LDear customers, partners andfriends of HERZ,

A company that is a service providerfor its customers – that’s what HERZstrives to be and to this end we offerour clients extensive services, trainingand instruction. There are two mainareas of focus for this – both withinAustria and internationally:

HERZ offers an "in-house service",i. e. product training and workshopswithin our own training centre at In-zersdorf in Vienna which is equippedwith the latest presentation equip-ment. In the first 6 months of 2003 wewelcomed 900 completely satisfiedguests. Included in the training pro-grammes were a tour of the plant andtechnical instruction. By the end ofthe year we expect approximately1,500 guests to have visited HERZ inVienna. The technical training iscompletely adapted to the interestsand requirements of our customersand partners. The extensive trainingschedule, included in the current edi-tion of HERZ NEWS, gives a broadoverview. Our employees will be hap-py to provide you with further infor-mation.

HERZ is not only active in Austria. Asalready mentioned, we promote edu-cation and training at an internatio-nal level, i.e. by co-operating withuniversities, universities of appliedscience and technical colleges. In earlyJune 2003 we made available a labo-ratory, fully equipped with HERZproducts, to the students of the uni-versity for construction and architec-ture in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This edition of HERZ NEWS also pre-sents the new HERZ cooling valveswhich are an important recent addi-tion to the Mediterranean marketsand which are becoming increasinglyimportant in Austria. Scientific stu-dies prove that manpower efficiencydecreases by more than 50 % if theroom temperature is too high. It istherefore worth investing in the typeof comfortable ambient temperatureprovided by HERZ products, and youcan rest assured that we and our staffprovide outstanding performance atany time of the year!

Report

For its "Meeting House" project in Inns-bruck, the diocese of Innsbruck (Aus-

tria/Tyrol) decided to install an environ-mentally friendly and fully automaticHERZ "biomatic" pellet fire unit with athermal performance of 300 kW. Installa-tion was carried out in autumn 2002.The new two-storey building, which alongwith an existing villa is also fitted with cen-tral heating, is now supplied with environ-mentally friendly heat. The villa’s energysupply runs via a pipeline. The system isheated with wooden pellets, an environ-mentally friendly and clean fuel that provi-des a high thermal value. The HERZscrew-type extractor with mixing machineguarantees continuous transportation ofpellets from the storage to the heating sy-stem. The fuel storage can hold approxi-mately 30 tons and is filled from the outsi-de using a pellet fuelling vehicle.

Environmental protection usingCO2 neutral heatingUsing a HERZ biomatic system preservesfossil fuels and reduces fossil CO2 emis-sions because biomass is CO2-neutral. Fur-thermore HERZ fuel systems are the bestoption when using wood as an energy sour-ce in the most sensitive and effective way. This also safeguards jobs in Austria in thefields of fuel generation and the construc-tion of fuel heating systems.HERZ biomatic biomass fuel heating sy-stems for pellets or chips are availablefrom 180 kW to 500 kW. These installa-tions are the "heart" of every central hea-ting and they are used by many importantcustomers for the supply of property heatand short-distance heat in congested areasas well as for micro networks, i. e. smallconurbations or urban districts.

HERZ biomass heating systemsare characterized by:■ Compact modular design – small bring-

in dimensions■ No ashes■ Quick adjustment■ Up-to-date fuel heating adjustment –

adjustment of low pressure and lambda■ Automatic firing

■ Suitable for fuel"pellets" or "chips"

■ High efficiency■ Lowest emissions■ Automatic cleaning

of heat exchangersand ash removal

■ Easy handling

Projects

The Komárno project – conversionto HERZ valves has led to energysavings of up to 30 % per year.

BackgroundIn the mid-nineties a housing corporationin the southern Slovakian city of Komárnostarted a large campaign to renovate panelconstruction prefabricated houses whichare typical within Eastern Europe andwhich were built between 1965 and 1975.It was their aim to bring maximum impro-vement with regard to the lack of modernroom temperature facilities at the lowestpossible cost.Firstly, different variants were tested, e. g.additional inside or outside insulation, re-placement of windows and doors and reno-vation of the heating system. After calcula-ting these options, they decided to use athermostatic control for the existing radia-tors (made of cast iron, steel or panels). Inaddition, each radiator was to be equippedwith an evaporation-heat counter. Thepipelines of the two-pipe system were leftunchanged, however, the heating sectionswere equipped with circuit regulating val-ves for hydraulic balancing.

