FROM YOUR HOA PRESIDENT
2nd Quarter, 2017

These meetings are posted in the locked bulletin boards at the front entrance of the club house and at the en-trance to the club house from the pool. Notice of meetings are posted at least 48 hours before the meet-ing.
Currently the Board Of Di-rectors meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00P.M. This is subject to change. Please check the bulletin boards for correct times.
Board of Directors
President: Marvin Ott
VP: Tru Hall
Treas: Bob Coleman
Secy: Larry Cordisco
Member: Chris Evans
Member: John Albright
Member: Le Roy Hoff
The financial performance for the first quarter of 2017 shows a positive cash flow due to the increase in HOA dues. It will, however, even out some-what later in the year when the new cable service takes over for LiteStream. The board continues to control operating costs as much as possible as the fixed costs continue to increase each year for things like lawn care, tree trim-ming, street repair, drain cleaning and cable. At this time the future financial performance looks very good and as the year progresses and we get into the 2018 budget process we will be able to clarify the performance going forward.
The volunteer for the first quarter was John Burd. John is head of the election committee and the safety, security and enforcement committee. John spends many hours volunteering for these committees and does an excellent job. We thank him for his dedication and the time he spends. All of our volun-teers are the foundation that make self management work.
Please keep in mind that we as homeowners have an obligation to maintain our properties; including roofs, driveways and patios. We also are required to clean up after our dogs.
Thank you,
Marvin Ott -- HOA president

Hello Fellow Residents:
I know many of us were surprised when our neighborhood Walgreen’s decided to leave. I had come to rely on that place for many things besides prescriptions. No more quick stops near home. Now we would have to drive down to Prima Vista or Route 1.
Another surprise was when a new sign went up announcing Express Homes by D.R. Horton, Ameri-ca’s builder across from St. Andrew’s. We were even more horrified when the payloaders started deracinating most of the trees in the preserve. Rumor has it that the fenced in property on the other side of St. Andrew’s was also sold recently. What is happening to our little remote area!
We should have expected this but did not want to believe it would happen so soon. When people find out about a great place to live they start buying there. I just hoped it would not happen that fast. If I wanted to live in crowded Boca I would have moved there.
With the growth, we can expect more restaurants, shops, and hopefully a new phar-
macy to replace Walgreen’s. We can only cross our fingers and hope that the traffic will not become a problem and that our little nest of St. James will still be peaceful and calm.
Barbara Warren- Editor in chief.

Since the Chinese restaurants are substandard around here we have taken to Thai restaurants and where pleasantly surprised when we went to Ninja Thai Asian Fusion.
There were four of us and none of had been here before. We were seated immediately by our waitress “Noodle.” Chef Tony Chantana came out to greet us The menu had both sushi and Thai food but
when our orders came we were wowed!
We started by sharing a Dragon Roll and Crab Rangoon that was the best we have ever had. For those who don’t know a dragon roll is an inside-out sushi roll, where the nori is wrapped around shrimp tempura and cucumber with the sushi rice is on the outside. Then is topped with sliced avocado and eel to resemble the scales of a dragon. Crab Rangoon is a type of deep-fried dump-ling with mainly crab and cream cheese. Delish!
Next we had our own entrees of Pad Thai which is a stir-fired rice noodle with egg, beansprouts, scallion, ground peanuts and lime juice with either shrimp, squid, scallop or a combo. The squid was so tender.
The next person had Drunken Noodles which was a stir-fried rice noodle with garlic, egg, car-rot, green pepper, onion, broccoli, basil and choice of sea-food. I had a delicious Red Curry with Seafood and it was the best I ever had. I couldn't get enough of the coconut milk based sauce with pineapple, lychees, green pepper and basil. Yum!!!
My husband had a truly tasty and artfully presented Fried Red Snapper that was filleted and then had the fish skeleton fried set alongside it for presentation. Not only was it a show stopper, it was scrumptious.
With little room left we decided to share a dessert which was Green Tea Ice Cream that was home-made and very tasty. So if you want to try something new you won’t go wrong by going here.

