1st Day of School Schedules handed out again on the Mall
beginning at 7:30am Requests for changes can only be made by filling
out a form located outside counselors’ office. Students should return the next day (no earlier than August 24th ) to find the result of their request.
No request for changes accepted by e-mail or phone.
Last day to request a change is Friday, August 28th.
Washburn 101 Students can use their printed schedules to get into the
building until they receive ID cards. Picture day is September 4th. ID’s distributed about two weeks later. Lost card fee is $5.
Bus Cards available through Check and Connect (Room 221) Main entrance is Door #10 (50th street). Door #3 (49th street) is
usually open for a brief window between 7:45 and 8:05 (appx) Student building hours are 7am-3:30pm unless they are in
supervised activity (tutoring, theater, sports, etc) Full-time staff hours are 8am-4pm. Breakfast is open for students from 7:45-8:10 (free) Students are assigned to one of three lunches which is based
on who their 4th hour teacher is. Students will find this out on the first day of school.
9th Graders must eat in the cafeteria. 10th-12th graders have open campus for lunch.
Washburn 101 (continued) Dress code
No headwear, hoods, bare midriffs, exposed shoulders, cleavage, exposed underwear, or any clothing with words or images that promote profanity, illegal substances, sex, harassment, or gang affiliation.
Electronics policy Use in hallways and during lunch permitted. Not in
classrooms unless with EXPLICIT permission of classroom teacher.
Tardy policy 5-minute passing time between classes.
What happens when a student receives a referral?
Grading practices
9th grade courses all operate from a common syllabi within their department.
9th grade core courses follow the same grading practices within their department.
All classes except Advisory, Study Hall, and Teacher Aide receive A-F grading for end of quarter grading.
Grade Reporting Quarterly grades are transcripted and
become part of the students permanent record (Oct 28th, Jan 14th , March 24th, June 7th)
Progress reports are mailed home at each mid-quarter.
Conferences are scheduled at mid-first quarter and mid 3rd quarter (Oct 13/14 and Feb 11/12). No appointments are taken for conferences.

Standardized Testing Not used for placement in courses but is
occasionally used to assist students in making decisions about courses and helping students develop potential college lists. Scores not always reviewed at conferences.

After-school help from your student’s teacher. Before school and after school tutoring in the Media
Center (Mon & Wed3:15-4:45; Tue & Thu 7:30-8:15). Students with IEP’s: Case Manager Students with 504 Plans: Jason Kurtz, School Psychologist Credit Recovery (ALC) begins in September. Web-based

Absences Parent or guardian must call 668-3429, between 7:00 a.m. – 12:00
noon on the day the student is absent. If a call isn’t possible, the student should bring a signed note from
you to the attendance office upon returning to school. A health care provider’s verification is required for absences that
exceed 8 cumulative or 3 consecutive days due to illness. As long as we have your correct contact number in our system a
robo-call will be made home later in the day if your student failed to show up in a class if the absence was unexcused.
If you anticipate your student will miss a significant number of days, contact each teacher directly through e-mail. If a teacher needs to leave materials to be picked up, he or she will leave them in the Main Office which closes every day at 4:00. Please allow the teacher a reasonable amount of time to get work together. This is not always possible on the same day that you call.
