The College day was celebrated on

March 9, 2010. Thiru. U. Mathivanan, Honourable Minister for Diary Development, was the distinguished chief guest. He inspired the audience with his excellent speech.

Thiru. A. D. Jeyem Pandian, President, presided over the function. On this occasion Proficiency prizes and other prizes were distributed to the winners in various competitions. Thirumathi. Prema Jeyem Pandian, Dr. A. D. Jegadheeshwar and Thiru. N. Kathiresan Prabhu graced the occasion. Our students enlightened the audience with variety entertainment.

The 28th Graduation was held on March 15, 2010 with Dr. P. Murugesa Boopathy, Vice Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, as the guest of honour. He spoke about the importance of educating women, welfare

measures for the upliftment of women, full statistics of female literacy, employment and women empowerment. Thiru. A. D. Jeyem Pandian, Founder President, presided over the function

and gave the presidential address. Dr. A. D. Jegadheeshwar, Secretary, welcomed the gathering and Thiru. N. Kathiresan Prabhu, Vice President, was present on the occasion.

The board of studies meetings of all

the departments were conducted during the month of April in order to frame the syllabus for the ensuing academic year.

Extension activities were carried out by the department on 27.02.2010 and 10.04.2010 at Anganwadi centre, Kila Anthanapettai. They focused on Health care of women and children.

Dr. L. Megala, Associate Prof. in Chemistry, visited Thailand and presented two papers in an International Seminar organized by the ‘International Congress of Chemistry and Environment’ from 21st to 23rd January 2010.

The department organized a training programme jointly with Career guidance cell on 13.04.2010 for the PG students to give training to attend the SLET/NET Examinations. Subject experts from various colleges were invited for handling the classes.

Ms. B. Usharani , I M.Sc Chemistry was awarded from UGC the Indira Gandhi Scholarship award of Rs. 20,000/-. A sum of Rs. 10,000/- has been sanctioned to Ms. R. Ramya, II M.Sc Chemistry, for doing her project ‘Nano Chemistry of Lead sulphide’. Ms. V. Durga, I M.Sc Chemistry underwent a training camp during May 2010 to July 2010 at Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Centre, Kalpakkam, Chennai.

Dr. G. Ezhiladhirai, Head, acted as a resource person in the State level seminar organized at AVC College, Mayiladuthurai on 26.02.2010 and she spoke on ‘Science and Technology of Ancient Tamils’. A guest lecture on ‘Historical tourism in Nagapatinam District’ was organized on 31.03.2010. Dr. Kavinger Ezhilavan was the

resource person and he enlightened the participants on the tourist potential of Nagapatinam district.

The students were taken for an

educational study tour on 19.01.2010. They visited the famous temple at Thanjavur, Thirupullamangai, Srirangam and Kallanai. As part of the extension activity the department organized a General Health camp for the benefit of the ‘pettai’ area people on 19.02.2010.

The department organized a training

programme jointly with Career guidance cell on 17.12.2009 for the PG and M.Phil students to give training to attend the SLET/NET Examinations. Subject experts from various colleges were invited for handling the classes.

One extension activity was organized

on 18.01.2010 as a joint venture with the NSS unit of our college at Kamala Aided School, Ivanallur. The students were given training in making woolen flowers and paper cutting.

The club also organized a seminar on

‘Developing Reading Skills’ on 29.01.2010. Prof.C.Alagan, Head of the department of English, Thiru Vi.Ka. Government Arts College, Thiruvarur, was the resource person.

Mrs. V.Kannaki, Associate Prof. in English, and V. Uma Maheswari, Assistant Prof. in English, went to Singapore on 15th and 16th May 2010 for presenting papers in an International Conference. Essay competition and oratorical contest were conducted and by the department on 29.12.2009 and prizes were given to the winners.

A special meeting was conducted on 21.01.2010 by the Flying fish Zoological Association and Wild life department,

Nagapattinam, in connection with the Wild life week celebrations.

Thiru.V.Thirunavukkarasu, IFS wild life warden, in his address reiterated the need for conserving of wild life. A guest lecture was organized by the association on 25. 03. 2010. Dr. M. Varadharajan, Associate Professor in Zoology, AVC College, Mayiladuthurai, was the resource person and he spoke about Water conservation. The PTA meeting was conducted by the department on 22.03.2010. Selvi. K. Mahalakshmi, III B.Sc Zoology, won a cash award of Rs. 3,000/- by Bharathidasan University, Trichirappalli, for her outstanding contributions in Zoology.

The Botany Club organized a Self

Employment Programme on ‘Preparation of Herbal Powders’ on 25.02.2010. Lr.G.Manivasam, Herbalist, Thevur, was a resource person and he inspired the audience with demonstration and exhibits.

As an extension activity, a field trip

was arranged on 13.03.2010 to Tiruvarur. The methods of preparing Herbal products were demonstrated and various medicinal plants and nursery techniques were also explained during the visit to various places.

