CORONER

AMERICAN BEAUTY Friday, 9.30pm • ONE

When it was released in 2000, this treatise on middle-aged ennui snared five Academy Awards -best picture, best director, best actor (Kevin Spacey), best original screenplay and best cinematography and it's not hard to see why. The film follows Lester and Carolyn Burnham (Spacey and Annette Benning) who are, on the outside, a perfect husband and wife, in a perfect house, in a perfect neighbourhood. But things are not as they seem.

Sunday, June 8 • Manning Bar, University of Sydney Union

Coroner was one of those underrated metal bands, mostly known to hardcore fans. Often labelled a thrash band, their music went far beyond what is usually thought of as thrash metal. Releasing five albums and a semi-compilation in eight years - from the unpolished and technical speed of 1987'S R.I.P., the complexity of 1988's Punishment!or Decadence, the technical quality of 1989's No More Color and its derivative Mental Vortex from 1991 to the heavier and more laidback style of Grin -the band progressed consistently, without ever losing their identity. Composed of only three members - Tommy Vetterli (guitar), Marky Edelmann (drums) and Ron Broder (bassI vocals) - Coroner stood out of the metal scene with outstanding musicianship, creativity, raw power, technical skills and innovation.

JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT Out Now RATEDM

Based on the character created by bestselling author Tom Clancy, this action-packed flick follows a young Jack (Chris Pine) as he uncovers a financial terrorist plot. The story follows him from 9/11, through his tour of duty in Afghanistan, which scarred him forever, and into his early days in the Financial Intelligence Unit of the modern CIA where he becomes an analyst, under the guardianship of his handler, Harper (Kevin Costner). When Ryan believes he's uncovered a Russian plot to collapse the United States economy, he goes from being an analyst to becoming a spy and must fight to save his own life.

COLDPLAY GHOST STORIES Out Now

Since releasing their runaway smash hit debut, Parachutes, in 2000, Coldplay have been serving up various shades of beige to a bafflingly increasing global audience. Now they've returned with album number six and while I thought a record couldn't bore me more than 2011's Mylo Xyloto, it seems Chris Martin and co have proved me wrong.

Dubbed the Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow "uncoupling" album, Ghost Stories is a meandering slab of pretentious and overwrought dreck whose overproduction belies the vapid lack of ambition contained within.

Given that their upcoming promotionial gig at the Metro in Sydney sold out in a mere three minutes, proves that I'm in the minority with this assessment of Coldplay, but if you too are a fan of music I'd give this one a wide berth.

FIATURISTORY

STEPHEN BISSET

hen three fresh-faced all-American boys from Tulsa Oklahoma released their iropossibly catchy slice of

pure pop - MMMBop - in 1997, Isaac, Zac and Taylor Hanson set a million hearts a-flutter and a million girls screaming with their boyish charm and prodigious ability to write saccharine-sweet paeans to life, younglove and positivity.

17 years on and Hanson may be all grown up, but the screaming certainly hasn't stopped.

The band, responsible for a formidable 16 million in global record sales, still command a rabid and intensely loyal fanbase around the world, includingAustralia, where they will touch down in August as part of their current world tour in support of their ninth studio album, Anthem.

"We are so excited to be coming back down to Australia - our fans down there are awesome;' Isaac Hanson told TE down the line from Tulsa

''We were last down there in 2012 on the Slwut it Out tour and it was, like six years before that, so we made a promise on the last tour that we would get back down there

more often so it's good to be able to live up to that promise."

Given Hansen's seemingly "overnight sensation" status following the release of MMMBop and the subsequent multimillion selling album Middle of Nowhere (despite re1easing two independent albums previously), they were somewhat unfairly lumbered with the rather disingenuous "boy band" and now "man band" tag. However, one listen to their sixth album Anthem - the fourth on their own label 3CG - and it's obvious that these guys are serious musicians with a well-honed pop sensibility.

Produced by the band, mixed by Tom Lord-Alge (Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, The Cure) and featuring guest appearances from the likes of Golgol Bordello's Yuri Lemeshev and Michael Fitzpatrick and Joe Karnes from Fitz and the Tantrums, Anthem, like the title would suggest, is a massive album that, while still retaining those ubiquitous flashes of pop brilliance, is tempered with mornents of pure rockand roll, neo-soul and classic R & B although, as Hanson explained, the band has been traversing a wide range of sonic territory for some time.

"The idea when we went in to record the album was to make it sound as big as possible - so I think theAnthem title is very fitting," he said.

