    ADJUDICATOR PROFILES:

BALLET & MODERN DANCE: Shelley Coutts, Invercargill RAD RTS Distinction, Teaching Member of NZAMD and AJDA.

Shelley has operated her own Dance Academy in Invercargill for the past 15 years, where she actively teaches RAD classical ballet, contemporary and jazz genres. Previously to this Shelley and her Family lived in Wellington for 10 years where she actively taught classical ballet at the Debra Harris School of

    Ballet.

Shelleys passion for choreography, artistry, clean technique and costuming sees many of her students competing successfully at local and Regional competitions, South Island Ballet Awards, PACANZ nominees (both solo performers and troupes) and groups performing annually in the Christmas in the Stadium variety show which performs to a live audience of 3000, and was live streamed in December 2017.

2017 was a real highlight for Shelley, which saw 3 of her female students obtain their RAD Adv 2 examination, and Dominic Burrows accepted into the New Zealand School of Dance as a full time

    Classical Major.

Both Shelleys daughters danced to Advanced levels, and competed Nationally with Ballet, jazz and contemporary dance so it is fair to say she understands the preparation time and dedication that all students and parents put into competition work.

Shelley also works Part time as a Teacher Aide in a local Primary School, and in her spare time loves cooking, gardening, sewing, and family time.

Shelley is really looking forward to visiting New Plymouth and adjudicating at the 2018 Competitions.

    TAP DANCING: Michelle Heath, Auckland

Michelle has been dancing since the age of 2 and has completed all examinations in Tap, Ballet and Jazz (BBO and RAD). Her teachers were Pat McMinn and Jillian Andrews, she has also danced with the New Zealand Ballet Company in her early years. Michelle spent time in England and Australia, and on her return to New Zealand started teaching at Waitakere City School of Dance and has continued there for the past 10 years. Michelle teaches BBO Ballet and her students sit exams yearly, she also teaches Tap, Lyrical, Stretch & Limbering, Contemporary and Jazz and competition work. Michelle has adjudicated in numerous competitions in New Zealand, her latest being Westport in April 2018. The overall level of dancing at competitions has surpassed the standards required at exam level and as an adjudicator Michelle finds it fantastic to watch. Michelle has enjoyed watching the changes to dance over the years and is excited for what the future will bring towards the dancing world.

PIANO & INSTRUMENTAL: PETER WATTS MNZM, MA (Hons), LRAM, PGCE

A musician who specialises in conducting, accompanying and directing musical projects, Peter Watts has been involved with a wide variety of music: orchestral and choral, classical and contemporary, serious and light, amateur and professional. He especially enjoys devising quirky and creative musical projects with the express aim of sparking peoples interest and actively encouraging their personal involvement in the medium of music. Through his former role as Music Director of Auckland Choral for some twenty years, Peter worked with many of New Zealand's leading vocal soloists, choral ensembles and orchestral groups. As a music examiner for Trinity College, London, Peter travels internationally each year. Back here in New Zealand, he teaches music theory and musicology at Auckland University and is active as a pianist in many chamber music ensembles. In 2005, Peter was awarded the MNZM for services to choral music. VOCAL: Lisa Harper-Brown, Wellington Critically acclaimed as radiant both vocally and visually, British-born Lisa Harper-Brown is a unique and commanding performer, and is the recipient of many prizes in the fields of performance and academia. Equally at home on the recital platform or the operatic stage, Lisa has delighted audiences from Sydney to London. She developed her skills as a member of the prestigious Young Artist Programmes for both the West Australian Opera and The Australian Opera. Following her debut on the main stage singing Pamina in The Magic Flute, Lisa performed many leading roles with Opera Australia, including A Midsummer Nights Dream, Orpheus in the Underworld, Cos fan Tutte, Die Fledermaus, Lohengrin, Salome, and The Marriage of Figaro, for which she received a coveted Sir Robert Helpmann Award. She has performed many roles with other companies as well. On the concert platform Lisa has performed with internationally respected orchestras, ensembles and conductors in a wide range of repertoire including the Exultate Jubilate, Requiem Mass, Mass in C minor, Bachs St Matthews Passion, Mendelssohns Elijah, The German Requiem by Brahms, Hndels Messiah, Faur's Requiem and many others. Lisas recital performances throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand have spanned a wide variety of styles, genres and mediums. She most recently toured with the celebrated Seraphim Trio premiering Graham Koehnes 'The Ringtone Cycle', drawing on her extensive and eclectic skill in all vocal styles from opera to cabaret. She is often heard in Festivals, on ABC Classic fm and Radio New Zealand Concert, and has recorded many new works with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and for NZs Sounz. An avid exponent of Australian music, Lisa has released two CDs promoting modern Australian Art songs, with pianist David Wickham, titled The Poet Sings and The Red of a Womans Heart. Since her relocation to New Zealand a third disc is planned which will include a significant New Zealand Art Song component. Lisa incorporates her performing commitments alongside her other passion: Teaching. Having taught Voice and Choral studies for more than 25 years in both Secondary Schools and Arts Colleges, she relishes the opportunity to work with students to expand their technique and explore their vocal potential. She currently holds a position at the New Zealand School of Music tutoring in Voice, Performance Practice and Language for Singers, and also manages a thriving Private Practice.