Energy saving with the help ofthermostatic controlIn spring 1995 the HERZ Slovakian subsi-diary, HERZ s.r.o., based in Bratislava, was assigned to renovate the heating sy-stems of 92 properties with a total of ap-proximately 4,000 flats. HERZ ther-mostatic valves, series 90, and HERZ ther-mostatic heads 7260 were installed in everyflat. To guarantee an exact water distri-bution, each property was equipped withHERZ STRÖMAX M circuit regulatingvalves.

3-step renovationThe installation started in July 1995 andwas performed in three steps. To achievehydraulic balancing within the propertiesthe radiators were equipped in advancewith HERZ TS-90-V thermostatic valves, suitable for pre-setting and HERZ 1 7260 06thermostatic heads. The second step was to

install HERZ 4002 differential pressureflow rate controllers in the risers. To gua-rantee precise water distribution, eachproperty was then equipped with HERZSTRÖMAX-M circuit regulating valves.

The hydraulic balancing set up by HERZSTRÖMAX M guarantees that the indivi-dual flats are constantly supplied withenergy. Before the renovation the ownersof the flats were very dissatisfied as,

From nought to market leader in less than 10 yearsWhen the new Slovakian team, consisting of managing director,Vendelin Hozzank and three

employees, established the HERZ subsidiary, Herz spol. s.r.o. in Bratislava in 1994, it was a rarity

to find HERZ products on the market. In less than 10 years the team has grown to ten employees

and the company is now the market leader.

The Slovakian HERZ team – pictured here at the CONECO fair in Bratislava in April 2003 – hasachieved great success by renovating old heating systems all over the country, and is proud tobe the Slovakian market leader (Pictured from left to right: Mr Mikusík, representative MiddleSlovakia; Mr Hozzank, managing director HERZ Bratislava; Mrs Chovanová, indoor servicing;Gerhard Glinzerer, managing director HERZ Armaturen; Mr Rabík, representative Eastern Slovakia).

The project in figures■ 43 flats per property

■ 63 m2 per flat

■ € 95 non-recurring investmentper flat

■ 2,249 kWh energy savingsper flat per year

■ € 59 savings on heating costsper flat per year

Thanks to the renovation measuresdescribed above, we have helped toreduce energy usage by 30% per year. The residents who invested their ownmoney in the housing improvement willreceive good returns within just twoyears.

Products and innovations

Workforce efficiency decreases atincreased room temperaturesWith its range of room cooling products,HERZ is taking note of an importanttrend. Those who think that air conditio-ning is a pure luxury are in the minoritynowadays. On the contrary, numerous stu-dies have proven that workforce efficiencydecreases by up to 50 % when room tempe-ratures increase (see power loss graph atthe top of page 6). In order to respond tothis phenomenon, new buildings locatedwithin our latitudes are increasingly beingequipped with air conditioning systemsand old buildings are being renovated. In earlier times an air conditioning systemwas not necessary due to the constructionof most buildings, which were not equipped

with large windows, the ceilings were higherand massive storage areas were createdthrough wide brickwork construction. Also, inside sources of heat were not prevalent, such as computers and electrical lighting.

Various air conditioning optionsAir conditioning can be established usingextended surface coolers (floor and/or

depending on the location, the flats wereeither supplied with too little energy (inwinter only 16 °C) or too much energy.Following the successful completion, anot-her 70,000 flats in Slovakia have been re-novated over the past few years. This re-presents an energy saving of approx. 4.12million euros (€) per year. Thanks to the157 million kW hours of energy saved, an-other 25,000 flats can be supplied withoutadditional power generation systems ha-ving to be provided.

There is a choice oftwo separate control and supply circuits(4 conductor method) or one supply cir-cuit for summer (= cooling) and one forwinter operation (= heating) – 2 conduc-tor method).