''We, as a band, have historically had to !ace the challenge of some people thinking

The idea, when we went into record the album, was to make it sound as big as possible

that we produced just one sound from top to bottom, but, if you listen to Middle of Nowhere, sure, there are those poppy songs on there but there's also a lot ofmoody and groovy things going on and some more aggressive stuff as well, and I thinkAnthem has very sirnilar qualities.

''There's a song on there called Fired Up which is based around a massive ACt DC-inspired guitar riff, another called I Got Soul that has a really intense R & B feel and songs like the single Get The Girl Back which is a really catchy soul-based pop song so, yeah there's definitely quite a lot

going on and definitely alittle more fight in this one."

While it's obvious that Hanson is as passionate about his music as ever, there is another passion that has also been piquing the brothers' interest oflate. Beer.

The boys have recently launched their own beer, the aptly named MMMHops, and Hanson became even more aniroated at the mention of the new venture.

"We are so excited about it - beer is like music, everybody likes it;' he laughed.

"Over the years, we've done a lot of touring and sampled many beers from around the world and we were discussing the fact that we were becoming these huge beer snobs and we thought, "wouldn't it be cool to be able to just brew beer all day", so we decided to just do it.

"It's currently for sale in Oklahoma and a few neighbouring states and it's doing very well. We're also actively looking into getting a mail-order thing happening and getting it into countries like Australia - I mean, you guys love your beer."

While the incessant radio airplay the hand enjoyed early in their career may've died down somewhat in the ensuing years, their fanbase certainly hasn't and, while Hanson said it was quite surreal to still receive such a fervent reaction from fans after all these years, it's something he wouldn't change for love nor money.

"Yes I amgoingdeafslowly;' Hansonsaid. "But it really does constantly surprise me

that the reaction we get at shows has been consistently crazy for seventeen years. Alot is said about the screaming and the crazy fans and stuffbut, in reality, it's just really cool to see that people can be so passionate about ourmusic. It's also cool to see crowds singing the words to all of our songs, not just the hits. It's something that we never, ever take for granted."

catch Hanson at the Enmore Theatre on Friday, August 8 (all ages) and the Hi Fi Bar on Wednesday, August 13 (18+). Tickets for both shows are selling fast so, get in quick.

MUSIC Classic country on show DALE HOOPER'S drive, ambition, and stage presence, has gained him the admiration and respect from his many fans and peers alike.

Wagons keep on roiling

STEPHEN BISSET

Although Dale Hooper has been working as a professional entertainer since the mid 1980'S, it wasn't until 1993 when he took out the major prize in the inaugural Banjo Paterson Country Music Festival Talent Quest held in Orange that his career in Country Music took a huge leap forward. After his win he was afforded a number of appearances at the 1994 Tamworth Country Music Festival. This in tum led to extensive touring throughout NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, where he was deemed to be an outstanding success by both his peers and audiences.

The award-winning performer will be hitting town to perform the classic hits of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Geroge lones, Dwight Yokam, Randy Travis, Travis Tritt and many more so, if you're a fan of classic country, this is one show you won't want to miss.

Catch Dale Hooper at Belmont Bowling Club on Sunday, June 8. The show starts at 3.30pm so, get in early.

STEPHEN BISSET

A fter wowing pretty much everyone with his idiosyncratic solo effort, Expecting Company - a

mini album featuring duets with the likes of Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Patience Hodgson (The Grates) and Robert Foster (The Go Betweens), Henry Wagons is back on deck with his long serving and trusty backing band and with a lurching, bombastic and brassy album in Add Rain and Sugar Cane.

Speaking to TE down the line from Adelaide on the eve of their national album tour, Wagons said, after some time spent breaking into foreign markets, it was great to be traversing Australian roads.

''Yeah we're looking forward to this tour, big time;' the Melbourne singersongwriter enthused.

''We have been spending quite a bit of time touring over in North America which was just a bit too full of bad coffee - although, even though we're from Melbourne, we don't think everything should be about lattes - so it's going to be great to get back to some of our favourite haunts:'

With smatterings of horns, strings and lush production, Add Rain and Sugar Cane could well be Wagons most cohesive and fully realised album yet - a senti-

ment with which the songwriter agrees. "I'd say I'm more proud of this record than anything else I've ever done;' he said.

"There is this eternal struggle that I'm sure a lot of bands go through with the relationship between how you sound live and what happens in the studio.

