We like each other a lot and work together extremely well. We had our astrological chart done and our compatibility rating was very high. We have a lot of the same likes and dislikes in the way we choose to live our lives. Rob is a very structural person with a great business mind, and he’s very creative. I am also very creative but I am the promoter. We make a good team that way. Without his structure and business sense, I could be lost. Rob: We are committed to seeing our relationship as a mirror of our interior landscapes. By practic- ing in other relationships, we’ve learned that what is going on in our world is literally an outpictur- ing of what’s going on with us. So we realize that when something bugs us about the other, it’s some- thing unresolved and personal that bugs us and it is being called forth in the personage of our partner. Brenda: It’s about taking person- al responsibility for those parts of yourself instead of projecting onto your partner. Krysta: I like what you said about practicing in other relation- ships. So often people look at prior relationships as failures. You said it so beautifully. Once you integrate what happened in a relationship, turn it into “That was practice.” Brenda: And it is good for people to know that although we say the relationship works, we also work at it. We do stumble and fall and have to pick ourselves up and remind each other. We do that con- stantly. We own our stuff. Krysta: What have been the greatest challenges with your radio show? Brenda: We created a commer- cial show with a broader audience and we’re dependent on advertis- ing dollars that come and go. That is a natural flow. The economy is up and down so keeping the flow as steady as you can is the biggest challenge. We don’t have the major sponsors because not as many people are conscious. Our goal in being the morning show was to offer a different note for people’s day so they could wake up to a positive tone. Krysta: And you do it well. How do you deal with the concept of competition? There are so many radio programs and these days just about anyone can have a show on the Internet. Rob: Our attitude, which we adopted some time ago, is to bake more pies. Instead of seeing one pie everyone has to share, we look at it as everyone baking more pies. Instead of looking at it in a limited point of view, we say the more this sort of information is available, the more people get involved. We had faith that the quality of what we put out was good enough we would get a portion of this audi- ence and it would be enough. We went in that direction and that has helped us. Brenda: We try to live with an attitude of abundance. There is enough to go around. Culturally, society hasn’t accepted this. Society says we have to get our piece of the pie before others do. We don’t believe this. We each play our part and this is the part we are playing. We come from that attitude and belief. Sure, there are days we get discouraged and some- times we stumble. Theirs have been welcoming, energizing, and comforting voices on the radio airwaves for the past 11 years. Many commuters in the Seattle area set the tone for their day by listening to Brenda Michaels and Rob Spears on the Conscious Talk radio program. “In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” –Dietrich Bonhoeffer

I have been asked time and again how I got so lucky. I am blessed, but lucky? What is this thing called luck? Dictionary.com defines luck as “having good luck, bringing or foretelling good luck. Hmm, doesn’t really tell me what it is. Webster’s online dictionary definition of luck is much more detailed. Webster’s appears to know that luck can be good or bad, accidental and by-chance, can be an entity as well as a fallacy. Luck can be an essence, spiritual, or supernatural. It can be a belief or superstition and a self-fulfilling prophecy. I like this one. Yes, it rings true with me. Now, is luck the same as prosperity? If not, then what is prosperity? Prosperity, according to Webster’s, is economic growth, sustainable development, capitalism, and collectivism. There have even been studies done on prosperity. While Webster’s ideas on prosperity are tangible, I think luck (prosperity) in metaphysical terms is not so tangible. Dictionary.com defines prosperity as a successful, flourishing, or thriving condition, especially

coffee line. And that person pays for the next person, and so on and so on. How many people will have a terrific day because of this? Chances are they all will have a terrific day and will want to continue to carry on this positive energy to others. The law of attraction is not all about doing good deeds. Our minds are like magnets, attracting back to us the nature of every thought we have. Our thoughts can attract or repel prosperity. When we

think of our lives as prosperous, we are operating consciously on that energy vibration. As the psychic level of our minds sends out psychic energy, we are united with things and circumstances that will lead to more prosperity. On this psychic level we are also attracting people who are on the same energy level. In a psychic nutshell, good-time thinking attracts good times and bad-time thinking attracts bad times. Our subconscious is the memory bank of the mind. Positive or negative thought patterns accumulate in this memory bank. If we continue to accumulate negative thoughts about money and prosperity, the memory bank of the mind must be cleared and re-programmed. Reprogramming of the subconscious can be done through correctly

stated affirmations. A state of mind that acknowledges that good and prosperity can reach you and be yours in many ways is truly a prosperity mentality. Here is an affirmation to try: “I am prosperous already because I am one with the all-creating universal source of all things. And so it is.” In this example, the word “already” conditions the mind that this is an already established fact. “And so it is” is affirming that you already have it. Here’s another one: “In the perfect mind of the universe, financial prosperity is mine already... this moment... and I give thanks. And so it is.” Each day take hold of your mind, your thoughts, and your mental attitude. Nullify any thoughts of lack or limitation as they enter your mind. Acknowledge and build upon thoughts that create or promote a state of mind within you that seems to say, “Prosperity is a natural course of universal life, individualized in me.” Another good practice is to acknowledge through thanks. Each day give thanks to your divine source for whatever prosperity you receive, as you receive it. This acknowledges your source constantly in your mind and creates a mental atmosphere that is open to receive still more. Begin to recognize prosperity and rejoice in it. Recognize that all this is part of your abundance, and you are increasing your consciousness to partake of the things you desire.

in financial respects. It is further defined as good-fortune and prosperous circumstances. Bingo. That’s what I am looking for. This definition affirms my belief that we all can change our circumstances. We have the ability to create, change, alter, and enhance our circumstances. We can flourish no matter what the economy, the environment, and what the collective society is doing. In metaphysics there are three major aspects of prosperity. They are, 1) attracting what you want; 2) correctly stating affirmations and; 3) visualization. The law of attracting prosperity is stated in terms of cause and effect and is simple, “to receive, give.” When you give money think of it as going forth and prospering others in a chain reaction that reaches around the world and eventually returns to you with ever greater power and thus, multiplied to you many times over. A nice example of this is when you pay for the person behind you in the

Mark your calendars!

