A very Merry Christmas to you! As we move into Advent I would like to bring you up to date on a few things. First, the survey results. We asked for your input last month through a survey that was in the bulletin for 3 consecutive weeks. The purpose of the survey was to get your input on where you believe New Life needs to head over the course of the next 5 years. Thank you for your input which is tremen-dously helpful. Without getting into a lot of depth here, there were some common themes that were very evi-dent. Among them where such things as increased worship atten-dance, financial stability, Youth and Children’s Ministries, and community outreach were the top 4 “goals” that were most evident. In January we will be looking at this in more depth and have time as a congregation to offer input and ideas through discussion groups as we continue to clearly define how God is leading and calling us all to expand God’s Kingdom. Please pray over
these areas of growth and be look-ing for how God is specifically calling you to serve or contribute as we move forward. Let me encourage you to be a possibility thinker as you pray over these areas of growth. Our goal is to arrive at a vision for New Life that is God-given, challenging, and supported by as many people as possible. Secondly, let me take a moment and say a great big “thank you” to all of you for your amazing generosity! Our weekly offerings are helping us catch up on our Ministry Shares. Through December we are praying that we can strengthen our Emer-gency Fund, support the Food Pan-try, and continue to catch up our Ministry Shares. Again, thank you! Third, we are expanding and rede-veloping our Children and Youth ministries and we need your help! Please contact Meredith if you are interested in helping in these areas. Watch for our children in worship, on Wednesday nights at The Gathering, and during the Children's Christmas

program on Sunday Dec. 16th at 11:00AM. As the year draws to a close we approach Christmas, and as we do, we are reminded of its wonderful message. Emmanuel. God with us. He who resided in Heaven, co- equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, willingly descended into our world, breathed our air, felt our pain, knew our sorrows, and died for our sins. He did not come to frighten us, but to show us the way to warmth, safety, love, and hope so that we might do the same out in the world that He loves so much. Christmas is so much more than the celebration of the birth of Christ. It is also a reminder that we are not alone and have not been forgotten. May the grace and peace of Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be yours throughout this Christmas season. With love, Pastor John

Have you visited the New Life Library since it was moved to a room in the wing of the Education? It may surprise you to learn that we have quite an inventory of books and media. It consists of a large variety of wonderful Christian based items. For adults and teens we have fiction and non-fiction books. Fiction is quite popular with some of our various readers, but what a great selection of “true” books we have on our shelves. The following are just a sampling of subjects; marriage, bereavement, biography, par-enting, Heaven, finances (both personal and tithing), history and humor. An old fashion card catalog will help you find your choices of subject.
We also have an audio—visual inventory of videos and DVD’s on many subjects and entertain-ing movies. Check out our list in the AV notebook placed in the library. A children’s shelf unit of books as well as audio—visual collec-tion of DVD’s and videos is available. A notebook for these is also available. We invite you to come, sit, visit and check it out. Read, enjoy and share the treasures. Need help? Contact Joan Selesky or Carol Enyart, or drop a note in a box located on top of the card catalog file in the library. Yours in Christ, Joan Selesky

Sacred Lullabye
Hearken now, O do you hear it?
The sweetest song of the Spirit.
Borne on angel wings above
A song of everlasting Love.
It’s Heaven’s sweetest lullabye
Coming from our God Most High
The Father singing to the Son . . .
The greatest sacrifice, begun.
Wrapped with love, in swaddling clothes
The Father watches, for He knows . . .
The eternal destiny of His Son
Will change the life of a believing one.
Angels join the chorus clear
Heaven has drawn so very near.
Salvation’s Song for you and me
Was in the heart of God, you see.
Hearken to the Father’s call . . .
He gave His Son, He gave His all.
Help us, Lord, to hear that song . . .
That unto Him our souls belong!

