On behalf of the Mid‐Atlan c Associa on for Court Management, the execu‐ve and advisory boards, and all our members, we would like to personally
welcome you to MAACM.
As you will see, MAACM has much to offer. The conferences offer wonder‐ful professional development opportuni es via regional and na onally rec‐ognized speakers. You will also find through your membership, new friends and a collec ve wealth of professional knowledge. By par cipa ng in con‐ferences, ac vi es and networking events, we are confident that you will find your membership to be rewarding, both professionally and personally.
As president, I encourage you to take advantage of the many resources and networking opportuni es afforded to members of MAACM. The Mid‐Atlan c Associa on for Court Management is commi ed to the fair and effec ve administra on of jus ce through improved management of our courts. Serving as a regional forum for a broad diversity of court professionals, MAACM responds to the changing management development needs of its membership by ensuring the accessible and afforda‐ble delivery of quality‐driven con nuing educa on that encourages informa on sharing and promotes collegial networking.

The Mid‐Atlan c Associa on for Court Management (MAACM) is a professional organiza on made up of individuals commi ed to the fair and effec ve administra on of jus ce through improved management of our courts. Founded in 1993, the organiza on was created to provide accessible and affordable quality‐driven educa onal programs in a regional se ng.

STANDING COMMITTEES You can make an invaluable contribu on to MAACM by joining one of the commi ees. For more informa on about the commi ees or to join, visit the MAACM website to contact Commi ee Chairs and Co‐Chairs. BUSINESS PRACTICES COMMITTEE
The President‐Elect serves as chair of the commi ee. This commi ee is charged with maintaining MAACM’s Opera ons Manual that contains internal control policies and financial and accoun ng procedures, Code of Ethics, and the Audit Subcommi ee’s Role and Responsibili es to ensure that content is accurate and up‐to‐date. Select members of the commi ee will serve as an Audit Subcommi ee and will conduct an annual internal audit of the previous year’s financial records, review the ongoing financial and business prac ces of the associa‐on and advise the Board on budgetary ma ers. BYLAWS COMMITTEE
This commi ee serves as an advisory body to the Board on ma ers involving the bylaws. The Vice President serves as the chair of the commi ee. The commi ee iden fies areas of the bylaws in need of change or revision and prepares dra s of changes for considera on by the Board and, ul mately, the general membership.
COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
The Communica ons Commi ee is to clearly define and create the methods for effec ve communica on, both internally, among members of the associa on, and externally, with par es that are of fundamental interest to MAACM’s overall vision and mission. The key ac vi es of the commi ee will be to communicate and promote the Associa on in an effort to maintain visibility, credibility, accountability and growth. The commi ee consists of: Website Coordinator and Advisor; Audiovisual/IT Coordinator; Social Media Coordinator and The Beacon Editor, Beacon Associate Editor.
CONFERENCE COMMITTEE
The Conference Commi ee oversees plans for the mid‐year and annual conferences. Commi ee members are responsible for hospitality, social events, networking ac vi es and assis ng the president in working with conference loca on coordinators to ensure successful conferences. The commi ee consists of: Workshop Coordinator; Vendor Coordinator and Publica ons Coordinator.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
This commi ee assists the Treasurer with the financial ma ers associated with the associa on’s conferences and s mulates the interest of new, present and prospec ve members. Key areas of responsibility: demographic sur‐veys, sale of merchandise at the conferences and on‐line website store, recruitment and registra on desk.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
This commi ee is responsible for reviewing na onal and state literature in an effort to iden fy trends in court‐related training topics, assist the Board to develop and coordinate educa onal goals, and prepare educa onal curriculum. The associa on’s training needs should be assessed through surveys, interviews and collabora on with the staff trainers in all member states. Two subcommi ees have been organized: mid‐year conference and annual conference.

CONFERENCES MAACM typically holds two educa onal conferences per year. MID‐YEAR
The mid‐year educa onal conference is a one‐day event. Typically, the conference is held in June at a centrally located facility in the Mid‐Atlan c region. The Sheraton Dover Hotel in Dover, Delaware has been u lized in years past. Informa on on the mid‐year educa onal conference can be found on MAACM’s website and announcements are made via the ListServ and in the spring issue of The Beacon.
ANNUAL
The annual educa onal conference is typically held in the months of September or October in the Mid‐Atlan c region. The mul ‐day conference usually runs from Sunday through Wednesday. Informa on on the annual ed‐uca onal conference can be found on MAACM’s website and announcements are made via the ListServ and in the summer issue of The Beacon.

FAQs
WHEN ARE MEMBERSHIP FEES RENEWABLE?
Membership runs on an annual basis from January 1 through December 31. Membership fees are due each year by April 1.
WILL I RECEIVE A DUES NOTICE IN THE MAIL?
Dues renewal no ces are sent out electronically via the ListServ each year, typically in mid‐January. A Statement of Dues can also be accessed through the MAACM website and completed manually and mailed in. No ces also appear in the winter, spring and summer issues of The Beacon.
ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP:
MAACM offers educa onal scholarships for the annual educa onal conference to members of the associa on in good standing. Fourteen scholarships, ideally two awards per each eligible member state and D.C., are awarded. Scholarship awards include reimbursement for expenses incurred at the conference up to a pre‐determined amount, and the conference registra on fee is waived. Scholarship applica ons can be accessed through the MAACM website and informa on on applying for educa onal scholarships is published in the summer edi on of The Beacon. Scholarship recipients are expected to assist with assigned tasks at the conference. ICM SCHOLARSHIP:
A one thousand ($1,000) dollar scholarship will be awarded annually to an ac ve MAACM member enrolled in the ICM Fellows Program, a program of the Na onal Center for State Courts’ Ins tute for Court Management. Visit the MAACM website for addi onal informa on, eligibility requirements and how to apply.
WHAT IS MSU?
Michigan State University (MSU) has partnered with MAACM to offer Judicial Administra on Cer ficate and Degree opportuni es. MSU offers university‐approved courses in judicial administra on that can be completed by a ending MAACM conferences. These courses are based on the NACM Core Competency Curriculum Guide‐lines and when completed, can result in cer ficates and/or a masters of science degree specializing in judicial administra on. MSU representa ves can provide more informa on and answer any ques ons at the Annual Ed‐uca onal Conference. See the conference educa on program schedule for the date and me that MSU representa ves are available.
HOW SHOULD I DRESS TO ATTEND CONFERENCES?
Conference a re is business casual; some par cipants choose to dress professional. Check out the conference dinner dance theme, typically held on Tuesday evening, as some individuals opt to dress according to the theme. Be prepared to bring appropriate clothing for any evening ac vi es that may be scheduled. Conference program schedules, along with any planned ac vi es, are posted on the MAACM website prior to the annual educa onal conference for planning purposes.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE FIRST‐TIME ATTENDEES RECEPTION?
All individuals a ending the MAACM annual educa onal conference for the first me are invited and encouraged to a end this special recep on held to acquaint new par cipants with the officers, board and seasoned a endees. This is the perfect opportunity to discover more about what MAACM has to offer. The recep on is held Sunday evening, the opening night of the annual educa onal conference.
WHAT IS THE JOHN NEUFELD AWARD?
This award was established in 1999 by the MAACM Board in memory of John Neufeld, who served as the Chief of Educa on and Training for New Jersey as well as the Educa on Program Coordinator for MAACM for many years. John passed away in 1999, and this award captures the essence of John’s creed. The award is presented at the annual educa onal conference and is intended to recognize an individual or a group of individuals who develop or implement a significant or unique educa onal program or court management system in the Mid‐Atlan c region.