If we want to grow and evolve as conscious spiritual beings, one of the most important things we must learn to do is look very deeply at everything around us, and in us, so that we can see what is really there. We spend years being indoctrinated by whatever culture we’re born into. We’re taught “how life is:” all the things we should and should not do, say, and think. The process takes quite a bit of time to accomplish. When completed, another person who runs on automatic has been formed, ready to take her or his place with the rest of humankind. Fortunately, we are usually given the opportunity to change our programming. There are many different ways that people awaken to their spirituality, but in most cases what happens is some sort of seeing through to the other side, to the spirit side of reality rather than just seeing the physical side. Once this has happened, most people

cannot return to their former ways of being or doing. What also happens frequently, though, is that we keep only a slight thread that reaches into the world of spirit and continue to live our lives as we had in the past. Sometimes we don’t question enough; we simply try to slip our spiritual personality on over our programmed one and then wonder why we don’t see many changes in our lives! Exactly what sort of questions can we ask? What in this world can we look more deeply into? And how can we do the asking? What sort of attitude can we hold which will help us do this? Our attitude can be one of openness, of willingness to see where we have not seen

in the past. It can be one of requesting that we be shown truth, the truth about life, the world, and about ourselves. I like to imagine myself sitting on top of a small mountain that is covered with flowers, trees, a small lake, and lots of friendly creatures. I sit on the ground with my hands in my lap, palms turned upward to signify my openness to Spirit and my willingness to release current attitudes and beliefs. Then I ask away, remaining receptive to whatever concepts, images, thoughts, and feelings I may have. I wait with gratitude. And Spirit never disappoints. Sometimes I don’t like what I receive. Other times I don’t understand

it right away. But, I always receive some form of communication that deepens my understanding and appreciation of life. Asking to see how the world and life really are is one of the most profitable exercises we can do. If we begin to see life as it is rather than how it has been presented to us, what a difference this can make in where we choose to invest our energies.

For instance, many of us have been taught that what counts is to get ahead, to have good jobs that pay a lot of money. We have been taught that what material goods we acquire while here determines how well we have done with our lives. To die a pauper is shameful, we have been taught. To die wealthy with lots of houses, cars, and money is an honor. Is that really true? We are born into this world with nothing except a body, mind, emotions, spirit, and whatever luggage we choose to bring along from other lifetimes. We have no material goods of our own at all. When we die we take with us exactly the same things, plus whatever growth in spiritual understanding we have acquired

while on earth. I have not seen anyone able to take their material possessions with them when they die (although a few have certainly tried by being buried in their favorite vehicles, etc.). By seeing through this, we grant ourselves tremendous freedom to pursue whatever is truly important to us and our spiritual growth. And maybe that will be the acquiring of material possessions and money. But if it is, we will be doing the acquiring for a higher purpose than simply to go along with what the world says we must do in order to be a success. Another area we can seek to see clearly about is ourselves. Is it true that we are powerless beings, at the beck-and-call of anyone perceived to have more power than we do, people such as parents, authority figures, legal structures, bosses, and teachers? No, we are not powerless. By entering this society we do agree to certain structures. And in most cases this means we will abide by rules and laws set down before us. But, we do so as a conscious decision to do this rather than because we feel it has been imposed on us from outside. We can question and ask to be shown about anything and everything in our lives: what is the purpose in being here at this time? What is the truth about our gender and how it fits into the entire scheme of things? What is the truth about our health? Our finances? Our relationships? Our genetic programming? Once we begin to question, to ask about the true reality of things, we must be willing to see life very differently from before. Like the Hanged One in the tarot we may suddenly find our entire world has gone topsy-turvy. We may discover ourselves viewing life upside down, the exact opposite of how the world at large does. Although this can certainly be upsetting at first, it can also be tremendously comforting since the truth always does comfort, eventually. Learning to live life with our internal searchlights turned on, penetrating

everything we see and experience is actually exhilarating. It gives one a renewed life because we search deeply below the surface and watch the truth reveal itself. If we wish to call ourselves spiritual seekers, then it is imperative that we make every attempt to view and live life from a spiritual perspective. Do you think it is enough for us to have one foot in the world of spirit and the rest of our bodies in the world as if we were unawakened? We either want to move along

with Spirit or we don’t. If we don’t, that’s fine; then we can place our focus elsewhere. But, if we do, concentrating on seeing the reality “behind” physical existence can only bring us great joy and peace.

playing. We come from that attitude and belief. Sure, there are days we get discour-aged and sometimes we stumble. But we recover very quickly. We’re not perfect but it is what we choose each day: to live in a spirit of cooperation. We support other shows. Why wouldn’t we? Krysta: What are your favorite spiritual practices? Brenda: One of my practices that has come more to the foreground is to live in a heart-centered way. When I meditate, a good deal of my time is opening and expand-ing my heart chakra and deepening in that place. This makes me more vulnerable but strength, compassion, and wisdom are there as well. Being authentically yourself is a big step and is one of my main practices. Rob: I explore a lot of possibilities of healing. While going through cancer, I dis-covered I am a natural healer. I have the ability to move energy. I discovered if I can’t do it in myself, I can’t do it with others. I am constantly expanding and looking at the modalities. Krysta: You are both cancer survivors. What do you think is most important for people to stay healthy or to return to good health? Brenda: They need to go inward and connect with that part of themselves that knows, During my third bout with cancer,

Visualize daily about what your prosperity looks like. Visualize what it is and what you are doing with it. Visualize opening your own business, shopping at high-end department stores, or traveling. Whatever you desire, you can visualize. When we visualize, we are opening our subconscious mind to all that we desire. Here’s a prosperity visualization/creation: As you go about your daily business, feel your body emanating and surrounded by prosperity vibrations. Visualize positivity coming forth from you and filling the psychic atmosphere around you. When you speak to others, speak with the confidence and self-assurance of a person who has already achieved prosperity. Visualize that the people you come into contact with will feel these prosperity vibrations and act and react to you in ways that help you to achieve further prosperity. Self-programming, self-hypnosis, and subliminal messages are other techniques I use. Some of my favorite CDs are, The Secret to Attracting Wealth, by Kelly Powell, and Anthony Robbins’ Personal Power and Get the Edge series.

Attracting Prosperity One last question, is prosperity just about money? No, not really. Prosperity is about realizing our true and complete

potential. Prosperity is not so much what you hold in your hand, but more, the treasures you hold in your heart.

I learned I had to be willing to shift my consciousness. The doctors wanted me to take a particular type of chemo without which they said I might live a year. But my inner voice rose above the chat-ter and it said not to do this treatment and I followed the inner voice. I shifted from fighting cancer to focusing on reclaiming my health. That was my shift in percep-tion. I perceived the disease as something I could learn from and I wanted to reclaim my health. All my intention went in this new direction and this shift opened up a new place to heal. Rob: Wellness is a holistic approach and we have to look at everything: mind, spirit, and emotion. When it comes down to it, the most important is the spiritual and that is the base. Everything follows from there and our energetic way sup-ports that. As above, so below. Things exist in the field and what is the field? Consciousness. Where and how you plug in makes the total difference. Brenda: In the healing work we do we help people move into emotions such as fear, anger, rage, and hopelessness to uncover those emotions, clear them and embrace them rather than resist which is what keeps them alive and well. Once we clear the emotions, then their perception can change. Rob: We help them to take the symp-toms and understand that they are a com-munication. This is the beginning point rather than the end.

