Presidential
Citation
Criteria for
2009-10There are only 4 criteria for the Presidential Citation this year. The first is the membership goal of a net increase of at least "one new member by 31 March.
There are only another 3 "and these require your club to complete one activity from any of the 6 categories in the RI Strategic plan 2007-2010. These are Polio Eradication, Public Image, Service, Membership, Vocational Service and Leadership.
The criteria are very broad and if clubs are carrying out an active program, their projects will fit into several of the following categories"
Below are some suggestions for each of these categories:
Polio EradicationOrganise a fund raising initiative to support polio e r a d i c a t i o n . C l u b contribution of at least US $1000
Public ImagePR for Rotary in the form of an article in your local newspaper about one of your projects or events. Have a
stand about Rotary and Rotary projects at one of you fund raising events or promotional events in shopping centres etc"
Increase capacity to provide serviceConduct a community needs assessment to establish a service project in any of the 4 avenues of Service (Community, Vocational i n c l u d i n g Y o u t h , International and Club) that will involve 50% of club members. " This may be an existing community project, ie. Water wells, working with school , community etc. Conduct an international service project either as a host or sponsor"
Expand MembershipIncrease diversity of club. Recruit 2 people from different demographic group, age, religion , ethnicity etc or who have experience in community, vocational or international service. Have 20% of club bring a guest to a meeting who could possibly be a prospective Rotarian." This could be done at an Information night.
Vocational ServiceStart or support mentoring young people in vocational skills and business ethics. Mock interviews for high school students, work experience placements, John Curtin Leadership Academy.
Have a member register as a Rotary Volunteer. Support a project on RAWCS Western Region website."
LeadershipCultivate leaders in Youth – sponsor someone to attend RYLA or RYPEN, sponsor or host a Youth Exchange student, nominate or host an ambassadorial scholar. Have members attend one of the District 9450 Journey to Leadership events.
What in the
World is
Rotary? The Rotary Club of Lane Cove, in District 9680 on Sydney's North Shore, has just completed production of a wonderful new eight-minute community service announcement on what it means to be a Rotarian.
Narrated by award winning newsreader Roger Climpson -- himself a member of the Rotary Club of Lane Cove -- the video is now available on the Rotary Down Under website.
This is the perfect Rotary PR tool for your club. It will make a great audio-visual presentation for a club open day. What in the World is Rotary? Click here to find out.
From the
President ElectJuly 1st marked a new Rotary year, and our club has now been in existence for over 6 months!
W i t h o u t m e m b e r participation, a Rotary club is nothing, and as such, I'd like to encourage you all to give some thought to what you would like to get out of Rotary this Rotary year - what you would like to see our club do?
We have a club forum coming up on July 25th, which is your opportunity to give input on projects , fundraising, and very importantly, our club foundation. The committee meetings are also an invaluable opportunity for you to play a role in helping us plan and implement meaningful projects locally and internationally.
Don't forget that our Christmas in July function is a couple of days before the club forum.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Please remember that if you aren't able to make it, let us know as soon as possible so we can have the catering for the meeting adjusted accordingly.Regards Simone

Rotary Resources - PR
"It doesn't matter how good you are if nobody knows you're there...."
This statement from Roger Johnston, Marketing Consultant, says it all.
In these days of falling service club membership, how can you attract new members to share the work - and the fun? This question is on every Rotarian's lips and is probably the most important aspect of Rotary right now - membership growth depends on marketing your club. No growth inevitably means a decline in numbers.
Rotary Down Under would like to help you. Please read the pdf about PR >>.

The Rotary FoundationWeek 1: This week’s Rotary Foundation Thought is about PolioPlus. In 1985, Rotarians made a promise to the children of the world to eradicate polio. Since PolioPlus began, the number of polio cases
worldwide has declined by 99 percent, thanks largely to the efforts of Rotarians around the world.
Rotarians have committed nearly US$650 million toward global polio eradication efforts. Already, five million children are walking who would have been paralyzed, and more than 1.5 million lives have been saved. None of this
would be possible if it weren’t for Rotary’s leadership and vision. What a wonderful legacy we are leaving to the children of the world. Goodbye Polio. Thank you, Rotary.
Christmas In
July
The club will be holding a Christmas In July dinner on Thursday 23rd July - 6:30pm for 7:00pm start.
It is open to family and friends, and we'd love you to invite them along. Bring a whole table! It is a fundraising event for the club, and we need a minimum of 30 people for catering purposes The cost will be $50pp, which will cover the cost of dinner, wine.
Instructions for
16th JulyDue to a conflicting booking of the Bethesda Cafe on the 16th July, we will be using the Seminar Room on the 1st Floor.
Roh will signpost the way - once you enter through the main entrance to the hospital, there are stairs and a lift immediately on the left. If you take the lift to the first floor, turn left, and the Seminar room will be sign posted, a little way up the corridor on the right hand side.
