Our Leaders’ Speak

Key strategic and collaborative initiatives like ASTRA are becoming an important source of industry support and capital for Start-ups who are finding their footing in core markets of the semiconductor and display industries. Today, nearly 50% of Applied Ventures LLC, investments are in whitespace areas where our technology expertise in materials engineering, commercialization and manufacturing to scale can be applied to new areas.

– Anantha Sethuraman, General Manager - Strategic Programs at Applied Materials.

We see a large talent base in India contributing to cutting-edge technologies and next-generation architectures enabling local semiconductor development. Over the past decade and a half, there has been complete transformation in the value chain for both global companies operating out of India alongside all the indigenous players. For more than 10 years, Applied Ventures has invested over $300M in more than 85 companies across 15 countries spanning equipment materials, devices and process providers from clean tech to medical companies - some of which resulted in IPOs or acquisitions.

– Mehdi Vaez-Iravani,Corporate Chief Technology Officer (Imaging and Metrology) at Applied Materials, Inc.

India ranks 5th in global GDP with one of the fastest growth rates. It has a very vibrant and growing startup culture for both entrepreneurs and VCs. I find it fascinating that most of these startups are focused on solving India specific problems in healthcare, transportation and energy. They are developing unique solutions that work in the Indian context that others are unable to tap, and address and I believe that there is tremendous potential for Applied Materials in India and working closely with some of the best entrepreneurs in the country could help us unlock the country’s market potential.

– Sanjay Sharma, Vice President and General manager, Marketing and Bus Development, at Applied Materials.Inc.