In addition to their radio show, Rob and Brenda have an interactive online community. On the last Tuesday of the month they give webinars and go deeper into these concepts. Go to www.conscioustalk.net for show times and to sign up for the community. Listen to this entire interview in the audio section at www.newspiritjournal.com.

Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there, buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day. – Deepak Chopra

Throughout the ages, meditation techniques have been developed and taught by self-realized masters. Over and over again, students of spiritual studies have been told that meditation is the key to enlightenment. Yet, especially in the west, meditation is not valued or supported by mainstream culture. There are, unfortunately, few advanced teachers who may guide the many toward successful meditation. Many people try using a book, tape, or CD to learn to meditate without knowing what meditation techniques are available to choose from, or what types of meditation are appropriate for them specifically. They

obsessing, you may like to focus upon a mantra, word, a favorite saying, or any sentence of your liking. Repeat it over and over to keep the mind preoccupied. Try to notice the silence between words. Many people enjoy chanting. There are many beautiful free chants on You Tube. 7. Focus visually on an object, a photograph of a spiritual master, or a candle flame. Focus on your chosen object and whenever a thought comes into your mind, let it go. Stay with the visual object, and keep letting go of the thoughts that come. Some people like to visualize an object within their minds. Either way, the intensity of the visual focus serves to quiet the mind, to keep thoughts from coming. Practice tenderness, dispassion and compassion. Be kind to everyone, for they are all fighting their own battles. Pain and suffering fuels our drive for inner peace. Let go of who you think you are. Know you are a soul.

Jyoti Josahentara, M.A. is a soul-centered astrologer, mind-body-energy healer, master dream worker, meditation instructor, and singing coach. She is writing a book and preparing some online courses. Everyone Can Meditatequit early on when it isn’t working for them. There are stages in the meditation process. Reflection, concentration, visualization, imagination, and meditation are all processes that lead to the quiet mind of soul consciousness and maintained contemplation. We also use sound (mantrams and chants) and breathing exercises (pranayama), which help focus the mind and energize the subtle bodies and power centers (chakras). Our physical, emotional and mental worlds (which make up the personality) are all entwined within the energy system. When we meditate we are working with all three, becoming aware of them, integrating them, and then bringing them under soul influence. After working with your mental and emotional natures in these various ways, there is a natural quieting of the mind as the soul energy becomes the predominating quality. It’s important to start with a meditation that is appropriate for you. Most of us need to begin with reflection and concentration exercises. Meditation, when appropriate, is doable and effective and in the end, you will have cultivated the observer in you.

If you’ve found meditation difficult in the past, please do not give up. Becoming still is difficult for everyone. Good results come in time with persistent right practice. The important thing to remember is that when you sit alone with yourself, even if your mind is busy, you are signaling your soul that you want to develop the relationship. Cultivating a relationship with your soul takes time and effort, like any good love relationship. Your soul is waiting for your attention. It is the real you. When you honor your inner being by cultivating a relationship with it, you will slowly but surely enjoy inner guidance, find greater inner peace and become your deepest potential. It is the work of a lifetime, and the greater purpose of every human being. Here are a few well-known beginning meditation techniques to focus and calm the mind. 1. Don’t try to stop your thoughts. Just observe them. Watch them come and go. When you realize you’ve lost your observer awareness, detach from the thoughts and quietly come back to observing. Try to focus

on the space between the thoughts. 2. Be aware of your breathing as long as you can. Anyone can focus upon and be aware of their breath for a short while. Start with a minute or two and work up to greater time periods. You’ll be surprised how your mind will relax and you’ll have longer and longer moments when you can be aware of your breathing without thoughts. You can combine watching your thoughts and your breath. 3. Try keeping your mind focused on one topic. This is a great way to strengthen concentration. Start with five minutes and let your mind wander as it will, but only on your chosen topic.

If your mind goes off topic, bring it back to the topic when you become aware. 4. Focusing on and increasing body awareness can be a useful meditation. Many people are so in their minds or emotions that they aren’t in their bodies. They may be aware only of their heads or hands, but have no awareness of legs or feet, for instance. If you cannot sit and become aware of and sense your entire body, I recommend this meditation. You can combine exploring your body as you breathe. Watch your breath and breathe into every body part. Put your awareness in every body part. Do this until you become aware of your whole body all at once, all the time. If you have a body pain, breathe into it. Explore it. Be there with it. Let it talk to you. 5. Reflection is also a prelude to meditation. How well do you know what you think and feel? As you sit and observe, ask: what thoughts tend to generate emotion? What emotions generate certain thoughts? How are the thoughts and emotions felt in the body? Where are they felt in the body? What thoughts and feelings are most prevalent? What bothers you the most? What beliefs are implied by your thoughts and feelings? What motivates your thoughts and feelings? Why do you have these thoughts and not other kinds of thoughts? 6. If your mind is

Jyoti Josahentara says that when you honor your inner being by cultivating a relationship with it, you will slowly but surely enjoy inner guidance, find greater inner peace and become your deepest potential.

Talking to Animals–From Telepathy to Synchronicityto develop your own totem zoology in which you attribute interpretations to each creature. You can read interpretations of Jamie Sams and the late Ted Andrews (Animal Speak, Animal Wise), or you can develop your own interpretations based on your repeated experiences.

Interpreting Animal Omens

in Everyday Situations

On the mundane level, many of us live in metropolitan areas where we encounter few wild animals, with the exception of raccoons, crows, pigeons, gulls, and coyotes in rare circumstances. If you live in a city, you can work with backyard birds or pets, if you choose to interpret from live creatures. Otherwise, you can keep your eye out for messages in the form of news headlines involving animals, passages in books, photographs, animals that appear on clothing, online advertisement and websites, on business cards, jewelry, or someone bringing up a particular animal in a conversation. You might dismiss this animal the first time you see it or hear about her, but if the same creature comes up at least three times in the course of a day, then pay attention. If you don’t feel comfortable interpreting the animal spirit message on your own, check out the books and cards I mentioned earlier. You can also ask a totem animal consultant, shaman, or an indigenous person who works with totems for assistance.

If We Could Talk To Animals I remember falling in love with Dr. Doolittle during my childhood. I sat in my bedroom surrounded by my plush animals, horse statues, and animal picture books, desperately wanting to communicate with animals. When I turned 10, I chose animal doctor as my adult profession, but changed my mind when I saw bottles filled with

tapeworms that came from dogs. However, even at that young age, I remember communicating telepathically with my dog Blackie,

even though I thought it was just my imagination at that time. He and I sent

images back and forth. In addition, I learned to read his body language so I could guage his emotions. Adults used to ask me why

their dogs were upset and I knew the answer.

