CONNECTORS

Page 2: New connectors

A Connector is a word that

join ideas. They are a great

way of improving your

English. Why? Because we

use them to express

relationships between ideas

and to combine sentences.

What is a connector?

Page 3: New connectors

When we begin learning a

language, we speak in very

basic sentences, a bit like

children.

Example: “London is a very

exciting city. London is very

expensive.”

Why are connectors necessary?

Page 4: New connectors

As we learn more words, we are able to start using sentence connectors to make more sophisticated sentences.

Example: • “London is a very exciting

city; nevertheless it is also very expensive”

• “Despite the fact that London is very expensive, it is also very exciting”

Why are connectors necessary?

•   The best way to explain how to use these words is to simply give you examples.

One thing they all have in common is that they are usually

attached to clauses.

That means they are attached to a group of words that

contains a subject and a verb.
