JOIN THE COUNCIL Mission The mission of the East Bay Leadership Council is to provide advocacy on public policy issues affecting the economic vitality and quality of life in the East Bay. The Council’s primary functions are: Advocacy on public policy issues. Leadership for regional economic prosperity. Education and networking opportunities for all Council members. The Council’s public policy platform is driven by our task forces, which are led by top professionals in their fields. The task forces identify issues, become informed on those issues and develop sound positions for the Board of Directors to consider for official advocacy. Participation on the Council’s task forces is open to any employee of a member firm. Subject-matter expertise is always welcome, but interest motivates many to participate. It is an excellent way to stay informed, help shape Council advocacy and network with other leaders in your field. Mission

The mission of the East Bay Leadership Council is to provide advocacy on public policy issues affecting the economic vitality and quality of life in the East Bay.The Council’s primary functions are:

• Advocacy on public policy issues.

• Leadership for regional economic prosperity.

• Education and networking opportunities for all Council members.

Costa County and the Tri-Valley region.

• Foster actions that support the growth of industry.

• Promote entrepreneurship.

• Support the creation and retention of local economic vitality and keep the region competitive in the rapidly changing global economy.

environmental/Manufacturing• Track environmental and regulatory issues important

to member businesses.

• Form sub-committees on key issues.

• Direct advocacy efforts to appropriate public agencies.

Health• Review health care issues and provide timely information

to members.

• Advise the Council on policy to improve the health and economic vitality for all.

Land use• Host speakers and discussions on timely land use topics.

• Monitor politics and regulations affecting land development.

• Formulate Council policy on pending issues.

• Support Council advocacy to public agencies on key concerns and major projects.

small Business/entrepreneur• Support the success of small business.

• Promote the value of small business in economic vitality and quality of life.

• Promote the increased use of local small businesses in providing goods and services to corporations and government through seminars, conferences and workshops.

• Monitor proposed legislation on items of importance to the small business community.

social responsibility• Build and strengthen partnerships between for profit and

nonprofit business sectors.

• Provide a forum to pursue shared public policy goals.

• Enhance the recognition of the nonprofit sector’s contribution to the region’s economic health.

• Explore ways the two sectors can work together within the Council’s mission.

• Produce the Contra Costa/Tri-Valley Philanthropy Awards.

transportation• Work with the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and

the Alameda County Transportation Commission.

• Support key regional projects.

• Promote sources of funding.

Water• Balance water supply needs with environmental

protection.

• Support recycling & system improvements to American River.

• Support reasonable customer water rates.

Workforce development & education• Strengthen the workforce and working partnerships with

education, business, public agencies and community-based organizations.