We communicate with animals through our body language, our tone

of voice, and through telepathy because animals pick up on

the images in our minds. If you have an image of a doggy bakery in your mind’s eye, Snoopy has picked up on that image causing him to wag his tail and tremble in anticipation of visiting his favorite eatery. And if you

think about taking the dog to the vet, Snoopy picks up on your dread, and the images in

your mind. Since he knows he’s not going to the beach or somewhere he

prefers, he refuses to climb into the car. Like any other metaphysical skill, communicating with animals takes practice as you build your awareness and grow more conscious of both animal spirits and actual animals. Start on the spiritual realm through guided meditation and shamanic journeys where you encounter your spirit animal guides. Ask the guides to teach you how to communicate with the animals in your surroundings. Then work out a system where you give meaning to numbers, colors, and cardinal directions in relation to animals you encounter. Design your own deck of animal cards, using photographs from magazines or online sites that you paste on old playing cards. Or you can keep a journal tracking the events that occur with different animal encounters. Follow these tips and soon you’ll be talking to animals Dr. Doolittle-style. Although I doubt you’ll find a two-headed giraffe in your kitchen.

Regardless of your personal totem, animals constantly communicate to us. We might read a headline in the news such as the cow that escaped a slaughter house and swam across a frigid river to safety.

Or we might have read a news article about a piglet raised by a tiger. When we read these stories we need to search for the deeper meaning and how that deeper meaning relates to our lives. In the case of the piglet and the tiger, start with your own symbolism for these animals to discern their message.

Synchronicity & Omens If you experience multiple encounters with butterflies, including magazine photographs, sightings in your garden, on T-shirts, and on television, then meditate

on metamorphoses. Jamie Sams (Medicine Cards) discusses the four stages of the butterfly, which include, egg, larva, cocoon, and butterfly. Which stage are you at? Over the years people have asked me, “What does it mean when a hawk flies across my windshield when I’m driving?” “I saw a dead crow, what does that mean?” Interpreting animal omens and synchronicity is similar to finding the meaning with tarot cards. While you don’t need to memorize animal traits, behaviors, and meanings, you do need

Nutrition for Body & Soulby Deanna Minich, PhD, CN, RYT

“You are what you eat.” You may have heard this statement and acknowledged its inherent truth. However, the reality is that we become what we eat only if we are able to digest, absorb, and assimilate food compounds into our body. You could eat the most pure, organically-grown healthy food, but if you can’t break down the food and assimilate the nutrients into your being, it remains just a lot of expensive food. Chances are that your digestion is not 100%. After all, some of the biggest-selling drugs are for gut health, like proton-pump inhibitors and antacids. It has been estimated that 70% of Americans have a gastrointestinal symptom or condition. I have always had an affinity for the digestive system, essentially a long tube that runs from mouth to anus, with the small intestine being about 23 feet in length and the large intestine about five feet long. If we were to stretch out the absorptive surface, we might get a surface area comparable to the size of a tennis court. Its primary functions are to digest and absorb nutrients, and to provide a barrier between the outside and inside worlds. But that’s not all. The gut has other claims to fame in the scientific community including being nicknamed the “second brain” because of its crucial role in behavior. In addition, it houses 60-70% of our immune system, and is responsible for sending signals throughout the body that can impact satiety, blood sugar, and even bone health.

1. Removing invaders. Our stomach and intestines are full of bacteria, and we want them to have more healthy bacteria than unhealthy ones. Otherwise, it’s a war between the two factions. When we eat unhealthy food, there could be the release of bacteria toxins which could make us feel ill (known as “metabolic endotoxemia”). Therefore, removing the bad guys is a good idea. We can help in the battle to eliminate fungus, bacteria, and viruses with the help of foods like fresh garlic,

Go With Your Gut

Four Steps to Building a Better, Blissed-out Belly

Here’s a staggering fact: it has been said that we have more bacteria in our gut than we have cells in our entire body. And many of those bacteria are thought to be responsible for aspects of our health, and even associated with body composition (e.g., different microflora classes seem to reside in lean and obese individuals). Because the gut is so pivotal to the core functioning of our day-to-day living, including how well we take in nutrients, my rule of thumb in clinical practice is to always start with examining someone’s gut function: • How does their belly feel after eating? • Do they get bloated, are they belching, and how often are they excreting waste? • Is there pain or inflammation? • Do they feel stress in their gut? Here are four easy steps you can work with a practitioner on to ensure that your gut is in top working order:

Deanna Minich offers four steps that can help us keep our gut healthy

and happy so we get the most out of our food. Following these four

steps can put us on the way to truly becoming what we eat!

PART FOUR

Picking up where I left off last month, I was telling you that in most cases, I am not a fan of hospice for our animal friends. Since (unlike with humans) we have a choice of helping our beloved animals leave their bodies through humane euthanasia, I am very much in favor of that. The reason I am not usually comfortable with hospice for animals is because in my experience it is usually being done more for the human’s benefit than the animal’s. Sometimes it is done because the human cannot bear to be without the particular animal and consequently, they hold on as long as possible while their animal waits and suffers. Sometimes it is because there is a hang up with the “Thou shalt not kill” business, as I wrote about experiencing earlier in this series, or because

there is a misguided desire for the process to be “natural.” It can also be because we “think” it is the right thing to do or that it is our duty to try to move heaven and earth to save the animal’s life. Other times it is done because of the extra attention and sympathy the human receives. Living life as a martyr can be easier for some. In most cases, I am a huge fan of support groups. I even benefited from one when I was caring for my elderly father with dementia. But the exception, for me, is the groups that now exist to support those hospicing their animals.

The term “hospice” implies that the animal is dying. If that is the case and the animal is in pain or discomfort and lacks any quality to their life, it is time to let them go. In my opinion, if you need a support group to help you cope with hospicing your animal friend, something is wrong. If the support group is preparing and helping you to let go, that could be a good thing. Over the years I have encountered many situations where I have had to help people understand that is was time to help their animal friend pass.

