Autumn 2- Our Wonderful World In our topic lessons we have been looking at the human and physical features of our 4 focus countries: Brazil, China, Nigeria and The Netherlands. We used resources to build our own map of the physical features of each country. We also looked at the main biomes that we have in this world and created poster and TV adverts using the information that we researched about each country. We were lucky enough to do lots of cooking this term, preparing and tasting traditional dishes from Brazil, China and The Netherlands. This got very messy at times! In English, we planned and wrote letters to the World Leaders urging them to do something about climate change and help save our planet. We also wrote repeated line poems about what makes our world so wonderful – focusing on how everyone and thing in this world is different. We learnt to trigger switches and columns, play a piece of music from notation, add new switches from the library and compose our own piece of music using notation. We were also lucky to have Hands On Science visit us for an ‘Elastic Racers’ workshop. In this workshop, we built our own race cars out of K’Nex and used elastic bands to get them to move down a track. We then modified our cars to see if we could get it to travel further by considering the forces acting on the car and how some could be minimised and maximised. Leaders urging them to do something about climate change and help save our planet. We also wrote repeated line poems about what makes our world so wonderful – focusing on how everyone and thing in this world is different.

We also created our very own portal story, where our main character was transported to a wonderful world (inspired by wondrous places on our own planet).

This term, we have been lucky enough to learn a new unit of work in Music using the Garage Band App on the iPads. We learnt to trigger switches and columns, play a piece of music from notation, add new switches from the library and compose our own piece of music using notation. We absolutely love this unit of work as we were able to

We then modified our cars to see if we could get it to travel further by considering the forces acting on the car and how some could be minimised and maximised. Following the session, we discussed scientific aspects of the winning car and sketched a final design of a car that we thought would go the furthest.
