If you’ve ever said, “Oh, my aching back,” after a day of lifting, raking or working, you’re not alone. Common back pain causes include: » Improper lifting » A sudden, strenuous physical effort; an accident, sports injury or fall » Excess weight, especially around the middle » Sitting in one position for a long time Healing will occur most quickly if you can continue your usual activities in a gentle manner while avoiding what may have caused the pain in the first place. Enthusiastic dragon boat paddlers changed the face of Riverfest on Saturday, July 6, as breast cancer survivors (see photo below right) and corporate teams raced up the mighty Mississippi to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. The inaugural event was sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare. “This was an exhilarating and moving day,” said Tim Johnson, M.D., CEO, and one of the “Crews in Blue” paddlers. “We saw great examples of teamwork and friendly rivalry, and yet were touched with the reminders of all the lives that have been affected by breast cancer.” A breast cancer survivor recognition ceremony was held, where survivors walked under the “paddle salute” held aloft by the paddlers (see photo to left below). Everywhere you turn these days someone is talking about health care – including the Affordable Care Act. As the changes of this piece of legislation unfold, you may have some concerns. How will the changes affect you and your family?

Rest assured, at Health Tradition, we’re ready for these changes. Breast Reconstruction SurgeryRegaining Confidence For many breast cancer patients, the emotional and physical scars last long after the chemo or radiation are finished. Some women find that breast reconstructive surgery makes them feel and look more like themselves – restoring self-confidence and quality of life. Mayo Clinic Health System - Franciscan Healthcare now offers a wide variety of reconstructive options for restoring breasts of cancer patients following mastectomy, lumpectomies and radiation. These procedures restore the form, symmetry and appearance of natural-looking breasts. For women with other breast issues, our plastic and reconstructive surgeons work closely with each patient to create solutions that achieve each patient’s very personal, desired results. To make an appointment, call: 608-392-9930.
