Professor Sherry Glied is Dean of New York University’s Robert F.

Wagner Graduate School of Public Service

Professor Glied was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary

for Planning and Evaluation at the Department of Health and Human

Services (2010-2012). She and her team had an extensive role in

drafting the policy contents of President Barak Obama’s Affordable

Health Care Act, that extended access to affordable health care for

millions of Americans. She was former Senior Economist for health care

and labor market policy on the President’s Council of Economic

Advisers, under Presidents Bush and Clinton (1992-1993).

Dr. Dennis S. Charney is Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Dean of the

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and President for

Academic Affairs for the Mount Sinai Health System. He is also a

world expert in the neurobiology and treatment of mood and

anxiety disorders.

Since Dr. Charney was named Dean in 2004, the Icahn School of

Medicine has risen to, and has maintained, its strength among

the top 20 institutions in National Institutes of Health (NIH)

funding, and it currently ranks fifth in funding per faculty

member from the NIH and other sources.

Dr. Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer,

Mount Sinai Health System, is widely recognized as a visionary

leader who has placed The Mount Sinai Medical Center at the

forefront of health care in New York City.

Dr. Davis was appointed CEO of The Mount Sinai Medical Center in

2003. Prior to his appointment, Mount Sinai was losing millions of

dollars per year. Noting five years of improved financial

performance and a “culture of accountability,” Moody’s Investor

Service upgraded the Hospital’s rating to A2 in July 2009. That

year, the Medical Center was also named among the nation’s top

20 hospitals by U.S. News & World Report, earning Honor Roll

status.

collaboration. It is considered on of the Ivory League

Schools in the US ranking 3 in public health

Proposed Speaker: Prof. Michael S. Sparer

Professor Michael S. Sparer, PhD, JD, is the Chair of Health

Policy & Management at the Mailman School of Public

Health. He is an expert in the politics of health care, with a

particular emphasis on the health insurance and health

delivery systems for low-income populations, and the ways

in which inter-governmental relations influences policy.

Professor Sparer is the former editor of the Journal of

Health Politics, Policy and Law, and the author of Medicaid

and the Limits of State Health Reform, as well as numerous

articles and book chapters.

Dr. Jo Ivey Boufford, is President of The New York Academy

of Medicine. Dr. Boufford is Professor Emeritus of Public

Service, Health Policy and Management at the Robert F.

Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and Clinical

Professor of Pediatrics at New York University School of

Medicine. She is Co-Director of the National Program Office

of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholars Program.

She was Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health in

the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

from 1993 to 97, and as Acting Assistant Secretary in 1997.

From 1991-93 she was Director of the King’s Fund College,

London, in the UK.

Proposed Speaker: Dr. Richard Park

Dr. Richard Park, is the CEO of CityMD, the leading urgent

care ambulatory provider in the NY Metro Area. With over

200 full time board certified physicians, CityMD cared for

millions of patient visits with one main focus - Faster,

Dr. Park studied medicine at the Albert Einstein College of

Medicine of the Yeshiva University.