Mathematics, gave a special lecture on ‘Multiple Domination in Graphs’ at Dharmapuram Adinam College, Mayiladuthurai, on 24.02.2010. Dr. R. Sophia Porchelvi,Associate Professor in Mathematics, was the Quiz Coordinator for the Inter -

Collegiate Quiz competition conducted at Government Arts College for Women (Autonomous) Kumbakonam on 23.02.2010. The department organized a training programme jointly with Career guidance cell on 10.2.2010 for the PG and M.Phil students to give training to attend the SLET/NET Examinations. Subject experts from various colleges were invited for handling the classes.

A special lecture on ‘Web

Technologies’ was organized by the department on 12.02.2010. Mr. B. Anand, Network Engineer, University Informatics Centre, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, was the resource person.

The department organized a seminar

on Human Resource Managements challenges in the present day scenario on 23.02.2010. Dr.M.Sivasubramanian, Department of Management Studies, Annamalai University, Chidambaram was the Resource Person. Man-mat- Management games were also conducted and winners were given prizes.

Dr. A. Dhanalakshmi, Head, acted as

Resource person in a National Seminar organized at Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore and spoke on ‘Sylapathikarathil Ani Chirappu’ on 24.02.2010 and gave a special lecture on 23.03.2010 at Velankani on the occasion of the Women’s day celebrations. Dr. T. Vasuki, Associate Prof. in Tamil received ‘Dr.Ambedkar fellowship National Award 2009’ on 08.12.09 at Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi, Delhi and ‘Kavimamani Viruthu’ on 29.12.2009 at Thiruvaiyaru. She gave a special lecture on ‘India and Women development’ at Valluvar Arts and Science College, Karur, on 02.01.2010. She was also invited for giving lectures at Darmapuram Gnanambigai Arts and Science College, Mayiladuthurai and Self help group federation, Velankanni, on 23.03.2010.

The Tamil Literary Association conducted a meeting on 06.01.2010. Rotarian Dr.N.Krishnamoorthy, President, World Tamil Peravai, Karaikal was the chief guest.

Inter Collegiate short stories writing

competition was conducted by A.V.C College, (Autonomous), Mayiladuthurai, for their student’s magazine ‘Illam Thuthu’. Out of the 100 students participated from 33 Colleges, M.Illamathi, II B.Sc Mathematics, received the second prize and the award ‘ Kaviyakalki’ and R.Sutha, I B.Sc Chemistry received the consolation prize. The staff members of the Department motivated the students to participate in various competitions organized by colleges and other Tamil organizations in our state.

Our faculty members are endowed

with an excellent aptitude for research. They are actively taking part in activities such as participating and presenting papers in various Seminars/Workshops/Conferences, attending orientation/refresher courses, publishing their contributions in Journals and the details are given at the last and they are also undertaking research projects and guiding research scholars.

Two UGC sponsored Major Research Projects have been sanctioned to Dr.G.Madhurambal, Head, Department of Chemistry and Dr. T. Vasanthi, Head, Department of Mathematics to the tune of Rs. 10,67,800 /- and Rs. 5,22,680 /- during January 2010 for the projects ‘Isolation and Characterization of bio active metabolitos from the medicinal plant tribulus terrestris and its therapeutic activity on nephrolothesis and Urolothesis’ and ‘Application of Martingale Theory of some epidemic models’

respectively.

One UGC sponsored Minor Research Project has been sanctioned to Dr. N. Selvi, Associate Professor in Mathematics, to the tune of Rs. 90,000/- during January 2010 for the project entitled ‘A study on the wiener number of graphs and its applications’.

The cell organized a one day seminar

on ‘Web Portal of ADMC’ from a developer’s perspective on 12.02.2010. Mr. Anand Balaji, Network Engineer, University Informatics Centre, I.T. Person, UGC Infonet programme, Bharadhidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, was the resource person.

Enrichment Programmes such as Communication skills (Out sourcing), speaker’s forum and Journal club are offered regularly to the students, so as to impart additional knowledge and to improve their skills.

Our students took part in the rally

organized by the District Collectorate in connection with the World Aids Day on 01.12.2009. During ‘Road Safety’ week celebration from 01.01.2010 to 07.01.2010 our volunteers assisted the Tamilnadu State Transport Corporation distributing pamphlets about road safety to the public. A rally was also organized on 07.01.2010 stressing the need for following traffic rules. It was inaugurated by Thir.Maheswar Dayal, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nagapattinam our NSS volunteers took part in the rally. Our volunteers attended the meeting on ‘Life is safe if driving is safe’ organized by the RRC unit of our college on the same day.

The long awaited dream of our

students was materialized on 07.12.2009. The NCC unit of our college was inaugurated on 07.12.2009. Lieutenant Colonel S.Veerasangili, Commanding Officer was the chief guest of the function. The cadets attended a 10 day camp at Government Arts College, Kumbakonam from 24.12.2009 to 02.01.2010 organized by the 8 (TN) Bn. NCC, Kumbakonam and 14 (TN) Bn. NCC, Dindigul.

