Transcript of New Inventor Tutorial - Create a Hex Bolt -...
Step 1 Start a sketch in Inventor and make a polygon with 6 sides i.e., a hexagon with a diameter of approximately 1.00 inch (Optional: You can use geometric constraints to align on of the sides vertically, and you can add a dimensional constraint for a perfect size).
Step 2 Finish the sketch.
Step 3 Extrude the sketch profile to 0.250 inches.
Step 4 Click OK to finish the extrusion.
Step 5 Right click on this plane and create a new sketch.
Step 6 Sketch a circle->finish sketch
Step 7 Extrude the sketch of the circle to a depth of 1.40 inches. Click OK to finish.
Step 8 Click on thread tool in the Modify panel.
Step 9 Select the body of the bolt to create a thread profile.
Step 10 Click on specification. Select ANSI Metric M profile (or any other as per your requirements).
Step 11 Select the thread designation. Click OK.
Step 12 In the Work Features Panel, select Plane->Midplane between Two Parallel Planes.
Step 13 Select opposite planes of the bolt head as shown.
Step 14 Start a new 2d sketch on the plane
Step 15 Select the Line tool.
Step 16 Sketch a triangular profile and a line passing through the middle. Finish the sketch.
Step 17 In the Create Panel, select Revolve.
Step 18 Select the appropriate parameters.
Step 19 Click OK.
Step 20 Hide the plane.
You should now have a completed bolt. Save this as “Your name_Hex Bolt.ipt” in your My Documents folder to show your teacher on Friday.
