3 Read the descriptions and complete.

British magical creatures

In Great Britain there are a lot of legends and stories about amazing magical creatures. People likethese stories because they like magic.

A lot of old English stories have dragons in them. Dragons are big, green creatures. They’ve got big

wings and they can fly. They’ve got long strong necks and small ears. They’ve got red eyes and big

mouths with big teeth. Their nostrils are large. Fire comes out of dragons’ nostrils! People scream

when they see a dragon because dragons eat people.

In Devon and Cornwall people tell stories about pixies. Pixies have short ears. They wear green

clothes and small hats. They are not always good to people. People usually leave some food or milk 

for pixies because they are often hungry or thirsty. When they are not hungry or thirsty, they are

happy and they are good.

Brownies are little people. They live in England and Scotland. They live in dark places in houses.At night they sweep the floor, dust and polish the furniture, clean the carpets. People like them!

Irish people tell stories about fairies. Fairies are good creatures. They look like very small people

with wings. They are usually young girls and they are often very pretty! They usually have got long

hair, big eyes and a small nose. They wear nice dresses.

In Ireland you can also meet Leprechauns. They are little old men. They wear green clothes. They

are usually quiet and shy, but sometimes they do bad things to people. They work – they usually

make shoes. They have lots of money! People often want to find them and take the money, but it’s

difficult!

4 Read the story. Put the events in the correct order.

It was a dark night. Sue and Sam were in a car. They visited lots of interesting places in Cornwall.

They were tired. Suddenly the car stopped.

‘What happened with the car?’, asked Sue.

‘I don’t know.’, said Sam. ‘Let’s telephone for help. Have you got your phone?’

Sue looked into her rucksack. Her mobile phone wasn’t there, but she found a torch. Then the wind

 blew and it started to rain.

‘It’s very stormy.’, said Sue. She was scared.

‘Look! There is a castle!’, said Sam. ‘Perhaps someone can help us. Quick! Let’s go and see.’ It was

dark so he took Sue’s torch. Sue didn’t want to go. ‘Please, Sam, I want to stay in the car.’, she said,

 but Sam jumped out of the car and pulled Sue with him. It was very cold. Sue saw a path between

the rocks. ‘Oh, it’s good we’ve got the torch!’, she said. They climbed to the castle. It was huge, but

completely dark.

‘I think there isn’t anyone in,’ said Sue. She wanted to go back to the car.

‘Let’s knock at the door’, said Sam.

Sue didn’t answer. She was scared and she didn’t want to knock, so Sam did it.

There was no answer. ‘Let’s go back’, said Sue. ‘There are no people in the castle’. ‘Be quiet.’, said

Sam. ‘I think somebody is snoring. Listen!’ They waited for some time and finally Sam opened the

door. Suddenly there was a loud scream.

‘Help! Help!’, they heard.

‘There’s someone in the house. They need help!’, said Sam….