And she brought forth her first born son, and
wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid
him in a manger; because there was no room
for them in the inn. Luke 2:7
Merry Christmas with Love,

Recently I was fascinated to watch my 21 month old Great-Grandson sitting on his mothers lap, and with a tiny touch of his finger they could watch a different scene on the screen of her “smart phone”. Surely the world of technology is changing before our eyes. And New Life UMC is keeping pace with updating their computer website to bring you the latest news and pictures of the happenings at New Life in every aspect of church events. Whether you are ‘computer savvy’ or still a ‘dinosaur’ the simplicity of the new website, www.newlifeunitedmethodist.com will open the way for you to enjoy pictures and events of New Life UMC. A newly formed committee of volunteers has made great strides of late, and invites you to check it out. You will find church news, pictures of activities, the monthly calendar, and even read the entire New Life Newsletter. You can now go online to make a one time gift or set up your regular giving with just a click. The committee has plans to keep the website current, and adding many new features. I am certain you will find the information interest-ing and inspirational. What a wonderful way for our ‘Snowbirds’ to keep connected to what is happening at New Life while you are away. New Life is now on Facebook, so you may want to check that out also.

Our scheduled Unit Business meeting will need to be postponed, because we all wish to participate in the Christ-mas by Candlelight on Monday, December 3rd.
Your officers will meet at another convenient date in December to de-cide where the moneys go that we feel we can put to work to answer our
call to missions. I will share that information in your January newsletter.
On Tuesday, December 10th, the Women’s Fel-lowship Circle will pack and distribute approxi-mately 25 Christmas sacks. All may share in this project if you wish to help share the joy of Christmas with those alone, ill or unable to
attend regular services.
My article is intention-ally short, so I can share a special story as my Christmas Card and Gift to all. I cannot read this story without a tear or two in my eyes. Please enjoy.

The Story of the Praying Hands
Back in the 15th cen-tury, in a tiny village near Nuremberg, lived a family with 18 children. In order merely to keep food on the table for this mob, the father and head of the household, a goldsmith by profession, worked almost 18 hours a day at his trade and any other paying chore he could find in the neighborhood. Despite their seemingly hopeless condition, two of Albrecht Durer the Elder’s children had a dream. They both wanted to pursue their talent for art, but they knew full well that their father would never be finan-cially able to send either of them to Nuremberg to study at the Academy. After many long discus-sions at night in their
brother, whose work at the academy was almost an immediate sensation. Albrecht’s etchings, his woodcuts, and his oils were far better than those of most of his professors, and by the time he gradu-ated, he was beginning to earn considerable fees for his commissioned works. When the young artist returned to his village, the Durer family held a festive dinner on their lawn to cele-brate Albrecht’s triumphant homecoming. After a long and memorable meal, punctuated with music and laughter, Albrecht rose from his honored position at the head of the table to drink a
toast to his beloved brother for the years of sacrifice that had enable Albrecht to fulfill his ambition. His clos-ing words were, “And now, Albert, blessed brother of mine, now it is your turn. Now you can go to Nurem-berg to pursue your dream, and I will take care of you.” All heads turned in eager expectation to the far end of the table where Albert sat, tears streaming down his pale face, shaking his lowered head from side to side while he sobbed and repeated, over and over, “No ...no ...no ...no.”

crowded bed, the two boys finally worked out a pact. They would toss a coin. The loser would go down into the nearby mines and with his earn-ings, support his brother while he attended the academy. Then, when that brother who won the toss completed his stud-ies, in four years, he would support the other brother at the academy, either with sales of his artwork or, if necessary, also by laboring in the mines. They tossed a coin on a Sunday morning after church. Albrecht Durer won the toss and went off to Nuremberg. Albert went down into the dangerous mines and, for the next four years, financed his

