EBECRYL®8896, EBECRYL®8894
Introduction
• Soft touch is one of the most popular aesthetic trends in the coating market
• It is extensively used in the consumer electronics, appliances, automotive interiors, packaging and furniture markets to impart a luxurious feel to substrates that have an beauteous feel.
• EBECRYL® 8896 / EBECRYL® 8894 are the newly developed resins for direct and film coating that imparts excellent soft feel features while maintaining supberb scratch & abrasion resistance performance.

UV Soft touch
Product feel plays a decisive role in consumer’s decision purchasing process. Even though feel is critical to the sale, there is no unified haptic scale because touch is subjective and unique from person to person. Therefore, it is important that resin(s) system have tunable feels
• Haptic normally means the following different feelings:
Silk feeling/velvet feeing
Rubbery feeling
Leather feeling
Others..
• In real world, formulators look not only for haptic solutions, but also to fulfill special performance requirements. So Allnex has developed the 2nd generation haptic resin solutions by improving other performance requirements beyond having a soft touch.

Function: In case of the adhesion problem with ABS, PC & PC/ABS, this primer formulation is suggested to coat underneath the soft touch coating. It can also help to improve the tear resistance to heavy nail scratch. A slightly tack of the primer surface can further improve the cohesion.

Question & Answer
Q1: Can other soft feelings be reached besides rubber, velvet & leather feeling?
Answer: Absolutely. You can get all kinds of soft feelings by blending EBECRYL®8896 with EBECRYL 8894 or other oligomers, fillers.
Q2: How to reduce the smell of cured film?
Answer: Smell comes from photoinitiators. ESACURE ONE* and IRGACURE 754 & 2959** are proved to be good choices. Of course, you can follow proposals from photoinitiators producers.
Q3: Do matting agent have an effect on soft feeling? How to disperse it well?
Answer: Yes, absolutely. And different matting agent gives different soft feeling. But the binder is the most crucial. EBECRYL 331 can disperse matt agents well and EBECRYL 1360 is a good anti-float agent.
Q4: Which solvents are suitable to use?
Answer: Solvents such as esters, alcohol ethers, ester ethers, ketones are preferred.
Q5: How to get high film thickness while the liquid coating is low solid content at spraying phase?
Answer: Usually, film thickness should be 35-50μm to get desirable soft feeling. So double sprayings are needed and the process is spraying, short-time flash off and spraying again.
Q6: How to improve the QUV and hydrolysis resistance?
Answer: You can improve it with co-binder EBECRYL 8894.
