WORLD MAP

NEW ZEALAND may be said to consist of two islands—the North Island and the South Island separated by Cook Strait.

Cook Strait lies between the North

and South Islands of New Zealand. It connects the Tasman Sea on the northwest with the South Pacific Ocean on the southeast, and runs next to the capital city, Wellington.

New Zealand has a reputation as a provider of

quality education offering excellent study

opportunities and support services in a safe

learning environment.

New Zealand's national education

system is based on the British

system. Research indicates New Zealand

students are ranked amongst the top in

the world academically.

Information and

Communication Technology (ICT)

ICT refers to the computer and

telecommunications systems used for teaching,

research and administration in schools.

Standards for upgrading school computer

systems

To take advantage of digital teaching resources

and various Ministry initiatives, schools need to

have a robust ICT cabling network infrastructure

including appropriate switches and servers.

Schools must follow the Network Standards for

upgrades (ICT Standards)when upgrading,

developing or altering a school’s computer

network infrastructure.

The Institute of IT Professionals (IITP) is a

non-profit incorporated society in New

Zealand.

As New Zealand's ICT professional body, the

IITP exists to promote education and ensure

a high level of professional practice amongst

ICT professionals. Before July 2012, IITP

was known as the New Zealand Computer

Society Inc (NZCS).

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION

TECHNOLOGIES IN SCHOOLS.

DIGITAL LITERACY‘Digital literacy’ builds upon ‘traditional

literacy’ to incorporate the skills needed

to make sense of information so we can

become confident and capable users and

creators of web-based information, and

flexible and adaptable to new

technologies. More importantly, we need

to develop critical thinking skills in order

to make sense of the information

presented by these new technologies.

Now, more than any period in time,

information is freely available and often at

the press of a button. Children and adults

need to question this information to

determine its relevance and accuracy.

DIGITAL LITERACY SKILLS INCLUDE

BEING ABLE TO:

* source information

* critically question

* determine the relevance and accuracy of

information

* create information wisely

* gain experience with a number of tools (both

ICT and non ICT)

* collaborate

* have knowledge about safe practice and

copyright.

INTRODUCING THE WORLD OF

BLOGGING

A weblog is an online

space for sharing and

learning. You can sign

and you are given

your own web page

PEDAGOGY – THE ART OF

TEACHING

Pedagogy is the way we teach,

the strategies behind our

teaching and the focus of our

teaching. Pedagogy is also

about learning; one cannot

teach without being a learner.

Understanding what is involved

in the process of being a learner

is part of pedagogy.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING

‘Digital storytelling is the modern

expression of the ancient art of

storytelling. Digital stories derive

their power by weaving together

images, music, narrative and

voice together, thereby giving

deep dimension and vivid colour

to characters, situations,

experiences, and insights.’

3D technology a boon to Education

3D learning is a new

approach to understand distance learning.

It helps us to remember more and in a easy

way.

The grasping power of the students as well

as their interest increases with it .

Everything becomes quicker to learn and

children absorb new concepts, and display

higher levels of concentration.

3D PRINTING IN EDUCATION

3D printing is a process of making a 3-Dimensional solid object of virtually any shape, from a digital model.

3D printing is achieved using an “additive process”, where successive layers of material are laid down in different shapes.

3D printing is considered distinct from traditional machining techniques, which mostly rely on the removal of material by methods such as cutting or drilling.

explore creativity and to develop critical thinking

skills around technology.

The reason why we offered so many different

ideas was to enable the students to explore an

area that was new for them – because when

you find something out yourself that’s new to

you.

connect with the excitement of learning and you

can apply it better to the children.