"I mean, some of my favourite records, like Neil Young's Harvest or Bob Dylan and the Band's Basement Tapes were more about a moment in time where the feel and vibe of what was going on was way more important than microphone placement - so we wanted to make this as live as possible so you can really hear that

space - and I think we achieved that:' To help achieve this live vibe, the band enlisted the services of former Bad Seed Mick Harvey, whose previous production credits include the likes of Pl Harvey, to co-produce.

"We basically thought that if we're going to relinquish control to someone, Mick Harvey is definitely a good choice;' he said.

"He has such an impressive resume and he really made us want to press our metaphorical shirts each day - you know, we really wanted to impress him and I think this really helped raise the bar creatively for us:'

X-Men: Days of Future Past [Rated M] Reviewed at Event Cinemas Glendale by Stephen Bisset

:PIS

After bowing out of the X-Men franchise after two instalments, director Bryan Singer makes a welcome return to the fold in this time-travelling thrill ride. This time around, it's not looking good for the world's mutants as a horde of sentinent robots called Sentinels are hell-bent on decimating their population. The Sentinels were called into use after the mutant Mystique assassinated their lead designer Bolivar Trask (peter Dinklage). Mystique was captured and her DNA used to create these mutant destroyers. Mortal enemies Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) join forces to send Wolverine (Hugh lackman) back in time to convince their younger selves (James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender) ofthe danger to come.

While the film does tend to get bogged down a little with a weighty script, the calibre of the actors more than make up for this. The CGI is, as you would expect, fantastic with some jaw dropping set pieces.

Sunshine on Leith [Rated PG] 3/5 Reviewed at Tower Cinemas, Newcastle by Amelia Parrott

The Scottish city of Edinburgh meets Mama Mia! head on in the silver screen adaptations of the rollicking jukebox musical, Sunshine on Leith.

Taking its name from the platinum selling album by the Proclaimers, this feel-good film is set to a slew of songs from the Scottish twins including I'm On My Way and I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). The story is simple but has plenty of heart. Ally (Kevin Guthrie) and Davy (George MacKay), two lads from Leith, return home after six months serving in Afghanistan.

But life in isn't all sunshine and roses in the outer suburbs of the Scottish capital. Davy's parents' marriage is rocked by scandal on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary and a failed proposal sees Ally's relationship fall apart.

The plot may be simple and the notion of soldiers dancing down the streets of Edinburgh after six months of service unlikely, but if you're in the mood for a light -hearted flick that will pull on your heartstrings Sunshine on Leith is thoroughly enjoyable.

Aweallhol experience

At the age of 12, when a guitar was placed in his hands, it wasn't hard to tell that Ben Travis was destined to be a perfonner. After years of playing in bands, duos and trios fine tuning his performance skills it was time to take the leap and play the way he has always loved. Stripped back and acoustic.

"I live for the moments my guitar is in my hand, for the moments that I am singing into a microphone. I forget all my troubles, all my problems and everything, for at least those few minutes, feels perfect," he said.

By The age of 20 Ben had already performed with high profile artists such as The Screaming Jets, Anastasia, Chris Isaak, James Rayne, Kid Courageous and Grinspoon. Perfonned at venues such as The Newcastle and Sydney Entertainment Centres, recorded an EP and toured Malaysia with his band.

Now at the age of 23, all of those experiences as well as seven years fronting local cover band Sundays Record shine through. The ability to play just about any request you can shout out in a catchy, fun, unique style that will leave you wanting more. He is also known for his quirky abilities in between songs or sets, "seal like" balancing tricks, card tricks and a joke here or there.

From Chuck Berry to Katy Perry and anywhere in between, Ben has what it takes to not only entertain but engage a crowd.

EAT OUT THIS WEEKEND

eae pulls oul all Ihe slops STEPHEN BISSET

Proving that club dining is so much more that the humble chicken schnitty or T-bone, the staff at CBC Bar and Grill at Charlestown Bowling club

pulled out all the stops, last week, for the finals of the 2014 Clubs NSW Chef's Table competition.

Aimed at developing and challenging the skills of chefs and apprentices working in clubs throughout the state, the competition is now in its tenth year, with the Hunter being represented by Charlestown Bowling Club and Wests New Lambton.