Cold water valves –new at HERZWith the new room cooling product

group HERZ is entering into another

important area of domestic application.

Further projects already started orin planningHERZ looks after projects similar to theKomárno project in Slovakia, e.g. in the citiesof Trnava, Skalica, Revúca, Pezinok, Malacky,Senec, Zvolen, Kosice and Bratislava. Si-milar renovations are also being planned. As the comparable panel constructions andtwo-pipe systems can also be found in othereastern European countries, renovationprojects are also recommended for them. There are many advantages alongside mini-mal outlay – energy saving and the associatedcost saving, improved modern appliancesand less harm to the environment.

HERZ valves are used for roomcooling for the first timeThe brand new HERZ cold-water valvesare being used in Slovakia for the firsttime. For two large projects, constructionof the European Business Centre and thePlynaárenská business centre, more than1,000 HERZ Strömax TS-90-E (articlenumber 1 7217 31) valves will be in-stalled. Both business centres are to befinished by the end of 2003. The HERZvalves are used as control valves for fancoils. The next article provides more in-formation about this new HERZ productgroup.

Thanks to HERZproducts such asTS-90-V thermosta-tic valves, the"Komárno" projecthelped to achieve ayearly energy savingof up to 30 %.

Perfectly coveredThe design cover for the HERZ 3000 is now available in

two white tints and chrome. Other colours can be supplied

upon request.

The new cover with its attractive style isthe perfect integration of HERZ-3000

bypass bodies and connection parts, whichcompletes the connection of design radia-tor and thermostatic head. The powdercoated cover made of steel sheets can nowbe ordered in the standard versions ofpure white (RAL 9010), traffic white(RAL 9016) and chrome. All other sanitarycolours – suitable for the HERZ ther-mostatic series DE LUXE or according toyour personal favourite design – are avail-able upon request.

The cover dimensions 100 (l) x 85 (h) x 30(d) mm are made of 1 mm steel sheet andare powder coated. To fasten the covers tothe HERZ-3000 system, use a snap-onmounting.

To measure the static pressure a flexiblemeasuring tube simply has to be

mounted. The device automatically measu-res the overpressure of the system in rela-tion to the air pressure. To measure thedifferential pressure, use the attached me-asuring hoses. The red flexible tube is usedto measure the higher pressure and theblue one is used to measure the lower pres-sure.

Saving of up to2,500 measuring valuesDepending upon the control fitting andvalve pre-setting, the flow is calculated anddisplayed. If the valve data is not saved, enter a kV value and calculate the flow.

Up to 2,500 measuring values can be savedand a time interval of 1 to 24 hours ente-red. If making a long recording, the deviceautomatically switches to the energy sa-ving mode.

Delivery includesfull accessoriesThe HERZ measuring computer is packedin a box. The package includes 2 measu-ring hoses with R20-quick acting closure, filter hose adapters and a shoulder strap. It also contains an adapter for HERZ mea-suring valves in the existing version, oneset of HERZ measuring valves 0284 (newversion), as well as software and an opera-tion manual on CD-ROM.

During the Astana building fair, whichtook place in Kazakhstan from May

21st to 23rd 2003, the HERZ representati-ves had the honour of welcoming an im-portant guest. The first Kazakhstan cosmo-naut, Tokhtar Aubakitov, (centre of pictu-re) visited the HERZ exhibition stand. He

was personally welcomed by Gerhard Glin-zerer (left in the picture), HERZ managingdirector and Djomard Raimdjanov, mana-ging director of the partner company UL-Al, who provided information about pro-ducts and innovations. Talking about hisprivate heating, this man who was awarded

the highest of state honours puts his trustin Austrian expertise and has equipped hishome with HERZ valves.

"Warmth delivered by HERZ" forthe guests of the republicDuring their visits to Kazakhstan, impor-tant guests from all over the world willsoon enjoy the "Warmth of HERZ". Theofficial guesthouse of the Republic ofKazakhstan, which is still at the planningstage, will be equipped with HERZ heatingproducts.