...that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. In the United States it is a day to remember those who have died in service for their country. Many cities and towns claim to be the birthplace of Decoration Day, but Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966. Regardless of the origin, the one clear thing is that Me-morial Day was born out of the Civil War when citizens wanted to honor those who died in the war. General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic officially proclaimed on May 5,1868. “The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land,” he proclaimed. The date of Decoration Day, as he called it, was chosen because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle.” On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arling-ton National Cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of the 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there.
The first state to officially honor the holiday was New York in 1873. By 1890 only the Northern states recognized the holiday. The South refused to acknowledge the day, honoring their dead on separate days until after World War I when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died fighting in the Civil War to honoring Americans who died fighting in any war. It is now observed in almost every state on the last Monday in May with Congressional passage of the National Holiday Act of 1971.
Another “did you know” was the origin of the red poppy sold by veterans. In 1915, inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields,” Moina Michael replied with her own poem:
We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led, It seems to signal to the skies That blood of heroes never dies.
She then conceived of an idea to wear red poppies on Memorial Day in honor of those who died serving the nation during war. She sold poppies to her friends and co-workers with the money going to benefit service-men in need. Later a Madam Guerin from France was visiting the United States and learned of this new cus-tom started by Ms. Michael. When she returned to France she made artificial red poppies to raise money for war orphaned children and widowed women. This tradition spread to other countries. In 1921, the Franco-American Children’s League sold poppies nationally to benefit war orphans of France and Belgium. The League disbanded a year later and Madam Guerin approached the VFW for help. Shortly before Memorial Day in 1922 the VFW became the first veterans’ organization to nationally sell poppies. Two years later their “Buddy” Poppy program was selling artificial poppies made by disabled veterans
The “National Moment of Remembrance” resolution was passed on Dec 2000 which asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans “To voluntarily
and informally observe in their own way a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence or listening to Taps.
Let us thank all those men and women who served our country, especially
those who gave their lives for our freedom. Thank You!!!

The maintenance committee meets the second Thursday of every month at 6pm in the club-
house. The committee addresses the ongoing preventive maintenance and all of the projects that
are proposed for the development now and in the future.
During the first quarter of 2017 projects that were completed were boulevard tree replace-
ment and a new video camera system at the front entrance, clubhouse, pool, and fitness center.
Items that are planned and approved by the board and that are coming are extending front
entrance center island, rework center islands on Dover, Sheffield and Stratford, new signs pool,
fitness center and the bb/tennis courts and repaint all of the pedestrian crosswalks, an additional
camera for the basketball and tennis courts, a new soccer goal, and extending the runoff channels
in the lake on the Dover circle and removing the bags of concrete scattered randomly in the lake.
Please keep in mind that the maintenance of sprinkler heads and piping to the valve boxes
on all properties are the responsibility of the homeowner. Maintenance will turn on the system so
you can identify where they are if requested by a work order a maximum of two times per year.

Kudos this quarter goes to the St. Lucie North Community Patrol which help makes our community a safe place
to live. The Patrol was instituted in our city to assist the PSL Police Department in patrolling communities
within the city. Patrols are comprised of community residents who are able and willing to make a commitment of
time to patrol the communities in which they live. So, St. James’ patrol is the St. Lucie North Community Patrol.
There are 7 Patrols in St. Lucie. No one knows our community better than those who live here, so the Patrol taps
into that knowledge to make our neighborhood safer.
The St. Lucie North Community Patrol is run by the PSLPD but has volunteer Vinny D’Amico as the Captain.
The other volunteers are: John Burd, Steve Butler, Bill Ferebee, Tru Hall, Ric Martino, Sharon Norris, and Nor-
ma Santini.
These St. James residents have completed a comprehensive 24-hour training course and had a fingerprint back-
ground check. They patrol our neighborhood in a vehicle provided by St. Lucie. They work 1 or 2 nights a week
for 2 hours. Their mission is to observe and report crimes and suspicious activity, thus being the eyes and ears of
the Police Department.
It is difficult to measure how much crime is prevented by the hours of community patrol; however, the mere pres-
ence of these dedicated volunteers makes St. James a safer place to live. Thank you for your time!!!!

2017 is off to a busy start for the Architectural Control Committee. Thru April 19, 2017 the committee has processed a total of 67 requests that were submitted by homeowners: 24 requests related with landscaping changes and improvements, 25 change requests for external structural changes (shutters, fences, doors, awnings, windows, lamps, screen enclosures, patios, gutters, driveways, solar panels, French drains, soffits, pools, driveways, etc.), and 7 change requests for exterior painting. At the April BOD meeting the Board approved changes to the Architectural Standards Criteria and Design Re-quirement document. These changes corrected some contradictions when compared to our HOA covenant’s docu-ment, as well as clarification of exterior painting requirements. This revised document will be available on the St James Golf Club HOA website. As always, HOA Architectural Change Request forms are to be completed and signed and should be taken to the HOA office for placement with the Architectural Control Committee which meets every Thursday. The committee reviews the homeowner request to assure compliance with Architectural Rules and Regula-tions which can be found on the HOA website or the HOA office. A form is required for any exterior changes or im-provements to homeowner property. PLEASE READ ALL CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL before submission. The com-plete Rules and Regulations are available on the internet at www.stjamesgolfclubhoa.com or contact the HOA office to purchase a written copy. Items that we generally find missing from an Architectural Change Request are the name of the contractor performing the work, along with a copy of their license and insurance, as well as any associated drawings for the pro-posed changes. While we strive to approve all requests the week that they are submitted, missing information may delay the approval of your request. The Architectural Committee is committed to volunteer service for the St. James Golf Club homeowners and the HOA in maintaining the appearance of our community. Respectfully submitted, Jack Albright Jorge Rojas Ric Martino