were 57 in all!
Thank you for all who took part in wrapping the boxes.
Thank you for all who donated funds, so our Wednesday night kids could pack 10 boxes of those 57.
Thank you for all who sent their prayers out and continue to pray for these boxes.
Thank you to Meredith and Micah, who delivered those boxes to Mount Pleasant Community Church, to be sent out.
God is Good—All the time! Circle of Friends
Earlier this fall eight mem-bers of three local churches gathered at Albright Camp near Reed City for a work and fellowship week. Three other members came up to work for one day.
Some of the projects accom-plished were: hanging screen doors in cabins, for next sum-mer; cutting down and remov-ing trees to enlarge a play ground area; power washing buildings; splitting camp fire wood; moving and building a roof over the camp sign; re-placing facia on a building. Also, cleaning and organizing
in the kitchen and dining room.
The evenings were filled with fellowship, devotions and Bible discussions, much story-telling—of which some might have even been true.
Just a good time of shar-ing— some fun and some very serious. A trip is planned for next year. I hope to see you there.

P.S. Sharon Gray did her usual job of providing
delicious meals.
I wish to thank my family for the surprise birthday party they had for me at New Life Church. Thanks to the many relatives and friends who came to visit also all the cards, gifts and a special rose. It made my 90th birthday very special.

Finally, Albert rose and wiped the tears from his cheeks. He glanced down the long table at the faces he loved, and then, holding his hands close to his right cheek, he said softly, “No, brother. I cannot go to Nur-emberg. It is too late for me. Look … look what four years in the mines have done to my hands! The bones in every finger have been smashed at least once, and lately I have been suffering from arthritis so badly in my right hand that I cannot even hold a glass to return your toast, much less made delicate lines on parchment or canvas with a pen or a brush. No, brother … for me it is too late.”
More than 450 years have passed. By now Albrecht Durer’s hundreds of masterful portraits, pen and silver-point sketches, watercolors, charcoals, woodcuts, and copper engravings hang in every great museum in the world, but the odd are great that you, like most people, are familiar with only one of Albrecht Durer’s works. More than merely being familiar with it, you very well may have a reproduction hanging in your home or of-fice.
One day, to pay homage to Albert for all that he had sacrificed, Albrecht Durer painstakingly drew his brother’s abused hands with palms together and thin fingers stretched skyward. He called his powerful draw-ing simply “Hands,” but the entire world almost immedi-ately opened their hearts to his tribute of love “The Praying Hands.”
The next time you see a copy of that touching crea-tion, take a second look. Let it be your reminder, if you still need one, that no one—no one—- ever makes it alone!

The Membership Care & Welcome Committees would like to see more interaction of the congregation. We are planning an informal Sunday Night Supper, which would include 8 adults. Are you willing to have a Sunday Night Supper, to get better acquainted with the people of the Church? We could play games, watch a foot-ball or baseball game or just visit. This would be very informal—so lets get to know each other. More to come . . .

There was a discussion about the amount of money we pay for apportionments. The payments are set through 2013 and have no chance of changing until 2014. We again discussed overspending in budget line items and how we can control this problem.
Old Business:
It was clarified that the trustees have determined that any undesignated money given to capital im-provement at this time will go toward the parking lot paving.
Information Items:
Linda Seiter is the new choir director.
Christmas gift cards will again be sold this year.
Mel is going to write a grant to hopefully get our church a defibrillator.
Meredith reported that trunk or treat was a huge success. Next year we will try to expand more on this ministry.
Fire safety—Mel reported that we can’t get a wheelchair out of the door by the piano in the sanctuary. We must also check out the safety of the liquid being used to light the altar candles.

The New Life United Meth-odist Church was formed from three local churches. Realizing their need to come together and meet as one entity, brought this con-gregation to where they are today. This church was built in 2001, and has grown from that time on. There are
services and activities for all ages and conditions of your life. Come and wor-ship on Sunday mornings, at 9am, or at 11:00am. We also have Sunday School for all ages at 10:00am.. You may be interested in coming to the Gathering on Wednesday evenings, at 6:00pm, for dinner, fellowship, and fun. Check our calendar and web site for other op-portunities.