Fortunately, because of the work I do with animals, I have been asked for help in these cases. None have been more obvious in lesson than the most recent. At an event, an animal rescuer approached me. She explained that she had rescued a rabbit that was close to 10 years old, which by the way, is about the normal life span of a domestic rabbit. She said she had grown to love this bunny very much and just couldn’t decide if it was time to euthanize him or not, so she was continuing to hospice him. She insisted she wanted to do the right thing. We had a lengthy but general conversation about this subject, when is it time? I told her about a simple formula that a guest on my radio show shared with me years ago. I do not remember her name so I cannot give her credit for it. In any case, the formula is: food, fun, and follow. You ask yourself these questions. Does your animal still enjoy and eat his food? Do they still have a desire and the ability to follow you around? This applies more to dogs but can also apply to some other kinds of animals, depending. Is fun and happiness

still consistently apart of the animal’s life? These questions are a very good start. Then, ask these questions: Can the animal still control his bladder and bowels? Our domestic animals do not want to be a burden, cost you money you cannot afford to spend, and they find not being able to control themselves and making messes embarrassing. That is part of helping them go while their dignity is still intact. I would also have you ask yourself or your animal friend if he or she is in constant pain or discomfort. If you are considering unpleasant and/or invasive medical diagnostic procedures or surgeries, is it really worth putting your animal friend through it? How long will it give them? Will they be able to recover? What quality will they have left? This is when a good animal communicator can be helpful if you are not able to clearly talk with your own animal. I strongly encourage you to do what I do. Make these decisions with your animal friends, not for them. After having this talk with the rabbit rescuer, she was still undecided. She walked away for a while. When she returned, still wanting my opinion, it occurred to me to ask her what the present condition of the rabbit was. I was

not prepared for her answer. She said the rabbit was blind and deaf and paralyzed in the rear. It could not move around on its own. She was force-feeding and giving fluids. Are you kidding me? My heart broke in a million pieces right there in front of her. I told her as gently as possible that there was no question in my mind or heart that is was long past time to help this creature pass and that I would do it

immediately. Tears welled up in her eyes and it became very clear to me that she was the one who could not let go. I do not know what she decided to do. Once you know it is time, the questions that remain are: how to prepare yourself and your animal friend, where to do it, how to do it, should you be there or not, and what if you just cannot be there? Then you must decide how to deal with the body. And finally, how to move through the grief, and should you get another animal? I will conclude

this series with all of the answers next month.

scallions, coconut oil, and even spices such as allspice, thyme, tarragon, cumin, cinnamon, turmeric, and oregano. We can also assist in the removal of invaders by promoting greater populations of healthy bacteria rather than unhealthy bacteria by eating more fermented foods (e.g., miso, natto, fermented vegetables, unsweetened yogurt and/or kefir; there are non-dairy options available). 2. Replacing digestive secretions. From the age of 35 onwards, our digestive secretions become less robust, and as a result, we are not breaking down food to the degree we need to for health. We might get bloated soon after eating if we lack these vital substances. There are a variety of things we can do to get back on track: • Soaking nuts to help make them more digestible. • Eating lightly steamed vegetables instead of raw foods (especially in the winter). • Refraining from eating when stressed. • Chew your food so that your stomach needs to work less hard. • Eating bitter foods and liquids to help stimulate gastric secretions, such as apple cider vinegar, lemon

juice, dandelion greens, ginger root, and fennel seeds. 3. Releasing waste. I can’t tell you how many people are embarrassed to talk about one of the most essential aspects of healthy digestion: their bowel movement (BM). As a nutritionist, it is one of the first questions I ask in a consultation because it helps me to assess how the digestive tract is functioning. It is common that people will report having a BM every other day, which is too infrequent. For most people, the best scenario is having one-two normal in color, well-formed, semi-soft BMs daily. If you are constipated, this is not healthy as you are probably recirculating toxins in your system. Healthy BMs can be encouraged by getting enough water and getting adequate fiber from plant sources like legumes, fruits, flaxseed, and vegetables. Physical activity and massaging the gut area may also help with constipation. 4. Relaxing. Our gut can take on the stress of emotions – after all, look at the naming of some gastrointestinal conditions – “irritable bowel syndrome” and “inflammatory bowel disease.” What are we irritable and/or inflamed about? How can we let those

emotions better flow rather than storing them within? First and foremost, it is important that we are expressing our emotions in healthy ways. If you don’t have time, try making an “emotional date” with yourself to process what you felt through journaling or talking with a friend. From a nutritional perspective, think about eating foods that help your body to “flow” better, for example, omega-3 fats found in fish, flaxseed, nuts, and green, leafy vegetables. These fluid oils embed into our cell membranes to help reduce inflammation and to keep our cells flowing and fluid. Studies have shown that omega-3 fats may play a role in behavior, and can help in reducing aggression and depression. Keeping your gut healthy and happy is important to helping you get the most out of your food. Following these four steps can put you on your way to truly becoming what you eat.

Deanna Minich, PhD, CN, RYT, is a mind-body-spirit nutritionist and author who bridges together modern science with ancient spirituality in her novel approach to food and eating. See her website, www.foodandspirit.com, and Facebook page, Food & Spirit with Dr. Deanna Minich, for more details.

People do all kinds of things to cleanse their bodies. They wrap, sweat, and steam; go on green, raw, or all-juice diets; and take supplements to remove toxins. They even flush from both ends. All of these things provide a nice physical cleanse. But have folks seeking optimal health known the simple pleasure of a full-benefit multi-level physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual cleanse sitting by the sea? The ocean is our teacher and our healer. If you watch the ebb and flow of the ocean closely, you can’t help but enter a state conducive to connecting deeply with animals and nature, and also a state of being conducive to healing. All you have to do is stop thinking about other stuff, and put your full curious attention on exploring the depths of the sea. The repetition of the waves will help you relax and enter a deeper state of being. While watching, feel inside your body at the same time. You may begin to notice more than a pretty picture in front of you. You may begin to notice a bit of movement inside that corresponds to the flow of the ocean. It may seem that you have stepped into the picture instead of just watching it. Pay particular attention to the point where the water switches from coming in to going out. That still pause is the perfect point of relaxed readiness. It is the state of being conducive to

maximum athletic function. It is the state of alert presence from which input and output arises. It is energetic stillness. It is the state of being where you are at optimal readiness for giving or receiving. Study this exchange point where ebb switches to flow. How it feels in you. There is no push or pull or strain. Only ease and effortlessness. You are not trying to do anything. You are not expending energy trying to push anything outwards, imposing your will. You are not trying to receive. You just are. Ironically, this state is the best place to receive and to act. This is the state of being where action can spring from you as a natural extension of your surroundings. Where

action is in harmony with the creature you are interacting with. Whether it is taking a walk, petting, brushing, acupuncture, or massage. It is an exchange – an ebb and flow – a dance. This is the state of being where you are not separate, but in tune with your surroundings. It is the exchange point of relaxed readiness. It is flow. It is water. It is ease and effortlessness. It is allowing. It is being. It is bringing the human being to the doing. It is allowing action to flow into what you do as a natural extension of your being from your centre. It is letting go and letting God. It is surrender. It is rub-a-dub-dub... a cleanse that will leave you sparkling, like the ocean.