The club also organized an ‘Awareness programme on the importance of 108-Emergency Ambulance Service on 19.01.2010 as a joint venture with the Rotary Club of Nagore. Pamphlets were also distributed to the public.

Rangoli competition was conducted jointly with the Ladies Club of Nagapatinam on 09.02.2010.

A one day seminar on ‘Celebrating

the life curriculum’ was organized by the club on 07.01.2010 as a joint venture with the RRC Unit of our college. On the same day Selvi.A.Tamil Ilakkia spoke on the topic ‘Road Safety’. On 21.01.2010, a first aid training programme was conducted for the school students at Ivanallur during N.S.S camp

Human Rights Day was celebrated by the club on 30.12.2009. Thiru.E.V. Gerald B.A., L.L.B. Advocate, District Civil Court was the chief guest.

The club also organized a meeting at Aivanallur, the adopted village of our college by NSS, on 23.01.2010. Dr.A.Brema, Associate Professor spoke about the need for social harmony.

The members of the club took part in

the ‘World AIDS Day’ cycle procession organized by the District Collectorate on 01.12.2009. The club organized essay, oratorical and poster competitions to the members. Prizes were distributed to the winners of these competitions on 28.01.2010 during their visit to ICTC, Govt. Hospital, Nagapatinam.

In connection with world Mahalir Thinam celebration, the club conducted an interactive programme on ‘AIDS awareness’ on 02.03.2010. Dr.R.Veerakumar, Deputy Director of Medical Services, T.B.Unit, Mr.Balasubramanian, Health Educator, Nagapattinam and Mrs.S.Hema, President, Positive Network, Nannilam were the resource persons. In the consumer awareness festival organized on 07.01.2010, Selvi.V.Sasikaladevi, II B.Com., won the II prize in the essay competition. In connection with the consumer day celebrations oratorical and quiz competitions were conducted at Chinmaya Vidyalaya on 29.01.2010. Selvi. B.Mariammal, III B.Sc., Zoology won the I prize in the Tamil oratorical competition. Selvi.M.Sasikala won the I prize in the quiz competition.

The members of the club took part in

the Perarignar Anna Centenary celebration mass cleaning campaign on 15.02.2009 organised by the Nagapattinam Municipality.

Competitive Examination Coaching Centre

The centre conducts coaching classes

every Tuesday to the outgoing students to prepare them for the various competitive examinations like Bank Examinations for probationary officers and clerical assistants, Civil Services Examination, Group I and Group II Examinations and other competitive examinations.

They have been given coaching in

topics like Quantitative Aptitude, English for competitive examination, General History, General Physics, Indian constitution and General Mathematics.

The members participated in the rally

organized by the Lions Club of Nagapattinam Port Town on 30.12.2009 to create an awareness among the public about global warming. A seminar on ‘Global Warming’ was also organized on the same day. Thiru.A.K.S. Vijayan, M.P. Nagapattinam constituency was the chief guest.

Selvi.K.Sudha of III B.Sc., Mathematics and Selvi.P.Rengayaki of B.Sc., Mathematics won the II prize in the Inter Collegiate quiz competition conducted by CPCL in connection with ‘Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight celebrations 2010’.

The cell organized a workshop on

soft skills on 21.12.2009. Resource persons were from ‘I MACYS Software Technology’, Chennai. III B.Sc., Bio-Chemistry, III B.Sc., Economics and III B.Sc., Chemistry students attended the workshop.

‘Frankin Institute of Air Hostess’ Training conducted an interview on 27.12.2009. Out the 54 students who attended the interview 28 were selected. This training programme will be conducted in Trichy from the month of April 2010.

A Meeting on ‘Personality

Development and Time Management’ was conducted on 21.01.2010 with Ln. S. Ramadoss and Ln. D. Richardson as resource persons.

A one-day Workshop on ‘Soft skills development’ was conducted on 01.02.2010 with Mr. I. Joseph Ernest, Mr. V. Ramakrishnan and Mr. S. Lakshmi Narayanan, I Macys Technologies, Chennai, as resource persons.

A training programme on ‘Communication skills’ was arranged for all the final year UG students on 03.03.2010. Mr .R. Vijayaraja, Continental Management Academy, was the resource person.

A special coaching for SLET/NET

examinations were conducted jointly with the departments of Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics for the PG and M.Phil students during this semester.

Health Corner Papaya is a rich source of minerals and fibre and is also rich in anti-oxidants. It has high nutritional benefits and also

A Crash programme for Bank Examinations was conducted on 05.04.2010 to all the final UG and PG students. Ln. S. Arun and Ln. R. Balasubramaniam were the resource persons and they gave training in Aptitude tests and given tips for passing the examinations.