With the 2014 key ingredient being spatchcock, CBC executive chef Greg Hawke and sous chef Damien McInnes created, for 25 guests (including TE) and three Clubs NSW judges, a three course menu that would not be out of place in

some of the country's best restaurants. The evening got off to a flying start with

an eclectic spatchcock "tasting plate" that was one of the finest entree's I've been lucky enough to sample. First off, a delicately flavoured spatchcock and shiitake mushroom terrine with spiced tomato chutney was truly out of this world while a confit spatchcock in a thyme and lemon

scented jellied consomme was simply amazing. Last, but by no means least, a pickled spatchcock drumstick with a cucumber and mint salad provided a zesty freshness to the entree while the accompaniment of a New Zealand sauvignon blanc, a Victorian pino grirgio and a South Australian dry reisling, respectively, took this dish to the next level.

With our taste buds piqued in anticipation of what was to come, all expectations were blown out of the water with the main - oven roasted spatchcock, basted with tarragon butter with heirloom vegetables, onions, parsnip, chicken jus and a bemaise sauce. Elevating the humble "roast dinner" to dizzying new heights chef Hawke proved, with this dish, that you can improve on the classics.

A perfectly roasted and succulent spatchcock, with some of the most delicious stuffing I've had in recent memory, was definitely the star of this plate however the combination of chicken jus and bernaise sauce had to be tasted to be believed.

With a new appreciation for all things spatchcock, myself and my dining partner thought things couldn't get much better until, of course, dessert - one of the most adventurous I've ever seen come out of a club kitchen - arrived in the form of avocado parfait with a slice of chili chocolate tart and poached rhubarb. While the idea of an avocado parfait may seem strange to some, when combined with the richness and invigorating heat from the chocolate tart, the result was a depth of flavour that will live long in the memory.

The Chef's Table winners will be announced at an awards dinner at Campbelltown Catholic Club on Monday July 21.

MUSIC

We three kings

W hen the phrase 'country music icons' is uttered, three names almost instantly come

to mind -Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers.

STEPHEN BISSET

The three rougish balladeers have left their indelible mark on not just country but popular music in general with such brilliantly evocative songs as Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, On The Road Again, You Were Always On My Mind, The Gambler and Ruben James.

Now, Novocastrians have the chance to see the next best thing when an unforgettable tribute to the country masters -The Kings Of Country -makes its way to Wests Leagues next month.

Direct from the good 01' US of A, the show will feature Marion Deaton as Willie Nelson, Phillip Bauer as Johnny Cash and Marty Edwards as Kenny Rogers in doppelganger-like performances that are sure to leave you gobsmacked.

Speaking to TE from down the line somewhere on the road in Los Angeles, Kenny R- ahem, Marty Edwards said, after a hugely successful Antipodean run in 2012, the boys couldn't wait to get back to our shores.

"We had an absolute blast last time we were down there - it's such an amazing place and everyone really made us feel welcome," he said.

Edwards, who was a recording artist in his own right before a record producer convinced him to tryon the guise of Kenny some 15 years ago, said the show would be a catalogue of the best of the best from the three legends as well as a few surprises thrown in for good measure.

"There are certain songs by all three

guys that everyone is always going to want to hear which kinda makes choosing a set a little easier," he said. "We're going to be doing our own thing then there'll be an intermission and we'll all come out and share the stage - it's pretty exciting."

Edwards, whose time as Kenny has seen him perform on Oprah and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, said he still had to pinch himself considering the places Kenny has taken him - even meeting the great man.

"It was after a show and I was there with the Govenor of Montana and Kenny came in and shook my hand and we chatted for a bit - it was very surreal for both me and him. When he left he actually tuned to me and said "now don't go getting me into any trouble."

MUSIC MUSIC There's gonna be so.e rockln' Arc de Triolliphe

While he may've passed away 34 years ago, original AC/DC frontman Bon Scott still looms large in the history of Australian rock and roll.

Let There Be Bon is a highly energetic and entertaining show that respectfully pays tribute to the early years of Acca Dacca.

The band authentically reproduces all the hits from the High Voltage album through to the massive Highway to Hell - the album that established AC/DC as one of the biggest rock and roll bands on the planet.

Let There Be Bon are five mates who are long-time devoted Acca Dacca diehards. All five are very experienced performers and are dedicated to recreating the sound, enthusiasm and energy of a 1970S pub rock-era AC/DC. Formed in 2012, the band has performed dozens of shows, establishing themselves as a formidable live act.

Highlights of the band's relatively brief history include opening for the likes of The Radiators, Daryl Braithwaite and James Reyne .

STEPHEN BISSET

A fier setting many tongues wagging with their mesmerisingly exquisite collection of

delicately arranged "melancholy pop" -2012's!n an Ocean of Sacrifice -Newcastle four-piece Hudson Arc are set to go one better with the release of album number two, The Motive of Hope.