René Reutterer and Werner Müller are twoViennese composers whose works uphold

the tradition of the Vienna waltz. They crea-ted the "Vienna Waltz Workshop" (for moreinformation go to http://welcome.to/waltz)to continue the Vienna musical traditiontaking into account contemporary elements. The "Fittings Waltz" ("Armaturen Wal-zer") is the first work of Reutterer/Mül-

HERZ KazakhstanKazakhstan cosmonaut put his trust in HERZ fittings in his home.

Music from the heart… the "Plumber-Polka" ("Installateur Polka"), opus 2

by the Reutterer/Müller composer duo, was created

in 1998. HERZ Armaturen dedicated this work of art,

composed in the style of 19th century Vienna music,

to its customers and friends and "immortalized" the

piece on a CD, recorded by the Vienna Violin Quartet.

In June 2003 the Russian version was performed for

the first time.

The official guesthouse of the Republic of Kazakhstan will beequipped with HERZ products.

Tokhtar Aubakitov is well known in all the countries of the formerSoviet Union. He is as renowned as Yuri Gagarin who is known toeverybody. In May 2003, the "Hero of the Kazakhstan republic"was a guest at the HERZ exhibition stand.

"While the "Fittings Waltz"flows in an industrial waltzrhythm, the "Plumbers’Polka" is a cheerfulcounterpoint with symbolicmeaning. HERZ Armaturenhas dedicated this polka toall plumbers and heatingengineers", wrote thefamous musical criticDr. Wilhelm Sinkovicz.

ler, with which they thank HERZ for its long and sound co-opera-tion. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Johann Strauß’(senior) death, the work was presented during the first concert forHERZ customers in the museum of natural history in Vienna on25th September 2003.HERZ Armaturen then commissioned a piece of work which wasdedicated to all customers and partners of HERZ. This is how the"Plumbers’ Polka" evolved, the musical topic of which picks up onthe plumber’s work.

Immortalized on the "Vienna installations II" CDThe CD was produced as a gift to HERZ customers and friends andcontains a short history of the Vienna music scene. It starts chronolo-gically with the first work of Joseph Lanner, reminiscent of Schubert’s"New Vienna Country Dance" and leads into various stages of deve-lopment from the Vienna waltz to the evolution of a new generation("First thoughts" of August Lanner) and the complete assumption ofthe paternal heritage (Johann Strauß junior and Josef and EduardStrauß). The two works of the Reutterer/Müller duo have broughtthis tradition up to the present day (Lyrics Sinkovicz).

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra plays for HERZThe CD was recorded by the Vienna Violin Quartet (Wiener GeigenQuartett) in the abbey church of Sacre Coeur in Pressbaum. Thefour musicians, Günter Seifert – violin, Eckhard Seifert – violin andviola, Milan Setena – violin – all members of the Vienna PhilharmonicOrchestra – and Josef Pitzek – double bass, member of the RadioSymphonic Orchestra, devoted themselves to the works of JosephLanner and Johann Strauß senior. To give their music a free and easystyle, the quartet is standing during the performance – a practicethat is unfortunately not very common nowadays.

The "Plumbers’ Polka" in Russian – a surprise for HERZHERZ music is already well known outside Austria. During a studentaward celebration in June 2003 – one of the HERZ sponsoring andsupport missions at the university for construction and architecturein Dnipropetrovsk (Ukraine), Gerhard Glinzerer, HERZ managingdirector, received a surprise. Roman Gomasenko, doctoral candidateof the construction academy in Dnipropetrovsk, turned out to be atalented lyrics writer and singer and presented his own Russian ver-sion of the "Plumbers’ Polka".

René Reutterer and Werner Müller (from left to right) were askedby HERZ Armaturen to compose the "Plumbers’ Polka".

Dr. Gerhard Glinzerer, managing director of HERZ, Mag. OksanaPolianskaja, HERZ export manager for Eastern Europe and Prof.Leontij Tschesanov, construction academy Dnipropetrovsk, wereamazed to hear the Russian version of the "Plumbers’ Polka",created by Roman Gomansenko.
