The Children's Museum of Eastern Oregon provides children of all ages with opportunities for educational exploration and development through interactive exhibits and play.
New exhibit at CMEO: Jungle Reading Corner! CMEO opened a new exhibit called the Jungle Reading Corner this Spring. The new exhibit consists of a cozy tree canopy setting, many new books for children of all ages, and plush animal friends to cuddle with. Look closely into the trees and you’ll find monkey’s and butterflies too! With the addition of this new exhibit, CMEO now has 12 hands-on exhibits since the new Jungle Reading Corner was made in an empty corner of the museum. “We’re focusing on better utilizing the space we have along with providing more resources to the community,” said Jill Gregg, CMEO Executive Director. “And you can’t have too many opportunities for children and families to enjoy reading together!” CMEO invites you to come down to the new Jungle Reading Corner and curl up with your favorite book and child. Or join CMEO staff on Friday’s at 10:15am for Story Time. “Reading is extremely important in early educational development,” said Gregg. “We hope our new exhibit helps spread the joy of reading amongst children and families.” The Jungle Reading Corner was funded through generous grants form the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation and the Autzen Foundation, as was constructed by Zollman Construction.

CMEO awards Sara Colton as 2010 Volunteer of the Year
CMEO is pleased to announce that Sara Colton was chosen as the 2010 Volunteer of the Year. Through her dedication, high energy, and passion for the museum, Colton was as great fit for the 2010 Volunteer of the Year award. Colton first started coming to the museum in over 4 years ago. She currently runs a nanny share business and brings down the children at least once a week. During this time in the museum, she started to volunteer for more and more tasks. From sorting change in the coin drop, to watching the front desk and helping organize programs, Colton has been a huge help to the staff at CMEO. This last year she helped kick off the “Night at the Children’s Museum” childcare evening and has volunteered at the event every single night. “Without Sara’s help the Night at the Children’ Museum event wouldn’t be nearly as successful,” said Jill Gregg, CMEO Executive Director. In addition to volunteering in the museum, Colton is an active advocate for the museum out in the community. Colton is often found in her free time exposing new families to the museum and sharing information about the museum with the community. “Sara is a huge help to us here at CMEO and we really appreciate her enthusiasm,” said Gregg.