Frontman Gareth Hudson told TE that the new album represented much more of a collaborative phase for the band.

''It's been two years since the last album and we have been pretty much writing constantly since then;' he said.

''With the first album, the band had only just come together and some of those songs had been floating around for six or seven years also, this one is much more of a collaborative effort - I write most of the string arrangements and stuff, but to see the girls [ Tadijana Ilicic (violin), Jamie Pollock (viola) and Rachel Pogson (cello)] throw their own spin on things and breathe life into those arrangements is quite amazing:'

For the uninitiated, Hudson Arc is the brainchild of musician/composer/ producer Gareth Hudson, who comes with an impressive career behind him producing award-winning artists including The Buddy Knox Blues Band,

Amy Vee and Auriel Andrew. He has also recorded with artists including The Hilltop Hoods, The Last Kinection and Briggs. Hudson teamed up with gifted string trio Ensemble Arc and the end result is a marriage of intricate string layers, driving rhythms and intense dynamics created by Hudson's technique oflooping vocals, percussion, didgeridoo and acoustic guitar at live performances.

The band are sure to be in "well-oiled machine" mode when they launch the album in Newcastle this weekend, having recently come off a 24-date tour of Germany and Holland.

"Yeah we had an awesome time and

played a bunch of really varied venues from little cafes with around 30 people to bigger rooms with 300 people - we even played in a washing salon, well a kind of laundrette/cafe/music venue which was pretty unique.

"We were just blown away with how we were received over there - especially in Germany. Just the spreads people but on for us - I reckon I put on 2S-kilos over there;' he laughed.

Hudson said the band promised to pull out all stops for the Newcastle launch.

"The girls are sure to be in full-on mode, there'll be a few special guest cameos and maybe even a dead philosopher:'

Death 01 a nipple salesman I

fthere's one thing you should bear in mind when going to see Southern Californian singer-songwriter Steve Poltz it's that this is one guy who doesn't like to let the truth get

in the way of a good story.

STEPHEN BISSET

His live shows, equal parts masterful guitar playing, nimble delivery, wry observations and out and out comedy, have become stuff of legend and he will be making his thirteenth trip Down Under next month.

For the uninitiated he described a Steve Poltz show thusly: "It's kinetic, it's full of live energy and its kind of a mixture of laughter and lies;' he laughed.

"There is a large element of comedy in what happens on stage but it's never planned - people often tell me that I'm accidentally funny, but I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not:' In keeping with this ''laughter and lies"

line, Paltz even 'fessed up to his career being less about taking his music to as many people as possible than it is about a global Breaking Bad, Heisenberg adventure.

"The truth of the matter is the whole music thing is a cover for a huge meth operation that I've been running for quite some time now - I make it all and my tour manager sells it - it's quite a profitable little operation;' he said.

"Music sucks anyway it's too damn noisy:' If that is the case, Poltz is leading a

pretty convincing double life, having parlayed a fanatical following for his first band The Rugburns into a career

that has seen him become one of the most revered songwriters of his generation, collaborating with the likes of Jewel [ Poltz co-wrote Jewell's runaway smash hit You Were Meant For Me], Glenn Tillbrook and Mojo

Nixon and having people like Neil Young counting one of Poltz's albums (1999'S Answering Machine) as his favourite album of all time.

His seemingly lighthearted approach belies a fingerstyle guitar technique that has axe boffins salivating and a way of delivering lyrics that range from heartbreakingly sincere to utterly hilarious - from topics as diverse as murder, divorce, Johnny Cash, sewing machines and transvestites.

Poltz said it was a decision to pack his bags and try his luck as a muso on the streets of Europe that cemented his lifelong love oftouring and performing.

"After I graduated from college, I had a job as a nipple salesman - I like saying nipple salesman but I was actually selling pipe nipples that go on the ends of sprinkler systems -but nipple salesman sounds much more interesting; he said.

''Anyway, I was doing that and playing clubs at night and one day I told my boss that I wanted to go and play on the streets of Europe and he said "what, like a bum?" and I said "yeah" and he said "well go be a bum"

''I realised while in Europe, after having various people put you up at their house and stuff, that I never really had to work again - so I've been doing it ever since.

"Funny thing is, though, is that I'm still friends with that boss and he said there is always a place for me as a nipple salesman so it's nice to have something to fall back on:'

Get on Bar Pong

I f throwing balls into plastic cups is your thing, well Adamstown Bowling Club certainly have you covered with their Wednesday night Bar Pong competition.

