Instructor Robin Irving provides piano and voice lessons for adults and children. She currently serves as the vocal coach for the Carlsbad High School Choir Department and Early College High School. She has taught private piano lessons since 1995 and performs regularly as the Collaborative Pianist for the Carlsbad Community Chorale. Community Chorale.

Instructor Robert Beck has been a professional in the music industry for over forty years. He has worked as a soloist, an ensemble performer, an agent and a contractor, and as a composer/arranger. His students have gone on to work in movies, TV, and on Broadway. Now is a time of giving back and providing instruction/coaching in guitar, piano, percussion, voice,and composing/arranging.

GuitarAdults 18 & Up; Children 8 & UpThis one-on-one course is designed to help new students get started and guitarists with some experience take their playing to the next level. The focus is on tempo, guitar timing, fret board, chord structure, and introductory theory (note reading).

Basic PianoAdults 18 & Up; Children 8 & UpThis course on the study and playing of the piano is customized to suit students with no prior piano instruction as well as those who are seeking to advance their skills. Focus is on keyboard fundamentals, chord structure, tempo, and introductory theory (note reading).

Introduction to Hand PercussionAll AgesGrab a drum or a shaker and energize, relax, and learn to communicate through rhythm. Don’t worry if you think you are rhythmically challenged, just get started and you’ll find rhythm inside you that you didn’t know you had! Bring some kind of hand percussion instrument to class. You can purchase instruments online or through the instructor for as little as $10. Orff We Go (Music for Children)Grades 1 - 5The Orff Method is a way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, poetry, drama, and the use of percussion instruments (i.e. xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels). Lessons are presented with an element of “play” helping the children learn at their own level of understanding. YogaAges 18 & UpVinyasa yoga is a flowing, dynamic sequence of poses. This type of practice involves synchronizing the breath with a continuous flow of postures. Beginning American Sign Language (ASL)American Sign Language (ASL) is the third most widely used language in America. In this class, students will learn basic vocabulary, grammar and conversational phrases used in American Sign Language. Refund PolicyYour payment, minus a $10.00 cancellation fee, will be provided if you provide a request in person or via fax or email five business days prior to the first day of class. Refund requests can be made directly to the Community Education office, faxed to 575-234-9206, or sent to ksutton1@nmsu.edu. Refunds may take up to 30 days to be processed. If a student cannot attend, a substitute may be appointed. A full (100%) refund will be given only for classes that are cancelled by NMSU Carlsbad Community Education. Please note that refunds cannot be issued for online courses through Ed2Go or Gatlin. This policy applies to all registrations, regardless of payment method. Phone requests will not be accepted.