The Big Washing MachineBy Kristine Schmitt

Human civilization is often at its peak when it conquers nature, using its resources to extend and improve the lives of the overall population. But through-out history, many of these thriving cultures disrupted the balance of nature so much that they destroyed their own livelihoods. It happened to the Mayans (according to NASA), the Moai on Easter Island, and countless others. We’re seeing it happening on a worldwide scale now, as evidenced by widespread drought and ground-water depletion. Over 52% of fish stocks are fully exploited or worse, about 15% of the earth’s ice-free land surface is eroded to some extent, and one-half of the forests that covered the earth are now

gone. There are numerous ways in which humanity pollutes the earth, eventually coming back around and polluting our bodies as well. Do we blame others: your waste-ful neighbors, people of another generation, or greedy multinational corporations? As I have learned, we are both the victims and the

creators of the world. If you become aware of your actions and take respon-sibility, you can change certain things, or at the very least, your attitude towards them. This will have a ripple ef-fect and subse-quently change your reality, affecting others

around you. I see many people blaming others and claiming to be helpless victims of the system. If you think about it, many (if not all) of us have wasted resources in exchange for pleasure or con-venience. Some are worse than others. We gave money, directly or indirectly, to wasteful businesses, or didn’t make time to volunteer for a cause. Unfortunately, there are more than 300 million Americans, so those little things add up to a great deal of waste, or a lot of energy in the wrong places. Everyone’s ac-tions, no matter how big or small,

have brought us to where we are now. Whether we claim it or not, we all share the responsibility. I may be preaching to the choir, as you may have already made major chang-es to your lifestyle, but I’m sure there’s always room for improvement. If not, consider eco-friendliness to be another aspect of your life that will increase your connection to the earth and another way for you to fit in this changing paradigm. Next time you go shopping, consider the entire lifecycle of everything you buy: how it’s made, how far it’s trans-ported, what it uses, and what happens to it when it’s no longer useful to you. Here are more ideas to become more eco-friendly: • Replace your garden with plants native to your area (check out your lo-cal native plant society website), which will reduce water and fertilizer usage. • Make eco-friendly more fun: see if you can beat

your personal record for your shortest shower, make your own plant-based cos-metics, or watch insightful documentaries with loved ones. • Buy in bulk to reduce packaging waste. • Bring reusable contain-ers for leftovers when you go out to eat • Buy organic whenever possible. • Wipe food off dishes with a sponge instead of using water pressure. These little changes will add up and become great leaps, and you will become the change you want to see in the world.

I had always been someone who understood the need to look after yourself, mentally, physically, and spiritually. I did this by going to the gym, speaking to like-minded people and eating healthily. When I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder my whole life turned upside down. I had not heard of the illness before and was very frightened by the diagnosis. I had to learn to manage the illness by the use of medication and self-help techniques. Bipolar disorder is a mood swing illness that often leads you into psychiatric wards, where you have to be cared for by others in order to stabilize

yourself. The key drug for many people for this disorder is lithium. I have been into a psychiatric ward three times in my life, all for a period of six weeks each time. Every time I came back home I would feel more awake and ready to face the world with all its challenges. I have stayed well for the past 12 months by the use of a self-help program that I devised myself. Each morning I will go for a half hour walk, followed by a swim two times a week. This keeps me physically fit. I really enjoy this time in the morning, time to be on my own, with my own thoughts, making plans about how I will spend the rest of the day. I also speak at functions on how to manage bipolar effectively, which is very cathartic for me, and gives me great pleasure to share my story with so many health professionals. The key question I want to answer for you is how I stay healthy with a life sentence diagnosis of bipolar disorder. One of the ways that helps me is using visualisation to keep a positive mind. Each day I look in the mirror and I say the following:

• I am able to achieve all that I want to.• I am interesting and intelligent.• All I work for will be achieved.• I am an excellent mother.• I am a creator and believe in my ideas.• I am caring and loving and sexy.• I am worthy of great things.

I say this visualization every morning to the bathroom mirror and I feel empowered. Another way for me to stay well is to use art therapy as a method to help balance the mind. I paint in oils and experiment in the use of color. When I first picked up a paint brush I was not very good and did not like the results. I persevered and I gradually got more confident and more able. This was fantastic, as after a period of time I had the

confidence to build a website and sell some of my paintings at exhibitions. Another way I keep myself well is to keep notes of interesting things that happen to me as I go along in life. All-in-all, it is important to keep a balanced lifestyle and I have found by the use of repetition in all that I do most useful.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is becoming a big hit in the spiritual community. Those familiar names on the leading edge, like Bruce Lipton and Jack Canfield, are promoting EFT right and left. When we look at the new science of Epigenetics, it is showing us that our perception of our reality is really shaping our reality, and thus, our lives. In other words, our belief systems shape our reality because this is the filter of our perception. Genes are just a blueprint. They aren’t in control of our fates. What a relief. Intelligent and respected people are taking a look at the science and coming to empowering conclusions.

• Increase your intuitive abilities.

How can using EFT increase your intuition and being

intuitive increase your effectiveness with EFT?

I believe using intuition with EFT is vital as a practitioner. Not only can treatments be streamlined to quickly get results and touch upon vital components that are often missed, but your clientle can be taught to expand intuition as well with this tool. Intuition is really just listening to all the incoming sensory signals (energy reading) in every moment. If you are going through the tapping sequence and suddenly the focus of your mind shifts, even just slightly, it is time to focus on where it shifted. Perhaps a picture appeared in your mind’s eye, or a phrase entered into your head. These are usually accompanied by an emotion or knowing. Don’t be fooled, this is all your intuitive guidance speaking to you. You may even feel a place in your body “light up.” So tap on it. It’s okay if it isn’t in the sequence. Try it out and see what the results are.

Why using EFT can expand your intuitive abilities

• Increased awareness of yourself is tied to expansion of intuitive abilities (this relates to the sixth chakra and the sixth layer of the auric field). • EFT expands your awareness of what makes you tick. • You can tap through emotional blocks and false belief systems. regarding your ability to enhance your intuitive abilities. • Just in using EFT everyday you are paying closer attention to your body’s signals and consequently begin to feel the energetic shifts and blockages.

Intuition + EFT = A Winning CombinationWhat does this have to do with EFT?

EFT is a fantastic tool for changing belief systems. EFT addresses the energetic system of the body via tapping on acupuncture points and meridians, as people consciously move into emotions and issues to heal rapidly. This allows us to address false belief systems and instill new ones. In doing this, people are achieving remarkable results in healing not only short-term issues, but long-standing ones as well. I repeat, people are reporting rapid healing. There are thousands of documented cases, helping people to heal from issues such as phobias, physical ailments, and post-traumatic stress disorder to a myriad of other issues such as weight loss and addictions. What’s more, you can go online and watch countless videos guiding you through the technique. Several foresee EFT becoming something so well-known that it will be commonplace to be taught in schools to our children.