Bar Pong (commonly known as Beer Pong) is played with two teams of two players that stand at opposite ends of a Bar Pong table. Each team has ten cups arranged in a triangular formation in front of them, with water poured in.

Basically, the aim, as you take turns, is to throw your ping pong ball into the opposing team's cups. Whichever cup your ping pong ball lands in the opposing team has to drink the contents of the cup and then that cup then is put to one side and is now out of the game.

You have your turn then your team-mate has theirs, then the opposing team will do the same until all of the cups have been removed/consumed from one side of the table, first team to do so wins. Easy.

All the Bar Pong action will be on at Adamstown BowUng Club every Wednesday night -7Pm rego for 8pm start.

Do you wanna bump? STEPHEN BISSET

W hen it comes to the hedonistic heyday of disco, with such dance

floor fillers as Ma Baker, Rasputin, Daddy Cool and Rivers of Babylon, few could hold a candle to Eurodisco juggernaut Boney M.

Now, 38 years after original members Maizie Williams, Bobby Farrell, Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell hit musical paydirt with the flirtatious number Daddy Cool, it seems people still can't get enough of Boney M with the band heading to Newcastle next month as part of a national tour.

''It's been a long time since we were in Australia and we're quite excited to be coming back - it's going to be an awful lot of fun;' Mazie Williams told TE.

an amazing time for music - there was just so much energy and so much talent - it truly was an amazingtime?'

"The show is going fill of energy, glitz, glamour, dancing and of course all of the Boney M hits?'

When it comes to hits, with more than 159 million album sold as well as 18 platinum and 15 gold albums to their credit, Boney M certainly have no shortage.

Williams, who was an aspiring model before joining the Boney M fold, said she had no idea that the group would become such a force and that she felt priveliged to be part of such an iconic time in popular music history.

Williams put Boney M's longevity down to the fact that they were able to weave great stories into some ridiculously catchy melodies.

"It really was all about those melodies - they just stay in your head;' she said.

Originally created by German record producer Frank Farlan (the impresario behind the infamous Milli Vanilli), Boney M quickly

''You always hope that things you are involved in are going to be successful, but no one had any idea that Boney M would take off like it did;' she said.

"Equally important though, I think, were the stories in songs like Ma Baker, and Rasputin, not to mention that highly danceable beat?'

"That period in the 1970s was just the best time ever - it was just such

COMEDY

Let the laughs roll on

A fier 15 years of traversing the many highways and byways of this wide,

brown land we call Australia, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is back with another jam-packed tour.

With a mix oflocal heroes and international stars as well as the hottest new discoveries of the Festival, all the comedy bases will be covered with the 2014 roll call including Cal Wilson (pictured), Beau Heartbreaker, Greg Behrendt, Ronny Chieng and Newcastle's own Rhys Nicholson.

Cal Wilson came across the Tasman in 2003 and, thanks to appearances on such shows as Spicks n Specks, Good News Week and Thank God You're Here has gone on to become one of our most popular comics.

Packed with hilarious tales of worldly adventures and brilliantly composed songs, Beau Heartbreaker astonishing vocal ability, depth and sincerity is remarkably convincing. After some significant time away from the stage, Selina Jenkins' anticipated return, as widely loved character Beau Heartbreaker has not gone unnoticed. A brilliant, lifelong comedian who accidentally became co-author of the inescapable bestseller He's Just Not That

Into You, Greg Behrendt should be known for many things, yet he is singularly recognised worldwide as 'That Guy From That Thing'. He was the host of the weirdly-named Greg Behrendt Show and

acclaimed podcast Walking The Room.

Newcastle born and bred, Rhys Nicholson is

one of Australia's most outstanding young comedians. A 2009 RAW Comedy finalist and winner of the 2012 Time Out Award for Best Newcomer at

the Sydney Comedy Festival, Rhys' brand of wry

humour and sardonic wit have developed his trademark for hilarious social commentary.

A regular on the lists of rising comedians and faces to watch, Ronny Chieng won the Best Newcomer award at the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festivals (MICF) for his debut stand up show, The Ron Way. The criticallyacclaimed show sold out its entire MICF season including extra shows, and received rave reviews at the Sydney Comedy Festival the same year.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival will be on at the Civic Theatre for three perfonnances on June 6 (Spm), June 7 (8pm) and June 8 (2pm).
