Your child deserves…
…to be treated as an important and separate individual with unique feelings, needs, ideas and desires.
Your child deserves…
…not to participate in the painful games parents play to hurt each other, or to be put in the middle of their battles.
Your child deserves…
…not to be used as a message courier, informant, spy or go-between for parents.
Your child deserves…
…a continuing, relaxed and secure relationship with both parents.
Your child deserves…
…to express love and affection for, and receive love and affection from, both parents, as well as members of their blended families.
Your child deserves…
…to know that expressions of love between children and parents will not cause fear, disapproval or other negative consequences.
Your child deserves…
…to know that
it is not their responsibility to keep their parents together.
Your child deserves…
…continuing care, guidance and limit setting from both parents.
Your child deserves…
…answers to their questions about changing family relationships that are free from blame, and that are age-appropriate.
Your child deserves…
…to know and
appreciate what is good in each parent.
Your child deserves…
…to be protected from hearing degrading or negative comments about either parent.
Your child deserves…
…to be able to experience regular, consistent, and flexible family time with each parent, and to know the reason for any changes to the parenting schedule.
Your child deserves…
…to have neither parent interfere with, undermine, or discourage parenting time with the other parent.
Your child deserves…
…not to be forced to choose one parent over the other, or to be encouraged to take sides.
Your child deserves…
…to express feelings, concerns and ideas about changing family relationships.
Your child deserves…
…to remain a child without being asked to take on parental responsibilities or to be an adult friend, companion or confidant to either parent.
Your child deserves…
…the most adequate level of economic support that can be provided from the best efforts of both parents.
Your child deserves…
…continuing, ongoing, positive relationships with friends, neighbors & extended family.
Your child deserves…
…to appreciate the uniqueness of each parent’s home.
Your child deserves…
…not to be used as a bargaining chip or a pawn.
Your child deserves…
…to be free from questions about the other parent’s private life.
Your child deserves…
…to see their parents, and other family members, treat each other in a respectful and courteous manner.
Your child deserves…
…to develop and maintain friendships and engage in activities without the fear of losing time with a parent.
Your child deserves…
…clear, reasonable, and consistent limits set by agreement of both parents, that are presented by the parents as a unified front.
Your child deserves…
…a clear separation of their parents’ relationship from the parental relationship.
