Saint Matthew
table et profonde personnalité, son mystère.
A second collection has been designated as “Assistance to Urban Par-
ishes,” to support the mission of our inner city parishes in the Archdio-
cese of Boston. Your support is needed to maintain a Catholic presence in areas where
the economic realities of the parishioner base cannot fully support the
expenses of a parish. This collection will help bridge the funding gap.
We all share responsibility to proclaim God’s Good News of Jesus
Christ with all the people of the Archdiocese of Boston regardless of
the parish’s ability to pay. This collection will help sustain the vital
work that occurs each day in these parishes. I am grateful for your help
at this time to both impact and improve the lives of these parishioners. Thank you for all you do to financially support the needs of the wider
Church.

Meeting Christ in Prayer
John the Baptist, seeing the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus and
hearing the Father’s voice, testifies that Jesus is the Son of
God. Our faith and Sacred Scripture, the inspired word of God,
confirm this for us – He is the Son of God. So? Pray today’s
Psalm with an open heart and open mind:
“Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.”
What is God’s will for us - for you? It is to speak His name,
tell of His work in your life, help Him make disciples. Not
everyone will do this the same way. Pray to find the best
way for you to testify – talk about - Jesus.

Six Black Catholics Under
Consideration for Sainthood Could Black Catholic Saints Be the US Church’s Hidden Key for
Peace in Society?
African-American Catholics have developed a rich spiritual pat-
rimony for 500 years that has nourished holy men and women —
six of whom have active causes for canonization.
BALTIMORE — They have some of the most powerful stories
of forgiveness, love and mercy that the Catholic Church in the
United States can offer, but remain largely unknown, even
among U.S. Catholics. But as the U.S. bishops seek to promote
peace and harmony in America’s communities, the heroic holi-
ness of black Catholic men and women whose causes for canoni-
zation are under way could be the impetus to healing that the
Church — and U.S. society — is looking for.
Six men and women from the 19th and 20th centuries — Servant
of God Father Augustus Tolton, Venerable Pierre Toussaint,
Venerable Mother Henriette Delille, Servant of God Mother
Mary Lange, Servant of God Sister Thea Bowman, and now
Servant of God Julia Greeley — are under consideration for
canonization.
