2016 has been a challenging year forBritain, so we started our report bylooking to find out how people willtreat themselves this Christmas.
Attest asked our respondents, whatwould they like for Christmas? Theresponses were varied and detailed.
The most popular answers revolvedaround clothes (3% of total responses)and money (7%) with a strong showingfrom apple products, particularly theiPad (2%) and iPhone 7 (1%).

It will come as litt le surprise that there is a key difference between the genders when it comesto Christmas gifts. The most popular result amongst men was Money (2%) although therewere many iterations around gaming systems which if grouped together would prove themost popular and canvas 9% of the responses.
The most popular item amongst women was again Money (4%) followed by clothes (2%) andPerfume (1%) and a New Car (1%).

On average 50% of respondents will beshopping on their smartphone this year.

There is less than a 5% varianceacross the genders on each ofthe shopping methods askedabout.

There is clearly an influence thatretailers can have on theChristmas gift purchasing processthrough Online Advertising, with12% of respondents citing this asa principle influence.

North South Divide:People from the South-Eastwere one of the least likely tolisten to friendsrecommendations for giftswith only 12% listing this as aprinciple influence.
In the North-West 19% ofrespondents listed friends as aprinciple influence.

There is a clear increase in loyalty for retailers over brands. Something that couldinfluence future discussions between brands and retailers as prices are squeezedthis Christmas following Sterling's decrease in value.

Battle of the Sexes
It 's official, women tend to be slight ly more organised than men buying their gift s. 57% ofwomen buy their Christmas presents 3-6 months before Christmas day, whilst only 42% ofmen purchase their presents at this t ime. 33% of men purchase presents 1-2 weeks beforeChristmas, whilst only 21% of women leave it this late.
