8 of 10 news in the main Galician newspaper show rallies or confrontation between fishers and managers.

Managers complain that their regulations are routinely ignored, while fishermen argue that these regulations are implemented without their participation.

Philosophy behind GAP2 and GEPETO

GAP2 project in Galicia

Participatory approach to integrate FK on target species and fishing grounds with SK and with the results of a fisheries monitoring to allocate CPUE to improve the spatial information of the coastal fisheries.

GEPETO project in Galicia

Regional approach to fisheries management by associating professional, scientific, fishers and NGOs. Combines stakeholders’ resources and capabilities to improve the long-term sustainability and profitability of the Galician octopus fishery.

We identified local experts by a snowball procedure and performed 4 semi-directed personal interviews to octopus fishers and skippers.

In the interviews, the fishers sketched in maps the extension of the areas where they fish for octopus.

The information was introduced in a GIS superimposing the information obtained from each fisher to achieve a single layer.