Top reasons to use EFT every day• Clear out your energy system from energies causing discomfort.• Expand your awareness of yourself.• Develop your ability to use a tool in which you can see immediate results.• Empower yourself to provide yourself relief from physical, mental and emotional discomfort daily.

Nicole Wane says that by using the Emo-tional Freedom Technique (EFT), people are achieving remarkable results in healing both short-term and long-term issues.

that move through your mind each day. The trick is tapping into the subtleties and becoming more of an observer then reactor. So, as you are using EFT, focus in to what I call a “state of listening.” Suddenly, you may realize that you need to focus on your job or a specific person. But people’s tendency when these brief flashes of insight make their appearance is to stay focused in the direction you are already focused upon. Intuition is like riding a wave. You must wait for it and react appropriately. You must be flexible with your will. Issues are often emotionally multi-faceted, so it is important to pay attention to the signs along the way.

Deepen your trust in yourself and in Spirit The most profound development in developing your intuition is a deepening of trust in yourself and Spirit. EFT engages the energy system of the body. To be able to sense energy, through clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and

claircognizance, you open yourself to the ability of being lovingly guided on how to help yourself or your clients. Intuition is something that can be taught because intuition is like a muscle. The more you exercise it, the more you know it and trust it. But first you must be able to recognize it. Intuitive messages are coming into your experience all day long. Many of these messages, perhaps, you are brushing aside. For example, if you are dominant in clairvoyance,

you are thinking in pictures all the time. By coming into a space of watching your mind, and therefore, watching the pictures, you are able to tune into what the messages are. As you begin to watch these pictures you may realize there is a feeling or knowingness with the picture, like, “that’s not going to work,” or “brilliant idea.” On the contrary, people think clairvoyance is going to show up like neon lights. The truth is that it is as natural as all the thoughts

NewSpirit JOURNAL

By Darlene Harris and Karah Pino

The violet flame is a multidimensional and transmutational light frequency accessible from the third dimension. It is a gift from Mother-Father Creator Source for healing and purification. Within this violet light is consciousness, the intelligent force of cosmic love, healing, and peace. When we open to receive this blessed gift, the creative potencies of compassion, letting go, forgiveness, and restoration can be experienced. With its use, the awakening of our individual and collective consciousness is enhanced, all that hinders is transmuted, and our power and capacity to live vibrantly unfolds. Is this scenario familiar? You arrive home after a challenging day and sit down to rest. Instinctively you sigh a deep breath and wonder if it will take you all evening to recover your energy, only to go to bed and get up tomorrow to do it all again. Try this instead: Visualize a pastel shade of beautiful, pure, violet light over your head...the violet light drifts softly, spiraling around your head, face, neck and shoulders... down your arms and hands... over your body, legs and feet... then radiates outward filling your luminous energy field. As you continue to breathe and visualize the violet energy, notice your muscles begin to relax. Feel your stress releasing and a sense of well being arising.

With each inhale, feel the sense of well being continue to flow and deepen.

How to Use the Violet Flame The use of this tool as a resource does not interfere with our free will. It activates only when we ask and goes into action as an intelligent force. You can apply the violet flame with intention, invocation, and visualization to any situation or condition in your life where you desire clearing. You could imagine the violet flame flowing through the silver cord from your I Am presence into your crown chakra and down your central core to your heart center. Sense and feel it as compassion, forgiveness, or letting go. Or command it into action from your highest self: I am the hand of God, charging the electrons around me with an infinite supply of peace infusing my life and flowing throughout the planet. In her 2007 book, The Violet Flame, Patricia Cota-Robles describes this light frequency as a gift from the heart of our mother-father creator source “to assist us in transmuting into light our human miscreations of thought and feeling. This includes anything in the physical plane that is not reflecting the love, harmony, and balance of heaven on earth.” If you feel resonance with the violet flame, you can try the following mantra from Patricia’s book, repeating three times:

“Transmute, transmute by Violet Fire all causes and cores not of God’s desire. I AM a being of cause alone, that cause is love, the sacred tone.”(See Patricia Cota-Robles web site: www.eraofpeace.org) A short invocation can be tailored to any situation using a phrasing such as: I invoke the violet flame of love, forgiveness, compassion, and transformation to blaze through me and transmute cause, core, record, memory, and affect anything that is not 100% pure light.

Using the Violet Flame for Service to Humanity and the Earth

It is natural to feel overwhelmed by the immensity of needs on our planet. The violet flame can be a powerful ally. Welcome this conscious light to transform your overwhelmings and bring ease and effortlessness into your service, whether for family, community, or the earth. Inspired spiritual teachers of our planet are calling us to release and transmute the stuck energies of duality and polarity, to shift into peace and oneness, which opens the flow of abundance for all. Patricia states that cosmic law requires that this divine force be invoked from the earthly realm where the assistance is needed. This sacred cosmic tool for moving us into the fourth and fifth dimensions and ascending in vibration with mother earth is readily available to us at any moment. Its essence is effortlessness, relief and joy. It is our choice and privilege to co-create with

source and experience heaven on earth.

This article was written by Darlene Harris, M.A and Karah Pino, MAcOM, two of the co-organizers of Violet Flame Seattle who gather regularly in the Seattle area. To join them in strengthening pathways of ascension on behalf of humanity through invocation, meditation and experiential discourse with the Violet Flame, please visit www.violetflameseattle.blogspot.com.

The body’s energy centers hold both negative and positive energy. How each one expresses itself – more positively or more negatively – changes from moment-to-moment, day-to-day, and week-to-week. It all depends on what’s going on in your life and how you’re handling it. In order to reach our maximum potential, we have to clear out any negative energy. It’s like managing weeds in a garden. An overlooked weed grows deep roots and competes with what you’ve planted. Sometimes you’re too busy to see the weed; you may even walk right past it without noticing it’s there. Other times you might actually notice the weed, but instead of pulling it right then, you put it off for another day. Next thing you know, the rains come and the weeds have multiplied. Making a conscious effort to see a negative trait in yourself, then working to clear it, is akin to seeking out the weed in your garden and pulling it. It clears the path for more goodness to grow in your life, especially knowing that the rains will always come.

Using the Negative to Affirm the Positive

Exploring negative feelings to their fullest serves as a launch pad to propel you deeper into the opposing positive quality. For example, feeling the pain of sadness helps you feel the sweetness of joy. Without darkness you cannot know light. A good way to overpower negativity is to be with the negative feelings, to feel them completely, and then to immediately plant a seed of the opposite – positive – energy in its place. Using affirmations is a simple and effective way to do this. To affirm something is to state it as if it is so, here and now. It is to declare something as if it is already true; to believe it is real. Below are the three most common negative traits (weeds) related to each chakra followed by an opposing positive (seed) in the form of an affirmation.

