MAORIS

The Maori are the native people of New Zealand

They arrived in New Zealand between 1250 and 1300 BC

The Maori language is one of the three official languages of New Zealand

since 1987

Traditional Maori art was created using the materials available at the time,

such as wood, bone, paua shell, flax, and feathers

Three collections of her stories were published while she lived

Two collections were published after death

The Times said: “She sees everything much more vividly that we do”

She died in tuberculosis at the age of only 34
