We Say Yes to God through Prayer, Worship, & Service Each month during the school year, we will engage in a school- wide service project. For the month of October, we are partnering with our Student Support Team in a collection of NEW pajamas for the Dakota Woodlands Crisis Center here in Dakota County. We are asking families to donate NEW PJS - SIZES BIRTH - ADULT from Monday, October 4th - Wednesday, October 20th. Students may bring pjs to their classrooms. If our school can collect 100 pairs Mrs. Roche will give us an all-school PJ DAY”!!! LETS HELP OUT THOSE LESS FORTUNATE IN OUR COMMUNITY!!! Note from the School Nurse: we have a limited number of at home rapid antigen test kits available. They are a nasal swab. A link is below that answers questions about this test. There are videos on YouTube on how to complete the test kit as well as provided instructions. Vault still has at home tests available for you to order and they are a PCR test. Both of these testing options are free. PCR tests are a more reliable form of test and if the at home rapid test is negative, you could still be positive. Tests must be picked up by a parent. https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/schools/binaxotc.pdf https://learn.vaulthealth.com/state-of-minnesota/ Thank you so much for your continued support in providing a healthy learning community, Beth M. Each school day, with few exceptions, we need volunteers to help in the cafeteria and monitor recess on the playground. In the cafeteria, volunteers assist students with condiments, utensils, and clear tables. On

the playground, volunteers (family members of students K - 8) assist school staff with supervision and help to maintain a safe environment for the school children to play. Students love it when family

members come in and show interest in their school day! Please see the Sign-Up Genius site to volunteer! ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE E3 CERTIFIED before volunteering. Thank you!

Sunday Readings and Backgrounds

Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I : Wisdom 7:7-11 Prudence was given to me.

• The first reading stresses the value of seeking wisdom above all else.

• Wisdom is greater than all good things.

• The possession of wisdom leads to a good life. Reading II : Hebrews 4:12-13 God’s word is living.

• A hint of caution is expressed in the reading from Hebrews.

• God’s word reveals the truth to our hearts.

• It is up to us to turn to the word of God for guidance and insight. Gospel : Mark 10:17-30 Come, follow me.

• In today’s Gospel from Mark, Jesus meets a rich young man who wishes to share in everlasting life.

• The young man’s attachment to his possessions prevents him from acquiring the riches of God’s kingdom.

• Only God can give human beings the ability to let go of everything for the sake of God’s kingdom.

Activities of the Week Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:

• The rich young man in today’s Gospel could not let go of his possessions. As a family talk about what it would be like to sell everything you own. Discuss the following: What makes you truly happy? How does God help make all things possible?

• Sit down with your family and have each person bring his or her purse or wallet. Take a moment for each family member to pull out one thing that is most valuable and one thing that is least valuable. Take turns explaining your choices. As a family, discuss what it means to put God first.

• Think about the talents your family possesses. Write each one down. Then decide how you can share these “possessions” with others.

• This week when both good and bad things happen in the family, gather together and discuss how you can find God in this given situation.

Family page information can be found on the Lifelong Catechesis page of Our Sunday Visitor. OSV’s mission is to help Catholic fulfill their calling to discipleship, strengthen their relationship with Christ,

deepen their commitment to the church, and contribute to its growth and vitality in the world.
