: A seminar on the topic “Importance of Self-management in Knowledge Economy” was organised by the Economics Department of our college. Dr. Uma Charan Pati,

Deputy Registrar, G. M. University was the chief guest on the occasion. He delivered a rational talk on the topic.

25.01.2019: National Voters Day was observed in the College as per the directives of the Election Commission of India. The staff and students took pledge in a meeting.

25.01.2019: An inter departmental seminar on the topic “Need of Value Education for

Today’s Youth” was organised by the Sanskrit Department of our college. The meritorious students of the department were felicitated for their outstanding achievement.

Dt. 26.01.2019: The Republic Day was observed in the college premises with much pomp and ceremony. Mrs. Smiti Sudha Tripathy, Principal unfurled the tricolour.

Dt. 08.02.2019: A seminar on Industrial Training Programme was organised by the career counselling cell in collaboration with Xcentric Learning Pvt. Ltd.

Self Defence Programme was carried out in three phases in the college premises: First Phase –26-09-2018 to 11-10-18, Second Phase – 27-11-2018 to 12-12-18, Third Phase - 12-01-19 to 30-01-19.

Ms. Babita Meher (Mathematics) became the Best Graduate of Sambalpur University for the session 2018-2019.

Ms. Padmashree Khatei of +3 1st year Arts attended Republic Day Camp (RDC) of 2019 at New Delhi. She was awarded GOVERNOR AWARD for BEST CADET and given Rs. 10,000/- cash prize by his Excellency Governor of Odisha.

Ms. Golapi Kalo of +3 final year (Arts) represented Sambalpur University in inter-university swimming competition in 2018-2019.

Senior under Officer (SUO) Ms. Smruti Rekha Chouhan was selected from Sambalpur Group Headquarters to attend SSB Coaching at Officers Training Academy, Gowaliar.

Surgent Bisnupriya and Junior under Officer (JUO) Lamxipriya Munda attended ‘Thal Sainik Camp’ at New Delhi in 2018-2019 and received silver medal for cultural programme.