Chakra 1: Rigid, unstable, unsafe. Affirmation: “Knowing that life will hold me, protect me, and nurture me, I am safe and at peace.”

Chakra 2: Addictive, flighty, stuck. Affirmation: “I am a wise, free-flowing,

I am pure, I am free Grounded like a tree!

I am pure, I am freeTo express creatively!

I am pure, I am freeAccepting all of me!

I am pure, I am freeLove embraces me!

I am pure, I am freeSpeaking joyfully!

I am pure, I am freeWith clarity I see!

I am pure, I am freeAs I unite with Thee!

Yes, I am pure, I am free... I live authentically!

For the last statement, tilt your head back and lift your gaze as you reach toward the sky with open arms. Really

Chakra Talkby Ruth Stender

Affirmations For The Chakras concentrate on the meaning of the words and how they make you feel.

Why Use Affirmations? Using affirmations helps us achieve self-mastery, self-leadership, self-control, self-management, self-realization. They also give us liberation. They’re a way of taking responsibility for your personal development and progress in life. We can read books, take classes, and listen to lectures, but without taking action nothing will make a bit of difference. Affirming the positive is the action of fertilizing your inner garden. It promotes maximum growth from the inside out. You become like the wise farmer who, having planted a tiny little seed and then nurturing it to harvest, ensures further growth by sharing his bountiful crop with others. “The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Ruth Stender is a certified meditation and yoga teacher (RYT-200). She is completing her first book which teaches how to balance mind, body, and spirit using specific aspects of each chakra, breath work, intuition, and easy-to-use self-healing techniques. Ruth offers services at The Pujari Center, East West Bookshop, Swedish Medical Center, and Dreamclinic’s Green Lake location. www.seattleenergymedicine.com, (206) 708-3277.

creative, and whole being.”

Chakra 3: Judgmental, insecure, controlling. Affirmation: “Knowing that I am a perfect, powerful, expression of God, I celebrate others in their unique expression of God.”

Chakra 4: Resentful, jealous, rescuer. Affirmation: “I love and respect others unconditionally because I love myself without conditions.”

Chakra 5: Blaming, gossipy, pessimistic. Affirmation: “Because I know we’re all connected, I speak of others with a calming sense of love and grace.”

Chakra 6: Indecisive, egotistical, confused. Affirmation: “Seeing and hearing clearly, I humbly trust my intuition.”

Chakra 7: Feeling lost, apathetic, depressed. Affirmation: “Vital life force energy runs through my veins. I am Spirit, I am bliss!”

Tackling a negative thought with will and determination – like you mean it – then examining all sides of it helps in creating positive, meaningful and relevant affirmations.

Feeling Feeds the Words You can say words all day long, but if they lack meaning they are missing essential energy; they have no power. Think of the essence of any given word. What does love feel like? Or anger, sadness, joy, or peace? Pause to “feel” a word’s meaning, its expression. Feeling gives meaning to words just as water cultivates growth in a garden. Words fueled by feeling become like a well-tended garden soaking up a warm summer’s rain. The water releases vital nutrients from the soil to feed the plant just as feeling releases the essence, the nutrient, of a word. Feeling is what makes the affirmation come to life, to take root and grow.

Chakra-Clearing Chant The chakra-clearing chant is an affirming exercise to cleanse the entire chakra system in one fell swoop, or as a single affirmation or mantra. To begin, close your eyes and take a few deep cleansing breaths. Get centered. Be still. Invite energy to flow upward with each inhalation, down with the exhale as you say the words. Keep your gaze uplifted. Practice outside or near a window if you can.

Seven Thousand Ways to ListenStaying Close to What is SacredBy Mark NepoFree Press

Whenever I read one of Mark Nepo’s books, I feel like I’m in the presence of a deeply soulful person who experiences life on many different levels. In this newest book, he writes about the quality of listening, a skill that many people simply do not have. If we all actually listened to one another better, the world would be a happier and more sane place to live. Nepo talks about listening as it relates to the state of being, to being human, and to the work of love. He talks about relationships, pain, guilt, and all the other states we humans experience. He speaks and writes like a poet, but a poet one can understand. If you haven’t listened to my interview of Mark, go to www.newspiritjournal.com and visit the audio library. Once you meet him this way, I think you will want to read this book.

Creating on PurposeBy Anodea Judith and Lion GoodmanSounds True

What a deep and fun book this one is. Using the system of chakras, the authors lead us through the process of manifestation

to help clear beliefs that don’t serve us, become clear on our life purpose, and gain the skills we need to manifest what we want. Each chakra is explained in terms of how its energy is used in the overall process. There are meditations and exercises that help turn the instructions into viable action. Both authors have many years of experience in what they write about and they share many stories that help make the concepts come alive. This is a book you will want to work with over a period of time as you deepen your understanding of the processes taught.

and December are perfect months to embark on it. The book explains much that is missing from some popular Law of Attraction teachings, explains why they don’t always work and then provides what we need to become true co-creators in our lives. Each week we walk through the processes: prepare, look back, create space, and move forward. Within each of those, there is a daily reading and activity. At the end of the month, we have a soul day where we create our own mandala that leads and supports us forward in our lives. This book comes from a spiritual base and interweaves various traditions, and ultimately explains what is meant by the famous quote: “Seek ye first the Kingdom and all these other things will be added.” This is a wonderful book and could lead readers into a truly magical new year.

The Law of Divine CompensationOn Work, Money, and MiraclesBy Marianne WilliamsonHarperOne

In her trademark way of simple writing, Marianne tackles the big issue of money. She teaches from the viewpoint of the Course in Miracles and takes the reader through the sort of attitudes that attract prosperity and those that repel it. She addresses: love, negative sense of

self, anger, guilt, prejudice, surrender, fear, joy, and positivity. With each chapter, she gives a prayer that supports the teaching. With today’s world so enmeshed in financial worries and inequalities, there couldn’t be a better time for this book to be published. It approaches these issues from the spiritual perspective and gives workable solutions that anyone can apply to their life.

Are You Still Kissing Frogs? Leap Into Real Solutions to Attract Your Genuinely Committed Relationship.By Gianna Rosewood

The author calls herself a “Relationship Whisperer and Former Frog Kisser” who helps single women who are ready to stop kissing frogs and attract their ideal mate. She details her own relationship history and the book includes three chapters by her husband of 18 years who shares the male perspective. This book is full of practical information about how to discover the type of mate you are seeking and how you intend to go about it. Using checklists, Rosewood has the reader examine every aspect of their life, assessing how the new relationship might affect them and what they might want and not want from the new mate. Because it helps identify areas of concern in a relationship and what to do about them, even people who are currently in a relationship and are experiencing challenges could benefit from this book.
