The reason for this being, of course, that there are few men who can recall it. Patrolman Ben Steers, senior op- erator of the Queens Telegraph Bu- i reau, still has a soft spot in his heart lor the station house where, as a rookie, he hung his helmet and stick. So far as he can recollect Mundy was one of the few surviving bosses who managed Ozone Park police affairs back In 1910. The late James Oliver Curwood was one of the few novelists who took time out from his wrjtings to give help to struggling young writers. He did not mind in the least having peo- ple send him their stories and novels to read, and he would return them- with a generous criticism. Nor did ha mind the odd assortment of would- be writers who used to drop in on him at his studio workshop out to Owosso, Mich., and say: "I want to become a writer, Mr. Curwood. What advice can you give me?'* No matter who the person was, Mr. [ Arden, a glamorous and beautiful Curwood had a stock reply. "Sit down motion picture actress on a personal anri writ* and write, and write. Bltt' appearance tOUT. * above all, writs about the things you know." Write about the things you know! That sounds like good common sense. And yet, there is one young playwright who has managed to be quite success- ful writing of something he doesn't know. This is Lawrence Riley, who is responsible for "Personal Appear- ance," the comedy hit at Henry Mil- ler's Theatre in Manhattan. Until last October Riley was a com- paratively unknown writer. He had sold stories to the pulp magazines with fair regularity, out you can't exactly call that fame. Like most writers, he wanted to write a play, so he sat down and wrote one. It was "Per- sonal Appearance." The story of the play concerns it- self with the adventures of Carole OLDSMOBILE COUPE—1927 EXCELLENT CONDITION—825 M-36 232nd ST.. The death last week of retired have been urged to evolve Ideas for lieutenant Daniel S. Mundy was an I anti-accident propaganda. No longer opportunity for the "old guard" to is it left to the.captain or to one of r e c a l l that Ozone Park police once did their tours out of a renovated moving picture

It is many long years ago, to be sure, and the old building still stands at 101st avenue a n d 9 9 t h street, O z o n e Frank Keating

Park, but it isn't very often now that the building and the scenes that it housed get into conversation. The reason for this being, of course, that there are few men who can recall it.

Patrolman Ben Steers, senior operator of the Queens Telegraph Bu- i reau, still has a soft spot in his heart lor the station house where, as a rookie, he hung his helmet and stick. So far as he can recollect Mundy was one of the few surviving bosses who managed Ozone Park police affairs back In 1910. ' Captain Albert Ruth-enberg, the last commander of the bouse, retired and died many years

One of the trials of most well-known writers is the frequent requests they receive to read the manuscripts of others.

The late James Oliver Curwood was one of the few novelists who took time out from his wrjtings to give help to struggling young writers. He did not mind in the least having people send him their stories and novels to read, and he would return them-with a generous criticism. Nor did ha mind the odd assortment of would-be writers who used to drop in on him at his studio workshop out to Owosso, Mich., and say:

"I want to become a writer, Mr. Curwood. What advice can you give me?'*

No matter who the person was, Mr. [ Arden, a glamorous and beautiful Curwood had a stock reply. "Sit down motion picture actress on a personal anri writ* a n d write , a n d write . B l t t ' a p p e a r a n c e tOUT. *

This is Lawrence Riley, who is responsible for "Personal Appearance," the comedy hit at Henry Miller's Theatre in Manhattan.

Until last October Riley was a comparatively unknown writer. He had sold stories to the pulp magazines with fair regularity, out you can't exactly call that fame. Like most writers, he wanted to write a play, so he sat down and wrote one. It was "Personal Appearance."

The story of the play concerns itself with the adventures of Carole
